As above, somthing to mount 2 bikes, had a quick Google but didn't realise how much the prices vary. Hoping to spend no more than £300

I was looking at this the other week for a potential car purchase. No idea what’s good but Halfords seemed to have big discounts.

I've bought Buzzrack and Atera from these guys in the past. Excellent customer service, great prices and lots of choice.

No recommendation from me but make sure you pay attention to:

Width between bikes
Max wheelbase length
Tilting or not

I've got one of these which is a bit crap. IF your bikes fit it and don't hang too low it is at least nice and small to store.

Probs too expensive but I'd thoroughly recommend a Yakima just click rack. Best rack I've ever bought.

The Thule one is very well made. Compared to the cheap and cheerful one from my FIL it is like day and night in terms of quality.

+1 for 2nd hand Thule, they're well made and spares availability is generally pretty good so they're a good 2nd hand option.

The Velospace is the one for long/wide/heavy bikes so look for one of those ideally.

+1, takes my large FS ebike plus another large 29er no probs. Also have 3rd bike adapter but never used it so far.

Totally agree with these. Got an Atera Strada which singularly fails on the first two points.

Atera Strada user here. Love the way it slides away from the car for boot access.

Buzzrack e scorpion 2? Just over budget, 2 bikes, folds, solid. Lots of space for long wheelbase bikes and very wide spacing between the bikes. Tilts too.

Also in the market for one as my new car has a tow bar installed. It is 13pin and most carriers I’ve seen are 7, would a simple adaptor do the trick and allow the brake lights to work?
(Based in central Scotland if anyone has a second hand one...)

EDIT
Never mind- just found the answer when looking into roofbox.co.uk

Yes - adapters available in both directions

somthing to mount 2 bikes

I’d recommend a 3 bike rack then. Just makes mounting two bikes with good clearance a little easier.

Also there will be a day when you want to take another bike.

We took 8 bikes for four riders to the Alps last summer.

I had a Thule Velospace XT 2 (bikes go in van now).

It’s well over your £300 budget but it was a great bit of kit.

Fat bikes went on it fine with space to spare between them, reasonably long 29er e-bikes fitted easily when we hired some for the day, it tilted to allow boot access and mounted in seconds.

I've got this one, used it for about 2 years.

Thule

As others have stated you get better clearance for two bikes. I've had three mountain bikes on there but it's fiddley.

I had to heat gun the wheel holders to accept the 2.8" tyres. Also watch the weight, two e-bikes are close to the limit. I normally put one in the boot and one on the rack if we're e-biking.

Used to love my old Thule Euroclassic.

No idea if it would have taken a modern long enduro bike though, I suspect it'd be a bit narrow.

Plus one to this, as someone who’s very tall with very big bikes it’s good on big wheelbases. Though I also spin the bars 180 to shorten very long bikes.

another plus one on Buzzrack e-scorpion 2 (circa £300), robust and packs away folding up to a very small footprint (circa 1ftx2ft) for storage,

i bought a thule on ebay the other year, i got it home, and it was broken, another 70 mile round trip. seller (the wife) said 'oh yes my husband said it works fine, but doesnt lock to the towbar'.
in short dont trust second hand thule sellers. ;0(

Just bought a Thule VeloSpace XT 2. Tried to get a 2nd hand one off eBay but were fetching silly money, £400 plus in addition hefty postage costs or travel to collect.

Most suppliers were in the £490 - £525 price range, but .... I managed to find a brand new one with free postage from the online Volvo Part Shop at £430.

Only difference is it has Volvo branding rather than Thule.

Took about a week to arrive - apparently a special order from Swedish. Double bonus is that is fits perfectly in a three quid Ikea DIMPA Storage bag. The Thule storage bag is £30.

I've just bought a Halford Advance 2 Bike Rack for the TurboHearse. Currently 20% off so significantly cheaper than the competition. It'll take bikes up to 30KG each so good for eebs but the max wheelbase (which is mentioned anywhere on the website) is 114cm. It was fine today with a Medium Rail and S3 Kenevo SL on the back but I'll be trying the flipped bars next time for peace of mind.

Yeah I sold mine for over £400. £430 sounds like a bargain 👍

I have this Pendle 2 bike rack and its tough, adaptable and easy to use.
The best rack I have ever had.

Another +1 for Thule.
Great thing about Thule is that it is SO easy to fit to the tow ball - less than 5 minutes out of the shed and fitted. One lever and done.

Others use more complicated fittings with multiple knobs; Pendle seems to need a semi-permanent attachment to the towball which i guess works if you have a set up with a permie tow ball. I've got a removable towball so would be a non-starter.

Unless you can leave it attached to the ball and remove it all together?
