I've always fancied having a go at short track speed skating.

I can sort of skate. I bet it is a right laugh until you get the hang of it.

I've also wanted to try cycle speedway. There is a track near Bury. One day I'll give it a go.

Does Takeshi’s Castle count as a sporting event?

As an Amateur I tried to qualify for the British Open Golf Championship in 1978, missed it by one shot.

Most any motor sport.
Besides occasional karting it’s beyond my budget / what I’m willing to give up to try it.

Had a brief taster session at kite surfing and loved to have followed up, with maybe a complete week.

I would like to ride a fast sports bike on a track, I sold my bike about 10 years ago but a wiz round a track would be great.

Downhill skiing at Wengen, Kitzbuhel and Garmisch - I have never skied - what could possibly go wrong???
Wimbledon Final on Centre Court
Opening the bowling at Lords, Adelaide, Antigua, Newlands and Wanderers. Oh, and New Road Worcester for Worcester 😁
Playing cornerback against Tom Brady, and obviously sacking him on a corner blitz... Not that I've ever dreamt about it 😂
Alpe d'Huez and Mont Ventoux

I'd love to have a go at long track skating but no tracks exist in the UK.

I'd like to try some car racing but I've done a few track days and I definitely don't have the balls to do well at motor racing

Baja 1000, in a trophy truck. I'd probably die. Or Bathurst in a V8 Supercar.

At a slightly more attainable level, the 2CV 24hr.

I don't know about event, but I'd love to have opened the batting at Lords. Only on a proper day though, walk through the Long Room, out through the members, the gatekeeper swinging open the gate for me...... and then walking back 2 hours later for lunch on 60-odd, on the way to a well deserved chanceless hundred.

I have dreamt of this but in my dream I have no idea what the game is (presume because of the crowd it's a Test Match, but can't tell you who against)

We, a bunch of polo players turned up to a speedway race. With similar rules around racings's'rubbing as polo it was ace fun.

But my back was absolutely gubbed the day after, you wrench on the bars like nothing else I've done.

Great fun.

Biathlon. I loved cross-country skiing growing up, and I was a really good shooter. But I never got to combine them, and the challenge of trying to shoot straight while your heart is beating at 180 bpm is one I would relish!

Bobsleigh. But with someone competent driving of course.

Ski DH, but I've been on the courses as a holiday skier and they're frighteningly steep to be straight lining down.

I think more I'd prefer the ski equivalent of Rampage, the one that tours classic alpine locations. Forget what it's called. Still nuts, no imagining I could ever make it down in one piece

I’ll report back on this next Saturday- currently in Lillehammer with a slot booked in a “taxi Bob” driven by a professional on the Olympic run here.

I’d love to be fit enough to have a decent go at:

HT550
Tour Divide
GB Divide
Jenn Ride (Lakes edition)
3 Peaks CX

Long track speed skating - I used to ice skate as a kid and have done some inline speed skating, but doing 50mph+ on ice must be awesome. I’d probably hook the toe of my skate as I went around the first bend and end up in the airbags 😂

Downhill skiing is mighty scarey when you see the distances they clear off the jumps - we used to rattle our way down some pistes at high speed and some of the compressions would knock the wind out if you weren’t ready.

We, mainly Mrs Kilo, had a go on the range at Canmore when we were in BC a few years ago, with a Canadian team member coaching. Just emailed in and booked a session. He got her doing a bit of running then trying to shoot, it’s really difficult!

Le Mans. That'd be incredible.

Or any F1 race. Assuming we're being blessed with enough skill so as not to make an utter tit of ourselves...

Paris Dakar & Peeking Paris (in a Bentley) both these require a big lottery win which is the first hurdle.
Inferno in Murren, I filled out the entry form but got cold feet and didn’t enter. Still need to grow a pair and get it done before I’m too old and decrepit!

Tour Divide
Transcontinental

(I'm never going to be fit enough or have time but I like the idea)

Base jumping or wingsuit flying, not sure if they count as "events"

the Eddie Aikau big wave invitational

Definitely Motorsport, hopefully without the fear of costs, that's a big factor.
I used to visit the Nurburg ring a bit and was well aware of the costs involved if things went wrong.
On one visit I span on a fairly fast corner. It felt like I was on the waltzer and span a bazzilion times (probably just once). I somehow missed everything and ended up the right way round on the grass, parallel to the hugely expensive Armco, my wallet crapped itself and I never went back.

Group B Rallying back in the day

Re bobsleigh above, you don’t need to drive them at all they will get down by themselves. A good driver will just get you down quicker

F1. I did a bit of Formula Ford and had a test in an F3 car with a couple of bonus laps in an F3000.

Sadly the sponsorship fell through and I never raced either. Maybe in a different life...

I rode club motorcycle trials for about 15 years but alas never reckoned I was good enough to finish the Scott Trial or the SSDT.
Wish I’d given both a go though.

Has no one said MTB yet? Or are you all claiming you actually ride bikes? 😉

(TourDivide etc doesn’t count)

I would love to have done motorcycle trials riding when I was younger. Used to regularly go to watch them with my Dad but have never had the chance to ride a trials bike. Otherwise would love to have a go at rally driving.

Top Fuel drag racing. Bonkers, totally bonkers.

Might be a odd one for a mountain bike forum but I'd love to be able to DH properly and then do a proper DH race. I'm pretty crap all round on a mountain bike.

Speed skating is a good shout. Then I could be like that Aussie bloke at the winter Olympics a few years ago. 20m behind the pack with half a lap to go...

Actually that would also neatly fall into a sporting event I'd like to have been at.

Mine are all quite tame and achievable compared to these, my main blocker is having 3 young kids and therefore no time to do anything at all, ever.

I'd like to give lawn bowls a go with a couple of pints on a sunny day. There is a club near me that does taster sessions at 2pm once a week and I almost made it there once while on a 6-2 early shift in the office then moved roles and now tend to work 8-6 everyday and never got round to it. Maybe I'll resolve to get there in the summer.

Curling, everytime the winter Olympics come round I think to myself I should try that but never have.

Then is it the mongol rally or the gumball rally, one of those is on the list.

Then my pipedream is a PCT thru hike, if I can retire before my body gives up I'll try it then

Enjoy it!! I did a couple of runs down the track in Latvia. The first one was slowish and was what I'd expected really, I could work out what was happening and where we were going etc although it seemed bloomin fast. The second run was at full speed and after the second corner I didn't know what was going on, it was just ice then sky flashing past my eyes and incredible G forces, how then can steer at those speeds I don't know. At the bottom I couldn't stand up and had to be lifted out of the bob, they had the technique well practised so I think that was a typical reaction. A couple of friends couldn't lift their heads off the pillow when they woke up the next day, such was the G force on their necks.........
