Anyone else watching it?
Watched the first episode - not entirely sure about it tbh
a quiet gem
What's this?
its very funny, that is what it is.
Watched the first episode - [strike]not entirely sure about it tbh[/strike] and then cancelled the previously setup series link
I'm with JoB.
a quiet gem
Agreed. Subtle, clever, delightful comedy. Very well played so far.
Great so far.
I'm a bit in love with McKenzie Crook's wife in it.
Yeah enjoying it a lot, tieing in nicely with my part time archaeology studies 😉
just caught up with the first two episodes, very funny. Toby Jones is brilliant.
Watched the first two episodes last night. Really enjoyed it. Definitely be back for more ...
...a quite gem indeed.
Missed ep1, watched ep2.
Yes, quiet gem indeed. Series link set.
Filmed in and around Rendlesham/Tunstall. Pub scenes in the Kings Head at Orford, some of our holiday makers from this year had a great time on set for a free meal.
Episode 2 was better than 1 IMHO
Loved the Simon and Garfunkel scenes
I liked the Red Arrows bit.
Just reminded me to watch it, got it on series link. University Challenge and buttons, giggling already.
Is that his real wife?
I thought he looked utterly uncomfortable with his screen wife. Very unconvincing...
As a programme, it's just a little bit painfully middle of the road I feel.
Not hurting anyone though... 🙂
Just watched it on iplayer. Thought it was beautifully done! Great script, great acting - couldn't ask for more.
Saw the first episode. Brill, have to watch the rest on catch-up when I'm back home.
I'm a bit in love with McKenzie Crook's wife in it.
That's Diana Riggs daughter.
It's fantastic. Sublime even.
Is that his real wife?
No. She's mine.
You're my wife now, [s]Dave[/s] Debbie 😀
I tried watching the first episode but I was very mleh about it.
Tell you what I have loved has been the new Aussie political drama The Code. Bloody ace! 2x episodes on iPlayer now. Have to wait a week for the next two 🙁
Missed the beginning of the Code, so ended up not watching it.
Tonight 9pm Sky Atlantic - "Gomorrah". Now, that's series worth watching. Can't be many left now and i'll be gutted when it stops.
Great English comedy I reckon.
I tried watching the first episode but I was very mleh about it.
Me too - but watch episode 2, it gets better
It's very well done, superbly acted and directed, maybe do with a few more laughs. I love the mad farmer.
watched it both episodes of the Detectorists last night... thought it was good. sublime kinda sums it up. you watch it in quiet and it's only after you smile. compelling in an odd way.
and yes, very british comedy... self deprecating.
Saw the last episode and will be watching the next.
Jim fixed it for me 🙂
Just started watching. Very good. The Howard Carter quote/joke must be one of the most esoteric in in a sit com.
Sorry, but I was rolling at that lemonade scene, I've done that before 😀
An excellent episode ................................................. over
Enjoying the series, quietly funny. Thought I recognised 'Becky' and googled her to see she was Diana Rigg's daughter as mentioned above. Ms Rigg was my first tv crush when she was in The Avengers.
Watched episode 2 and didn't find it funny, a couple of smirks yes but not LOL funny
Must be just me.
Love it, very very subtle. Shop & externals were done in my neck of he woods - Framlingham.
It's like Roger and Val Have Just Got In that Dawn French did - it's about the situation and the characters not belly laughs.
I think it's really well done.
Is Sophie a traitor?
Did Tony explode?
What is in The Paddock (other than the UXB, that is now an XB)?
Is Sophie a traitor?
She is the adopted child of the Simon & Garfunkel duo 🙂
Did Tony explode?
The TV guide for Thursday has a few [s]hints[/s] spoilers 😉
early doors was ace
10pm BBC4
Great tomorrows viewing sorted
Detorists catch up
The Beeb are making (Detectorists) and buying (the Code) some good stuff just lately. The Detectorists does have the same slow-burning feel as Early Doors, but that is some show to live up to, possibly my favourite show ever! Old Tommy's new job has me in fits every time
That is a wonderful piece of comedy. Still go back to early doors episodes even though i've watched them many times. The Detectorists is ok but doesn't bare comparison
Indeed a quiet gem. Has me lolling.
Pearce Quigley is a scene-tealer for me (beardy bespectacled guy in the club).
Without sounding poncey I saw his Bottom in The Globe's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream last year. Ab-so-lute-ly outstanding. It was a superb production and he was the best thing in it.
Lame. Turned it off after 10 minutes, not having managed a single laugh.
(Ep 3 SPOILER)
The Jim'll Fix It badge! Brilliant.
Oh Becky *sigh*
Pearce Quigley is a scene-tealer for me.
Me too!
It is quietly brilliant, I like everything about it.
Oh Becky *sigh*
I saw her first, OK?
Yeah, but you're ugly 😀
Quigley was also brilliant in Rev (another "quiet gem") enjoyed the detectorists last night, can't wait to see more of Simon and Garfunkel
Pearce Quigley ... I saw his Bottom
I'd rather see Becky's.
Varde......she's the one.
Plenty more to come from her..,.I hope
brilliant... just watched ep 4.
really like the soundtrack, too...
decent mix on youtube from this John Flynn fella...
That was good.
Some nice little touches( Bodybag?,nah ..Tupperware ) 🙂
Glad I stuck with it.
I'm certain a proper metal detector "DETECTORIST!" would scan again after taking out a pound coin or ringpull. Even if it spoiled the ending.
Just watched the final episode, really enjoyed every episode.
Can't quite work out why. Very subtle, mundane life in rural England - but well crafted, well performed comedy.
Looking forward to series two!
Second series coming, good job he bought the TR7 just in case.
Can't quite work out why. Very subtle, mundane life in rural England - but well crafted, well performed comedy.
Yup,it just kinda sneaked up on you.
Really enjoyed last nights finale. 'We should charge for tea and coffee'
Brilliant! 😀
Whole thing was great, well done to the BBC.
can't wait to see more of Simon and Garfunkel
See Yonderland, on Sky a couple of months back.
I loved the conversation about men and their hobbies and collections. Delivered dead-pan by Toby Jones...
"You give a man a cactus and he's got a cactus.
Give him another cactus and he's got 'a collection'
go back 2 years later and he's had to move to a bigger house to accommodate all his cacti
A woman would get to 3 cacti and think that that was probably enough"
😆 so true!
loved the pattern in the grass in the final shot. Very subtle.
Binners is right about Early Doors. A little gem.
I miss it already.
Just watched the last one.
The best thing on TV in ages.
As I mentioned before I didn't get this show but I did only stick it out for 2 episodes.
But Yonderland was great and Early Doors was fanstatic
Loved it. I think I read that there will be a 2nd series. Hope I'm right.
loved the pattern in the grass in the final shot. Very subtle.
I missed that. I'll have to rewatch it. 😀
Just caught up, that was the best of the six episodes. Toby Jones is superb, I echo the comments about the cactus collection speach. Just brilliant in every way, can't wait for series two.
Loved the crop markings, and the way the theme tune fitted at the end. "I'm waiting for you..."
Sophie surely became a heartthrob for SF nerds everywhere with her "We must be cautious" response.
I hope they only do a coupleod series, and then kill it off.. It was fantastic, I loved it, but don't really see where they can take it?
I like it ...
Thread ressurection as the first series is currently being repeated so it is on iplayer. The second series and Christmas special will follow.
It is so frustrating that it has been tucked away at 11pm at night when the bbc should be shouting from the rooftops about this series.
Thanks for the heads up. Loved the series.
Agree its hard to see where the plot can go but I don't care. It's all about characters and atmosphere.
Do you need to have seen the films?
Great news on the 2ns series!
Can't wait.
Stumbled on the reruns last week whilst watching something that had been recorded. The Mrs mussed it first tine around so need to catch her up.
