Rather than stopping and taking my backpack off to get my phone out, I'd like a small/slim case to keep it on a shoulder strap for easier access. I don't like keeping things in my jersey or shorts pockets unless on the road as I've lost things before.

Any suggestions on a small/slim case? Only one I've seen that fits a vertical strap is an Evoc one which is massive. Its for an old Galaxy S6.

Should be able to find something cheap and suitable on Amazon.

Don't know if this is the right size, but it might do the job...

MoEx Phone Pouch with Belt Loops

EDIT: or HERE

Thanks, but it's massive. I guess most phones are big now but I tend to just carry an older smaller phone with me while riding.

Go for custom made, recycled inner tubes phone hugger from BeerBabe.

I carry my phone in one of these on the strap of my Lomo pack.

Cheers!
I.

I use the QuadLock case on my Camelbak. Fits in the pocket on the left chest strap and it’s pretty robust.

Also goes on the mount on the road or gravel bike.

Might be a bit late for you, but I looked into this recently and found a few options: MudHugger PhoneHugger, Evoc phone case (bit small for modern phones), Lowepro ProTactic Phone Pouch, Tread Lite Gear Cuben Fiber Hybrid Backpack Strap Phone Pocket.

I concluded that all of them would be too big and in the way, well even an uncased modern phone would be really. Most of them didn't seem to have much fixing to keep them in place sideways and up/down on the strap, the Cuben one looked best here as you undo the strap to slide it on.
