Big up all the bimblers!

Who else, like me, eschews the radness and gnar?
Who else, like me, prefers the chicken run to the 6ft drop off?
Who else, like me, enjoys a four hour lap of Cannock?
Who else, like me, rides a fatbike because they look so good going slow?
Who else, like me, takes their thermos to the trail centre?

If you answered yes to any of the above, then welcome, my friend, welcome to Bimbleton, population - slow.

just about to head out on the fat bike for a follow my nose ride, no general plan just go where the trails take me, the only time the bike will leave the ground is when i lift it over a gate

Yay!

We're bimbling this afternoon.

A radical session of cross discipline interval training has been abandoned in favour of a ride to the garden centre to laugh at the Christmas tatt.

Then JJ's for a bacon butty and home.

Like the flask idea.
Tartan?

I much prefer a ride with a little distraction thrown in.

Say a brewery, or a cheese makers.
If you can combine any of those with a beach, then that's bimblecore.

I reckon any proper bimble should easily be rideable in Crocs?

'Bimblecore'- I'll give it three weeks until either Giant or Trek latch onto that one and release a new bike/standard/wheelsize on the back of it 😆

We love a bimble up NCR 1 via Seaham prom to my OH's mam and dad's for Sunday dinner then a slow wheeze back home, bicycles (and knees) groaning and creaking under the extra weight of three stone of meat and seventeen veg!

Holy shit I hit every one of the OPs quota.

Except Cannock. Why travel that far when I have perfectly good hillocks on the south coast?

But seriously, what flask for trail riding bimbledom?.. I want the uber riding flask

There's an awful lot to be said for bimbling. Most things cycling, and more so mountain biking are aimed at having the lightest, stiffest, fastest, raddest bike and kit going.

But it's not the be all and end all. For me, whilst I enjoy going flat out, measuring my pace against others and tackling ever more technical trails, that brings with it some pressure, and it's pressure I'm often aimimg to avoid by biking, so I don't want to go flat out.

A bimble is the best thing possible for me mentally, I have pretty dark moods and spells of feeling down/conflicted/lost (I hesitate to say depression as I don't think it really is and don't want to trivialise it for genuine sufferers). Just grabbing the bike and heading out with the map and only a rough idea of where I'm going to go, is so liberating.

Long live the bimblers!

Yep a nice bimble with a backpack full of butties and pork pie for a nice sit down to admire the view. Pints at the end.

Have become a bimbleler, usually a 29" non sus, I'm sure I leave the ground on the odd occasion but others assure me that my bouncing inch or two doesn't count.

My cross bike was my favorite and a bimble specialist (in my hands, no racing here thank you!)! Thieving scroats have stopped my bimbling! Bimbling doesn't seem to work on a enduro trail masher!

I think pootling might be a step up from bimbling?

Not sure you can pootle with a takeaway hung on your bars?

I've seen pictures of the Peaks Pootles on here.
Some people actually had gloves on.
I believe they have a picnic, which is nice, but it all looks a bit hardcore to me.

Is there such a thing as hardcore bimbling? Can it still be a bimble if it's below freezing or you're being lashed with sleet, for example?

I'd guess that's the very essence of bimcore. Unlike other genres of bimbling, such as bimpacking or bimduro.

I'm a selective bimbler!

I sometimes enjoy pootling speeds (on and off road) and a relaxed approached to a ride including plenty of food and stops. This seems to be coming out more in the winter when the ground is slow and it makes sense to take it easy. Bimble is also the right approach to touring or bikepacking as you can enjoy the whole experience more.

Other times though, I am guilty of putting emphasis on speed, caring a little about strava, and 'smashing' a trail centre run or road hill climb. I will never own anything flouro though, only ever have HTs, and mainly use paper maps. I have also been on the look out for a bimblepacking flask...

Will be bimbling on Sunday morning. There will be some gnar (Southern version) so perhaps it's more of a pootle...

If it's southern gnar (low on gnar-o-meter), then it might be more of a pimble than a pootle..?

Like the look of the alpkit flask, not sure how well it fits in a normal cage though.

I'm not aware of there being any other sort of riding apart from bimbling/pootling?! Well there is that stuff they do on bikes inside once every four years but they never stop for a pint after every lap.

99.9% of the rides I have done over the last 5 years (So probably about 20 in total) have just been to various pubs

I like a pork snack as much as the next man, but an entire backpack full of pork pies and scotch eggs is a little too much if you ask me.

No wonder you're all going so slow.

I just wrap a couple of pork pies in cling film, with a "side" of pork scratchings for a quick fix of pork energy.

Who has a brewery on their local bimble? I do.

So, brewery bimble to collect half a dozen favourite IPA's, via the butchers for a scotch egg (£2.50ea but once you've tried one you know where your money went) - then back via the local castle ruins to take in the view and savour the pork goodness.
Is that the ultimate bimble?

I've accidentally rediscovered the joy of bimble since busting my shoulder back in July. Still not confident it's fixed enough to risk anything rough, I have returned to my spiritual home, Bimbledon Common.
I have added some purpose by taking on the project of identifying unrecorded or misrecorded rights of way in the county, with a view to getting them added to the definitive map. This has resulted in some first rate pootles into nooks and crannies I never knew existed.
The most radical part of today's bimble involved following the line of an old waggonway, adding an industrial heritage twist.

I have a roughly 20 mile bimble planned for tomorrow. It is mainly offroad but enough flat road sections to make the choice of bike more than a grab and go. Or to put it another way, enough to make me think about the 29er HT rather than the default fatbike.

Oh the challenges of a bimble 😆

I disagree. I think to bimble is a state of mind.

I have actually tried for years to become a bit more gnar, I've tried training courses, flash new gear, better tyres, elbow pads.
I always revert to bimbling. Less is more.
