Scooters - the push along kind...

Eldest Skipperlet would like to buy a stunt scooter  with his pocket money but I have no idea what we should be looking for. He has had one before which we bought from Skatehut I think and although it was around £100 it was fairly rubbish, the bearings were awful and the handlebars kept twisting no matter how tight I did the bolts up where it attached to the front wheel stem, so I'm after some recommendations for something a bit less rubbish but still under £100.
He is 12 and although he has managed to "drop in" at the local skate park he is not an expert scooterist (?) by any means.

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum but I thought it was more related to bike advice than general chat...!

Thanks

We bought 'better' ones from Skatehut. We've seen kids with silly expensive ones. All seem to have crappy bearings and a single bolt through at various points which keeps loosening.

I fitted enduromax bearings and when wheels wore out I upgraded them.

Give your kid a multi tool and teach them to check the thing.

Our two were donated next door - they are still going about 10-12 years after we bought them.

I bought jnr a Mad Gear stunt scooter from Skatehut a year ago. It’s been excellent. Bearings great, really smooth.

Got it in a bundle with pads, helmet and a ramp.

I spoke to them first for advice and they were super helpful.

Mad gear seem good, we bought our kid's second hand, probably £20 average but reasonably high end chassis. New grip, wheels and grips probably £30 per scooter on discount from skatehut and our local skate park. The chassis were in good nick so rides like new now and the kids got to personalise them with the new parts. To be fair though 'expensive' one actually only needed new grips but I redid it because his sister got new bits too.

Crikey - what on earth do you get on a £500 scooter that makes it worth that amount... ? 😲

Some of the same magic that makes a pushbike frame 3,5K and up, 🙂 This is not the forum to ask questions like that.

Anyway my kids both had MGP scooters and they were pretty decent. But obviously there's a lot of rebadging of the same chassis between 'makes'

I quoted the wrong scooter above. I got this MGP MGX and it’s been excellent.

😂

That MGP MGX looks decent enough - thanks all.
