These things seem to die on me evry three years! This morning the current Epsom has taken to printing some parts of a page but not the main body text. Black ink replaced but no joy! Also did the 'clean print head' action.

Anyone have any recommendations please? Happy to be attached via USB, needs to be colour and scan as well as print. The most important factor though is ability to take non-branded inks, I'm not paying £30 per ink cartridge!

Also needs to be available pretty quickly...

Thanks

I bought an HP - ENVY 5032 All-in-One Wireless Inkjet Printer from Currys PC World after talk on here about HPs instant ink service. It might be available in other places now but I had to get it during the great lockdown home office/schooling rush and PC World was the only place with stock!

You get 5 months "free" printing after which it reverts to a subscription. So far they have been really good sending out new cartridges way in advance of the old ones running dry.

Having had hopeless inkjets in the past I've had a laser for a few years but this is almost as fast and the quality is a lot better for images and so on. Really easy to set up using the phone app for wireless printing.

Are the subscription ink services cheaper than just buying as and when? HP don't accept after market cartridges I think

I guess it depends on what your output is. The plans are here:

https://instantink.hpconnected.com/uk/en/l/#

For me it made sense as I had no idea how long home working and schooling were going to last for. The monthly cost seemed reasonable to know I always had the ability to print stuff off.

For the free number of months I'm on the heavy user plan to make sure I'm covered. Once that's up I'll go down to a basic plan.

The other good thing is they send a returns envelope for the old carts as well, saves me another job finding a recycler.

HP OfficeJet Pro 9019 here, works very well, duplex, paper tray underneath, easy to connect to the network/print from phone etc. Not sure what the current deals are, but came with money off at PC World and a years instant ink subscription. Quite big though - that's a 32" monitor next to it

Use the current thing you have for scanning and buy a laser for printing.

Bit more money up front but you'll save in the long term. Something like a Brother HL-3210CW.

I'm keen to minimise clutter - never gonna be as tidy as STR though!!

Next problem is stock - most places sold out!!

How often do you print stuff? Ink jet printers often get clogged with dried up ink when not used regularly. You can get head flushing solution that will unclog the heads and should be printing like normal again. I very rarely have to print anything so could be many months before I fire the printer up again. Quick flush with the cleaner and it’s working normal again.

Cheers, it is quite a nice place to be, decent set of speakers, beer fridge and a bird table right outside the window (can get much closer than normal) it's a nice place to sit as well as work.

It was always going to be a bit of a man pad though under the thinly veiled disguise of an office 😂
