Right up there with the most boring topics I've posted, but bear with me.
I'm fed up with buying cheap mounts on Amazon and the like that fall apart and/or stop holding.
Can someone suggest one that will last?
Thanks.
Depends on the dash. I have a magnetic disc stuck to my dash, and a metal rectangle fitted in my phone case. Never come unstuck.
We bought a relatively fancy I-Bolt one on the strength of good reviews a few years ago, but the microUSB leads and sub-connectors were a bit pointless and destined for the bin one phone swap later and the windscreen suction mount eventually broke at an entirely predictable point.
Got this to replace it at a third of the cost. Everything you need and nothing you don't.

Have a look at Brodit if you want the best imho.
I've used them for years and they are great for secure mounting, ease of use and non destructive install.
Not cheap but, they are very good.
brodit are my goto for mounts - they have a custom mount per car that fits the dash perfectly.
My wife and I have different phones to then use a magnet like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/YOSH-Magnetic-Universal-refrigerator-Cellphone/dp/B07DPHQQDD/ref=sr_1_11?crid=3PXFQHP20B15Z&keywords=Dash+Phone+Mount+magnet&qid=1693314036&sprefix=dash+phone+mount+magnet%2Caps%2C108&sr=8-11
attached to the brodit mount and we can just place the phone against it and its rock solid, no faffing around with pulling one side of a spring away whilst placing the phone in, etc.
if you've got an iphone its worth looking at magsafe, as it charges whilst holding it.
If it’s an iPhone, ESR halo-lock with MagSafe was a game-changer for me! Just launch the phone in its general direction, it stays in place AND charges. 😀 other phones, no idea 🤷♂️
We have PopSocket things on the backs of our phones, have greatly reduced the number of fumbling drops. In the cars we have these simple holders, the phone won’t be coming out of these short of rolling the car, very effective.
quadlock magsafe charger.
+ whatever for Brodit
Another brodit user, bought the wireless charging version which is silly expensive but worth it if you use your phone for navigation.

Brodit +1 with a magnet.
5 of us use one car and can just whack any phone on and go. I can think of it falling off once in about 8 years - and the mount is 8 years old....
I have an apps2car magnetic one off Amazon, I'd tried others that mount on the dash but they always got in the way of the radio or heater etc. I now just have a window mounted one in the bottom right hand corner of my windscreen with a magnetic mount. My phone just has a thin metal disc stuck to the back. My phone has never fallen off and it's located away from anything else but still close enough to my eye line.
I have one of these. It's been bob on if you need an air vent one (and I've had a few crappy ones).
We now use this wireless charger from Amazon in both the car and the van:
We only use the vent attachment and it’s been brilliant 🙂
Someone has got to say it, so it might as well be me.
What phone mount for use in a car
The glovebox.
If you have an older car with redundant CD player you can use a magnetic mount that slots into the CD. Like this from Amazon
Works a treat. I stick the supplied magnetic disc to the back of the phone then put phone back into its case.

That's what I've got. No complaints. Put one in wife's car too, no complaints from her either.
I’ve used Volport magnetic from Amazon in the past always worked very well
Quad lock, car, bikes and tripod 😃
just make sure you hear the click when connecting.
I use BluTac which keeps my phone in the centre of the dash, perfect for satnav duties and a Bluetooth FM transmitter for hands free calls.
Had a Brodit mount in my car for 10 years now and it's been absolutely rock solid. Luckily all my phones with cases have fitted the original mount I bought back then (it's adjustable for width) as that part was £50 but the actual bracket that sticks to the air vent surround was £11 and hasn't moved a mm in all that time.
Stop it and use Android Auto or whatever the Apple equivalent is. What are you mounting anything for?
Or Brodit as everyone else said.
How much is a decent aftermarket android auto thing with the necessary fittings??

Sony stuff is around £300 including mounts. Much better, but only an option if you've a replaceable headunit. Otherwise you're stuck with whatever came with the car
I've got quadlock with wireless charging on my motorbike and in the car, it's a great system, just mount the phone and go. But my windscreen mount in the car keeps randomly falling off, not even because of the weight of the phone, just randomly like I'll go out to the car in the morning and it's sat limp and sad on the dashboard. Anyone else have this issue?
the quadlock vent mount is really solid.
If you've got air vents which are compatible, these are excellent
