Ok, so it's very dull from a MTB perspective, but if you're after a proper workout/explore without having to motivate yourself then Laureen's Ride is worth a go.
It's mainly road, but does link up a few nice sections of Cheshire brodleway. Repeat, there is no gnarr, so don't go expecting any.
There's a North loop and a South loop. Each about 30 km long, can obviously be combined. I thrashed round them at theweekend on my Anthem and thoroughly enjoyed it. On my Spec Enduro it would have been purgatory.
PS, the good bits are nearly all compacted mud so don't go after rain.
Just to labour the point, it's not tech MTB, it's a chance to get easy miles in and explore from home (if you live SW Manc match)
There are dozens of signposts, but loads of missing ones (especially around Rooneys' house)🙄 so take a map.

Start from the Airport Inn just to the east of the runway on the A538
Note for future generations.... This was posted during the Covid situation when you weren't encouraged to drive to trailheads, do techy sketchy MTB or meet anyone. Under these scenarios Laureen's is a pleasant trip to get some miles in.
Under normal circumstances then it's not that great.
/resurrection for any bored south Mancunians looking for some pleasant riding from home that's not as gnarrly as the Peak.
Laureen's Loop is currently frozen solid. It was muddy on Tuesday night but is now absolutely rock solid. So if you fancy an easy but pleasant ride with lots of crunchiness then get yourself out there. Even the bridleway section down to Styal mill is in great condition.... frozen muddy crenellations.
Get it now before it reverts to a swamp next week.
Ooh, will keep this in mind. I'm just north of Congleton currently.
I've been riding out to the Roman Lakes via the Mersey during this last year. I jump on at Cheadle/ Parrswood. A lot of flat miles but I can do 95% off road on a 60km loop, keeping me sane, though I haven't done it since the beginning of November.
Twistedpencil whats the route from the Mersey to Roman Lakes just out of interest?
Not sure if this will work....
Mersey to Stockport centre - ride through the centre to Vernon Park - drop down to the Goyt, follow to the Peak Forest Canal - then on to Marple, down down to the Lakes - go and climb some hills, come home.
It's sorted my head out on a number of occasions.
Doesn't work 🙁

Sounds good. You're about 11 km closer to the peak than me, which must be great. Did a few peak rides from home, varying from Roaches, Buxton, Goyt, Jacob's Ladder, Roman Lakes stuff. All between 70 and 100km, so a bit tiring to be doing too often. And at the moment (with the snow and ice) the peak is a bit spicy for my Giant Anthem. Went OTB on Charity Lane 2 weeks ago, which is definitely against the rules. Would love to take the Occam out there but no way I'm doing a ton on that beast.
Hence why I'm pushing the Laureen's option, since it is fun in the snow/ice, and not too gnarrly.
Another 22km would put me off to be fair - will tackle jacobs ladder and edale from home come the better weather 🙂
Nowt like staying local during a supposed lock down is there...............
Get off your high horse and wind your neck in - I haven't ridden this during the national lockdown, right now I'd happily slap someone around a bit for that comment. I've had a very rough day and, seriously GTF.
Bell
End.
Horse still mounted and less of the bell end ....
And be mindful of threats they often come back to remind you of how stupid you can be !
I live in South Manchester. I've rode from home out to Marple and back. Was about 42 miles. It wasn't too bad, lots of walkers to avoid on the pathways. Maybe in the summer I'll try again and maybe extend it a bit.
@stevedoc apologies I was out of order, but seriously, not now, I've watched my dad go in an ambulance this afternoon and he's now in an ITU at hospital.
I'd still slap someone who got in my face in person tonight. Thats not me normally just how I feel right now.
I still don't think every thread about riding bikes needs to be derailled by folks stating there's a national lockdown in effect. I come here not to be reminded about the shit going on at the moment. I ride bikes to help forget this shit and tight now I can't ride a bike and my dad is in a bad way. So instead of folks reprimanding folks for talking about riding bikes, which can help massively with dealing with stress, just think before posting.
Nowt like staying local during a supposed lock down is there……………
Soz but my current definition of local MTBing is "starting from my house". I think that is reasonable.YMMV
