Ghost Ship.

90 minutes of total bumgravy.

'I know, let's make a rip off of The Shining, on a cruise liner!'.
Let's not, eh?

Good points:
One scene at the beginning. Just the one mind.

Bad points:
Absolutely everything else.

It makes Supergirl look like the Godfather.

Bah........

Meet Joe Black.
Thought I was in with Shoz when I went to the cinema with her to see it.
Turned into an experience neither of us could ever speak of again; purely because of the film.
Nothing is as awful.

Damn, I was pretty certain Grease was the worst ever movie, it's even worse than the Star Wars movies. But just the title of that movie and now I'm not so sure.

Don’t know if it counts but I was roped by my 8 year old into taking her to see “Cats and Dogs 3” this afternoon.

That’s just an entirely new level. It makes Open Water look like the first Jaws.

Oh and Get Out is a great film.

Apparently "The Room" is the worst film ever. So bad they made a movie about it "The Distaster Artist". Haven't watch either. I've been enthusiastically told I have to watch the first because it's soooo bad. Doesn't really sell it to me!

88 Minutes starring Al Pacino.

It was filmed in 2004 but never finished, when the studio got into trouble they scraped up whatever was on the cutting room floor and pushed it out to an unsuspecting audience in 2007.

Bad many of the suggestions so far maybe at least most of them have pretty decent filmography and production values.Just tune in to the Horror channel any day and see ridiculous stories, terrible acting, worse scripts, schoolboy photography and the worst "special effects" ever.

Ladies and gents, I give you "Faces in the Crowd":

"A horror-thriller centered on a woman living with "face-blindness" after surviving a serial killer's attack. As she lives with her condition, one in which facial features change each time she loses sight of them, the killer closes in."

Utter bilge

... is the right answer, and it's so bad that you beat me to citing a fairly obscure film here.

Apparently “The Room” is the worst film ever.

I'm aware of this but I've not watched it yet. I'm halfway through reading an introspective on it independently of this thread.

Highlander 2 blows goats

Highlander 2 was a troubled film and this is a complex answer, it's now midnight so I'll come back to this tomorrow.

As I recall that was an accolade frequently given to Showgirls, a film I managed about 10 minutes of

Problem is that most people don't watch truly awful films, so if you ask someone, they will usually list something mediocre rather than truly awful. I went through the Wikipedia list of worst films to check whether I'd actually seen any, I've only seen Reefer Madness, which is hilariously silly.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_considered_the_worst

However, Bat Pussy sounds intriguing.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bat_Pussy

The largest area of criticism was placed on Bat Pussy's sex scenes, which have been heavily derided for their uniquely unappealing and unerotic qualities, as well as Buddy's visible impotence.[6][17] Multiple reviewers have labeled Bat Pussy "anti-porn" for its "unarousing" depiction of sex and nudity. Brad Jones of The Cinema Snob called it both "anti-porn" and "anti-sexy", while AV Maniacs not only agreed with the "anti-porn" title but also contested its categorization as pornography, as "there is no discernible '****ing' in it" and it "completely and utterly fails to elicit even the minutest amount of arousal in its viewers"

But, my award goes to United Passions on the grounds that it's not even a heroic failure, just an utterly cynical attempt at propaganda by people who should have known better. With a budget in the $25 million region, it grossed $319 on its opening day.

I think some people are struggling with the concept of “worst film ever”.

Maybe the thread should be ‘The Film I dislike the most’, because as far as I know there aren’t any film critics on here, although happy to be corrected. Just because you or I dislike a film doesn’t make it the worst film ever. (The obvious exception to that is The Manitou, see thread above) 😉

"The Ghost".

All the more notable for being a Roman Polanski film. Whatever you think of the 5-foot Pole you wouldn't touch with a 10-foot pole, he's directed some excellent movies.

This one stars Ewan McGregor as a ghost writer, hired to do the autobiography of an unpopular former Prime Minister (played by Pierce Brosnan, literally doing a bad Tony Blair impression).

The dialogue will make you cringe your own skin off. The audience, watching what is supposed to be a thriller were pissing themselves laughing throughout. The plot makes about as much sense as a one-inch hospital. Ewan McGregor wanders through the whole thing looking like he's suffered a head injury and has to work out what's happening in every scene.

It's almost so bad, it's good, but, regrettably, not quite.

I think some people are struggling with the concept of “worst film ever”.

Yep. Although I think it's extremely good, I can understand people not being into Bladerunner, for example. It's well, made with a very good cast, and the plot makes sense. It's just that many people aren't into that genre of film. I personally think Saving Private Ryan is overrated, the assault on the beach was generally excellent but the rest of it was cliched and predictable. It's not terrible though, just a bit predictable. Truly horrible films (Reefer Madness, for example) are just terrible in every way - ridiculous script, crap acting, nonsensical concept.

Edit. I just remembered that I once rented Who Is Harry Kellerman and Why Is He Saying Those Terrible Things About Me? because it had Dustin Hoffman in it so I assumed it would be a safe bet. My god, WTF were they thinking? Pretty sure that's the worst film I've seen by people who should be able to make a good film.

I'm expecting revelations about the goats...

Seriously, troubled or not the end product was pish.

As for whoever suggested Troll Hunter, I thought it was great fun.

Watty is right though, lots of people suggesting films they didn't like or just trying to get a rise out of others by suggesting things like Star Wars or 1917.

I reckon if you’ve actually watched the whole film, you can’t say its the worst of anything. If it’s that bad you either wouldn’t watch it at all (Mrs Brown’s Boys movie)(because you just know its utter crap ) or you wouldn’t make it past the first hour - for me that’s Highlander (1), but I know people like the film, so it’s obviously not the worst ever... or Cake, with Jennifer Anniston, which would be near the top on the list of shite.
I offer no comment on idiotic or trolling suggestions, except The Greasy Strangler, which is awesome. whoever suggested it is clearly a Bullshit Artist!

I mostly agree, but then you get nonsense like Harry Kellerman which looks promising until you get to near the end and you realize that it's just pretentious nonsense dressed up as art. Instead of all the bits being individually awful, it's the totality of the thing that is awful. Quite an achievement, really.

Bruce Willis has been responsible for around 5 hours of my life being wasted, herself loves his oeuvre.

Item 1: Armageddon

Item 2: G.I. Joe

Both piles of steaming ordure.

Anyone who goes and sees Mrs Brown in a cinema loses all ability to comment on others film choices (either that or you were on a sure thing). You paid money to see that after so many TV appearances? (A one TV series programme at best).

trying to get a rise out of others by suggesting things like Star Wars or 1917.

Not really.

Although obviously not the "worst film ever" it is IMO, the worst film that has had so much critical acclaim thrust upon it. It presents itself as a historical drama, however, the story at it's core, is complete and utter nonsense. It just does not accurately reflect WW1 military practice at all.

Shit Sci-Fi/fantsy films, TV series like Battleship and Van Helsing I actually enjoy. Someone said above about the Horror channel which seems to have loads of really crappy knock of versions that looked like they were filmed, edited, and CGI from on an iphone that just makes you think why even do it.

Not quite.

It's because the storyline is absolute horseshit!

I don't mean in a "Saving Private Ryan - there were no Tiger Tanks in Normandy until later" kind of way or a "Fury - They would of just called in an airstrike on the SS Division", it's the worse than that.

Why are people listing AAA movies? Even the shit ones have great effects, acting, cinematography or something else that saves them.

Real crap films are a whole different level.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CkNB0w1fYKk

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=e25D4XJ8AKM

I think the closest films with an actual budget get to being truly bad are Adam Sandler’s Netflix films. He’s actually turned his career in to that scene from South Park.

Accepting the points above, then ignoring them - any Terminator film after T2

We watched Dark Fate last night and despite it looking and sounding great, the underlying message has been milked to death.

How many times can time be re-written and all the lines from the first movie be used.

Clearly loads but I wonder if they could have done something different with the Terminator franchise as an evolution.

Chuck Norris movies (at least the ones I've seen) aren't terrible movies, they're B-movies. They're entertaining enough if you're into that sort of mindless action stuff, they're not meant to compete with Kubrick etc.
