Report it on the sticky, Forum Update  thread

It's sticky no more as the forum is now fixed and bug-free. I'm sure no-one will mind you digging it out and bumping it back to the top though.

I’ll highlight this to Tech as adding to Forum Update thread will have the same effect, a mod will highlight the post.

Yep I had it yesterday.

But don't worry it's all fixed or your fault forgot running a very specific set of apps.

Not for me, they’re not. And haven’t been for a year or more. Not a forum or website issue if it only affects certain members. I’m not a subscriber, so don’t have a ‘P’, and I don’t use any sort of adblocking ‘ware, I just use Safari on my iPad.

I don't know how these things work, just wish they wouldn't.

But that address has singletrackworld.com in it is that a redirect through stw?

I had this happen 3 times in ~10 minutes last night on my phone (I wasn't logged in if that's any use). All 3 times I was redirected to another site inviting me to spin a spinner to see what I'd won. I've never had any redirects on any device previously and not had any on my phone this morning either.

Yeah I had it on my iPhone yesterday - could barely navigate a page without it popping up again. I gave up and went elsewhere.

Like @CountZero I just use Safari on my iPad so no adblocker (in fact the OS & browser are so old I can't install any extensions) and don't get any popups whether logged in or not (I'm not a premium member). I'll very occasionally use my phone (iPhone 5) to browse the site and don't get popups there either.

Looking at the parameters in the above links:parm5=singletrackworld.com just tells the popup where it was invoked/called from. PulsePoint is a "programmatic advertising technology company", the "+bidder" bit is interesting as according to their website it's their bidding analytics software but I don't have it on the page as served to me.

The forum has basically been unusable on my mobile for about a week now, popups, redirects and the page jumping around as it slowly loads means I'm only accessing STW via my laptop now.  Add in that it sucks huge amounts of data still - must be all the ads - means that mobile access for me is now out.

My pop up blocker just blocked 14 on one page (Salisbury thread).

Which was nice

Thought I'd try again, it's the only site that does this to me. Works phone so no dodgy browsing. Have a nice weekend all!

Gave up using STW yesterday because of the constant pop ups,  just tried again and still getting a repetitive pop up for free phone every few seconds which my security tells me is a dodgy site. Very frustrating, can't use the forum at the moment

Keep getting the ''congratulations"  popup for the last few days.

Doing my head in. If only my life way more interesting I'd stop visiting.

FFS!!!   Literally as I was about to reply to this thread I got the "Congratulations you've won an iPhone x" redirect.

It's ridiculous. If I spend more than a few minutes on the forum I have countless pop ups blocked and eventually get the redirect website....

Oh my god, it's intolerable on android on my Nexus 5X. Every other time I open a thread and four out five times when posting I am redirected with an annoying voice saying congratulations.

And SwiftKey still doesn't work.

I might have to flounce at this rate.

A suggestion for those that are getting the popups/redirects.

Clear all your cookies and browser history. This will get rid of all your log in status details for every web site you've visited on the device so not something to do if you don't want this to happen.

Now log back in to this site and no other and see if the popups return. Don't visit another site.

If they do then it's something relating to this site, if they don't then it was something to do with your web history. It may not be the same reason for each individual.

but thats bollox really ... this site should be such that irrespective of browser history, it shouldn't be setup that allows / generates pop-ups in such great number.

You come to the site from whereever, with no pop-ups previously, and then you're hit with them when visiting this site, then this site is the issue.

Plenty of other large forum / discussion sites manage to not have pop-ups without expecting users to delete their histories etc.

Whitestone,

Tried what you suggested, got a pop up again after logging in. On Android, I could have won loads of phones today, shame I do not want one, the site has become a PITA the last week or so.

It only happens on this site, and never happens on any of the other forums I regularly use.

So it’s a problem with this site

I don’t need to delete all my history to figure that out 🤔

@fisha - you are missing the point which is to prove where the problem originates.

@highpig Thanks for trying

I don't get popups/redirects using my iPad, apparently some do. It does mainly seem to be a problem with Android.

Just checking how things are today, got 9 pop ups blocked and a couple of redirects to a new phone within the time it takes to find this thread and moan again about not being g able to use this forum. Is anything being done to sort this out beyond telling us we're doing something wrong?

Doesn't Android have a setting to block pop-ups?

I checked my phone (iPhone 5) and I have the pop-ups blocked in settings, I'm assuming that I've also done this on the iPad. I turn everything off that I don't need or aren't essential to displaying a site, pop-ups definitely come into that category.

I get around 9 popups blocked on this site on every other visit or so - android blocks the popups but notifies me of there creation.

This has been since the new site build so assuming it's an issue with that.

I tend to log on and get a few minutes before I start getting swamped, and yep on a android phone. There is no other website that causes this issue, just STW. I'm not offay with what causes this issue, but I can't fathom why STW just doesn't do what every other website I use does and stop it!

And with that I'm off again....

redirected 5 times to ( not pop ups but full redirects taking me to another site that then tries to hijack the phone) in a 3 hr train journey.  Each time very difficult to get rid of the redirect.

I really think STW are in a real bad place over this.  Traffic dropping so they cannot afford to turn of any ad networks or they go bust but the ads are causing more folk to reduce their posting.

I think we the content creators without whom there would be a vastly reduced income to STW are being treated with contempt

Getting swamped with redirection ads when browsing on my Nexus tablet that are often stopping me from going back to a thread, to the point where I'm going to stop visiting STW on it, but fine on my PC.

I feel like I'm possibly missing out on something here, although I do have pop-ups blocked in my browser settings (iPad safari).

dont all browsers have this function/option? Having a counter seems a bit strange unless there's a hidden victim league championship going on, in which case I'm probably not missing anything 😃

Everyone else on this thread, self included, ONLY have this problem with this site. One user even had a porn pop up while browsing in a public place. This has been going on for quite a while now and yet nothing, nothing* has been said by way of apology/remedy/explanation. See also the Forum Update thread.

*Yes, I know, the mods have been wearily, thanklessly trying to paper over the cracks.

A digital sub is £15.

But everyone already contributes by being the market advertisers pay for and by freely contributing content that is subsequently used to drive more readers.

And the £15 Is for a magazine that many don't read. The forum Is, apparently, merely coincidental to that.

Android and chrome, same issues as everyone else. SwiftKey has never worked.  The site is the worst written I've ever been a part of. I just don't understand it when it was excellent before and was the site I used the most.

I used to get occasional, but regular, popups prior to the site rebrand.

In the last day or two, things have gone ballistic - surprised I was able to make this post.
