First order of business. Apologies for the login/logout/caching/502 issues you have all been experiencing. Yesterday at 6:45pm we were attacked with a DOS attack. That resulted in the site going very slow and people getting 502 errors for around half an hour until Tom found and blocked the IP address of the attacker.

So there's that.

Anthony and Tom are currently working on the other issues right now and one strategy I want to tell you about is that at noon today we are going to turn off our Ezoic ad system for 1 hour. There will be no ads on the site and we are hoping that with your help we will learn a great deal about how that is affecting our site UX.

On behalf of the whole tech team, we are sorry for the frustrations of using the site of late but we are doing everything we can and prioritising these issues.

Hopefully we'll have good news to report after lunch.

Why is a biking website being DDOS'ed?

Expect hackers want access to email address lists and/or credit card info. Or they're blocking access so nobody else can win the Megasack.

@thepurist And I would have got away with it too, if it wasn't for those kids!

Well I appear to be staying logged in and not getting the 'manage cookies' at every change of page so something is helping 👍

Returned to the page left open on Safari, got the cookies message and was forced to log in again.

I'm getting asked for cookies on every page, is this an unwanted side effect?

It most certainly is unwanted. After the ads turn off I think we can safely say this is related to our ad system. We are contacting Ezoic now to try and resolve this.

I had this the other day when posting on the forum. I removed a few brackets and quotation marks and it went through, no idea if that's what made a difference.

Why do any sites get DDOS’d?

Ooh, I had this a few weeks ago. The forum was objecting to something that could potentially look like a command, like (system) in parentheses or something similar. I can't remember exactly what it was now and I lost the edit window trying to pin it down.

Blank screen on iOS Safari with nothing but the search the forum text, but rocket fast on iOS Edge now. This is posted on Edge as Safari won’t load. Been fine on my MBP macOS Safari all day.

In regards to the Blank Screen on iOS safari in the forum, which iPhone device are you using?, which iOS software are you using?, and is Safari up to date ?

I currently am unable to replicate this issue, so trying to isolate all possibilities.

Thanks
Tech Team

Pictures now seem to be automatically accepted ie just paste the URL in and the pic appears.  No need to go thru multiple clicks to do so

Weird but good IMO

On iPhone 12 and also iPad Pro, both on OS 16. All up to date.

Not really  slow but posting is taking longer to process than it used to.  Everything else feels normal to me
