What a race! The Three Peaks delivers thrills, and new winners

We’re still unpacking from a great weekend of spectating and marshalling the Three Peaks race this weekend gone. Although the Saturday night was cold, the day of the race dawned clear and bright, bringing short sleeve temperatures to a race that normally has Mountain Rescue out in their down onesies. The conditions were firm under wheel, even dusty in places, but that didn’t make it necessarily easier, just faster and more brutal. In a true changing of the guard, an on-form Paul Oldham caught and then swapped places a few times with eleven-time winner Rob Jebb to take the win, despite a puncture and a crash that allowed Jebb to briefly regain the lead, but it was Oldham that prevailed. Nick Craig, who first won at the beginning of the 1990s came third. In the women’s race, it was Jules Toone who beat last year’s winner, Verity Appleyard for the win. Another veteran ex-winner, Isla Rowntree came in third.

  1. Didn’t Dan Treby take the single speed record last year with 3hrs 37 mins ? ( Admittedly Dan doesn’t quite have the same Epic beard going on, so is a little more aerodynamic )

  3. Dan indeed took the single speed record last year. Shame he didn’t compete this year. The couple in the “not all racers are at the pointy end” are the daughter and son-in-law of 3 peaks legend John Dowell who cycled thw whole way round with john this year. Finally, you’ve got a typo in the women’s winners name! It’s Toone (with an e).
