Yesterday I was in shorts and flip flops with all the doors open.
I'm officially not happy.

Long trousers are consigned to when I'm in training delivery in-person only. Shorts for at least 10-11 months of the year, so I reckon you guys have gone a tad early 😉

I've been in jeans for the past week - but only because I just got a new pair and they actually fit for once (my wife thinks it's hilarious and only taken 40 years) so I've been enjoying the novelty!

Still in shorts, at least until October. Disappointed if I'm forced into an earlier trouser.

Flip flops still to hand but only for spider splatting duties as they're due any day and I won't be allowed to catch and release. Mrs TM operates a zero tolerance policy and I'm more scared of her than them.

Hell no, still shorts here in the Midlands, can't see jeans coming out for at least another 2 or 3 weeks.
Flip-flops are on borrowed time mind you.

I put socks on yesterday. And not because I was putting on shoes!

Currently sat in shorts and a hoody, with slightly chilly feet.

No long trousers yet for me here down south, unless joggie bottoms count when lounging in evening.

Bloody cold on the commute home in shorts and t-shirt this afternoon though, bastard cold northerly wind.

I don't get the whole thing about preferring to wear shorts. Why? Jeans are very comfortable IMO.

Or are people just sad that the heatwave's over? Which does make sense

I don’t get the whole thing about preferring to wear shorts. Why?

When I put on proper shoes and jeans this morning it was like my body couldn't breathe.

ah, now 'proper shoes' is a different matter entirely! Weddings and funerals only, IMO. And job interviews.

It's admitting that summer is over.... I hate the winter.

(I'm currently in shorts on the lounger on the balcony of our place by the beach.
Lovely and sunny .... Sheltered from the fairly brisk northerly that's blowing!)

Simply what I find comfortable, like you with your jeans. I don't find jeans uncomfortable I just prefer shorts. Oh, and I don't miss the heatwave at all, as I don't do well in the hot 😓

Being a sedentary desk worker (with low muscle mass due to a genetic condition and low-ish fat due to cycling) I'm freezing at anything below 19c. So jeans this week and resisting putting heating on 🥴

Because of drugs for above im a sweaty mess above 23c. Last week was one of two each year where comfort levels were acceptable. Count yourselves lucky! 😂

There is no way a pair of jeans is more comfortable than the pair of baggy running shorts I'm currently wearing, no way in the world.
When the time comes I'm move to joggers for home based wear and the jeans will come on when I have to leave the house.

Longs more than not here. Went for a walk this weekend and with friends from the south up I caved and wore shorts. 17, yes seventeen, ticks needing plucking from my legs that evening.

Mind you, there is more than a nip in the air here this weekend. It was 14 degrees in both the bedroom and the living room when I got up this morning. I might have to consider the H word soon.

Jeans went on for the first time in months this morning. Now it's warmed up (a tropical 15 degrees outside, apparently) I'm back in shorts.

The clocks. When they do that thing with changing the time is when I'm allowed longs*. Sacrilege to cave mid September - it's still the middle of summer!

Somewhat perturbed here that my birkenstocks are overdue their annual service. Their tread is a long way off an MOT pass.

*I am in Devon though

Birkenstock slippers FTW. I like 3/4 length pedal pushers all year round, but do go shorts too. I am, however in new skinny jeans today to walk the dog this evening. Down to 23C in the loft office today though.

THE milestone was the padded Barbour went on last night. Over a T shirt not something warmer, so still time.

Long trousers and socks with the Birkenstocks here (no, I don’t care).

More worryingly is that the indoor thermostat is 2 degrees from turning the heating on.

Er... don't let the thermostat tell you it's not still September... get that bugger turned off... or in frost protection mode.

I live in jeans apart from actually hot days.

My better half keeps suggesting that I put on my lounge pants, which I believe are basically pyjamas.

And then a dressing gown.

This is for evenings at home, of course.

I much prefer denim and a hoodie, I find them far more comfortable.

Think that was an army study comparing people wearing warm clothes and no hat to people wearing warm clothes and a hat.

If you're togged up warm in a cold place but got your head uncovered, of course you're going to lose a lot of heat from the bit that's not covered.

Scientific answers don't teach you very much unless you know what the question was!

Shorts and hat here too, my male pattern baldness isn’t a good pattern so I’m shaved on top and it’s chilly in here.

I did do a trial run of the heating this morning as I’d spotted the boiler pressure was down near zero when I was sorting the recycling next to it. Rads all bled and a squirt of Fernox for when we do fire it up properly.

Seeing as me & Mrs Efg will be in Southern Spain.

It is a little chilly, my nice glass of Kangaroo Merlot is now actually chilled as I'm outside basking in the warmth of my fire pit (do not fret it's 100% environmentaly friendly, I'm burning recycled mountain bike trail, rotten boardwalk).

October 1st is first day of long trousers #inthenorth 😀

Also too early. By north I take it you mean Birmingham?

Well, Brum’s about eighty miles north of where I am, so yeah. Got shorts on, will keep wearing shorts as far into October as possible, and as I got sunburned on holiday in South Devon a few years back during the first week of October, I think I’m well justified.
I wore a hoodie over my tee shirt to the pub tonight, with a quilted US Army parka liner over that, and a thin wool beenie, and was perfectly comfy.

Shorts and a hat?!?!?

Yeah, I’ve got no hair to speak of, with a cool wind a thin beenie makes a big difference. I don’t expect people who have hair to understand.
I see people wearing hoodies with the hoods up, and puffa-style jackets in mid-summer - now that’s bloody weird!

I only need to wear shorts if it is hitting 25+ outside. Other than that it is long trousers. Just like I don't walk around in a T shirt when it is 10 degrees outside.

I don't suffer from having hot legs so not really sure why shorts are necessary unless it is very hot where minimal clothing and a bit of air flow makes sense.
