Don't think it's been done for a while so how about an end of 2020 review of 'Threads of the Year'

"Most informative and useful"
"Genuine LOLs"
"Whoa - wasn't expecting that" (JL BigG turning up?)
"Didn't go where the OP thought it would" (richkids?)

also perhaps a

Lifetime Achievement Award - Best Thread of all Time (watching your thread disappear?)

Suggest your own categories too but given it's Christmas let's keep it light-hearted - and tbh I'm a bit hit and miss here so it's a cheating way to find out what good threads I've missed

You wish to pin the ephemeral butterflies of STW to the cork of posterity? Shame on you.

Or the slipper/top hat combo one.

Yeah..those...

My timeframe control is screwed up. Was the "Emailing the CEO" thread this year, or just that vague "before right now" timeframe?

Wasn’t it Ling, or was that last year?

Ling and ceo are both more than a year.

On a side note i find it weird no dates on posts. I wanted to suggest magnetodogs passing for the single track calendar.

The "richkids of pinkbike" has to be a contender for best OP.

Ling was three years ago now. Haven’t there been a couple of good neighbours threads this year? Can’t be arsed looking though.

The US election thread has been a good one. It’s got humour, disbelief, conspiracy and some facts and stuff too.

Was there not a trilogy of

Watch me build a treehouse
My neighbours don't like our tree
Our lazy neighbour is raking leaves onto the street.

?

Most informative and useful - Coronavirus Discussion thread; principally because of the contributions by TiRed and the others directly involved in research and treatment.

I'm voting that a conglomeration of the weekend rides or lockdown adventures threads should win.

Riding bikes ftw. Particularly this year.

The squirrel trap thread was a classic. Also enjoyed the treacherous leaves thread. Some poor fella couldn’t park on his drive because of them. Worst B movie ever

Funniest single comment of the year was the one in the thread about supermarkets and Muslim employees. Someone posted (apologies if this isn't 100% accurate) "Typical Tesco, only thinking about the prophets".

Whoever you are, you made me genuinely laugh out loud.

“Typical Tesco, only thinking about the prophets”.

There should be a one liner of the year.

Perchy would win, I just don't know which one liner though.

Another vote for The Last Thing You Made.

I might've oversold it (ha) but I was thinking of the John Lewis pricematch thread where the chap that seems to run all of JL customer service turned up to make sure all was well

https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/john-lewis-no-longer-price-matching/

also there was a Ling retiring thread this year which I thought was very cheering

Perchy's best lines this year would be good - am off for a search

(and personal LOL at dezb - ta!)

Please put links to the threads you're suggesting f you have them, save me fruitlessly using the forum search then getting annoyed with myself for even trying!!

Agree with "What's the last thing you made" - I love that thread.

Not read the Richkids of pinkbike until today - quality.

Oh, do we get a repeat as the lease must be due for renewal?

The coronavirus thread has been amazing. I don't need to read the news or listen to rubbish spouted by idots with their own take on C19. There are people on there (TiRed, batfink, Graham and a few others) who really know their stuff.

As for STW contributor of the year for me it is TiRed.
He's had C19 and been unable to ride his bike for months. He has patiently answered questions from laypeople regarding c19 and other coronavirus types, just a all round good egg and STWer boffin.

The guitar, coronavirus and Brexit threads have been the ones I've clicked first when logging in here. The Ling sells up and goes biking thread was an inspirational read. A couple of the relationship threads provided food for thought. The petrol head threads reminded me there is no hope for the planet, as did the central heating threads.

The main things "trending" on STW in 2020: frustration, irritation and a sense of injustice.

Posters with the most accurate crystal balls, Binners and TJ.

I think in Binners' case that's a medical condition related to over-consumption of Gregg's sausage rolls. Bit like kidney stones just more northern.

As noted above the Rude thread has a lot of potential, with special mention to the OP of it still coming back to chip in and other responders being utterly oblivious to how serious (or not) the OP is taking it.

The Corona thread is incredible. I'd like to think that a thread like that will be studied 100 years from now as a snapshot of what it was like to live through the pandemic in "real time."

I genuinely think that thread might have even saved a life or two (or at least saved a few from long Covid) by modifying/verifying a few thought processes/behaviours amongst its readers (and hence their family and friends too). That's pretty humbling but obviously unverifiable. STW at its best.

Binners predictions on the Brexit thread have been good too. I think he said years ago, "just expect the worst possible outcome at every juncture" (i paraphrase) and that's what will happen. Bloody spot on!

"Last thing you made" is great to read but has made me realise how untalented I am.😃

Maybe not in the last year but the thread started by the guy who claimed his wife was an artist and posted some of her work only to be told that she had obviously traced it from a photo was cracking reading.

Typical British behaviour - fawning over TiRed just because he's got an OBE. 😉

Always amazes me how a genuine expert pops up on threads about just about anything, and he (and a few others on there) are the perfect example of that.

Well I'd like to promote tired for his good work this year.

Let's mention Lockdown Rave for bringing back the good times in the shit times

And at some point we need to appreciate the tour de France daily.

And good old edl

Not quite all of it. The stores aren't my remit, but if you call, write, email, webchat or message into the frontline teams you'll be handled by one of the teams I have the pleasure of being responsible for.

I'm very glad that doing the right thing got me a mention in "thread of the year"
