yeh - saw them twice and him once, all good stuff
surprised he was "that" old TBH; I'd have had him closer to my own age

I saw them a a couple of years ago, fantastic performance, 100 mile an hour delivery of great songs. Was hoping they'd be back in Brighton soon, wouldn't have hesitated to go and see them again.

Bollocks.

Saw the first reunion gig in Manchester in the 80's and loads more.

Pure and simple, brilliant band, brilliant music.

I hope his last was a good one...

Arse!

An absolute genius songwriter. Just perfect 3 minute pop songs! Came across as a lovely bloke too.

My favourite ever cover, which just shows his superb songwriting...

So sad, 63 is not old. Always loved their music, ever fallen of course but also harmony in my head were classics.

Real shame to go that young - first real band I ever really listened to.

This was always my favourite - sorry about the bonus Jimmy saville in there...

😢 I had a notification pop up on my pad’s screen earlier, made me really sad, that, he was a year younger than me! I saw them play Swindon back in the 70’s, along with Squeeze and Eddie and the Hotrods. Still got a Buzzcocks tour tee that I wear around the house, it was too small so I hacked the sleeves off and wear it like tank during the summer.
Saw them again around ten years ago, still just as good. 🙁

They came and went a bit before my time, but I remember as a teen being in HMV or similar and hearing Homosapien playing in the background and thinking "oh, this is good" then discovered him and them.

Consider myself lucky to have been listening to music and going to gigs when the buzzcocks were around. A truly original band

Oh man, I was a mega Buzzcocks fan. They were the first gig I went to (Love Bites tour, Aberdeen) it was awesome to a 14 yo punker. First bootlegs I ever bought were Buzzcocks (Times Up being one of them)

They were always true punk to me. That they self released spiral scratch, booked the sex pistols to Manchester (twice!) didn’t go down the identipunk route and Petes amazing pop songs. Their coordinated adverts/badges/tours way ahead of everybody.

I was in that there Landan in the 80’s sometime and walking down Oxford St when I spied Pete walking up, I just couldn’t walk by, had to stop him, shake his hand and say hello and what his music meant to me.

Caught them again on their first(?) reunion tour, they still had it.

I can still remember as a kid playing love you more time after time in my bedroom...

Rest easy Pete.

Very saddened to hear it this morning.
Buzzcocks music never seemed to date like so many did of that and subsequent eras.
Times up Pete

I'm off to see a few punk bands tonight. Put the headliners t-shirt away and dug out a Buzzcocks one as soon as I heard. Pete was a top bloke and a great performer.

When we formed a band back at school, I drew the short straw and had to learn guitar. I'd play along with buzzcocks songs for hours (Pete's one-note solos made that easier), to the delight of the neighbours of course. The bloke across the road came over to tune my guitar, showed me a barre chord and I was off 😂

ESP one of many we love. Top bloke & band. Them, the Undertones and early Damned way above Pistols/Clash for us...

On a bit of a tangent, if you're in Manchester then the photographic exhibition 'There is a light that never goes out' at Central Library, featuring Jill Furmanovsky's work of Manchester bands over the years, including Buzzcocks, is well worth checking out

Let's not forget he also wrote the iconic (to some) theme for Channel 4's coverage of Le Tour.

RIP

Thanks for that Kelvin. I’ve the casssette version of XL1 somewhere, never seen the visuals (can’t remember what computer you needed to run it...).
Twilight was my favourite off that, the birdsong always confused me (I lived in the country, I just thought they were louder than usual...)

Not that it needs to but the music still largely stands up because it was simply it's own thing.

"Another music in a different kitchen" was the first album I bought (honestly! The Goodies LP doesn't count). Remember listening to "16 again" when I wasn't quite 16 and 16 sounded old, and the line "when you're twenty wo wo wo wo wo wo one!" sounded ancient. Had a ticket to see them supported by Joy Division. Didn't go, for reasons I forget, hey ho. Spiral Scratch and the Time's Up bootleg were their best stuff as far as I'm concerned. A bit of Mancunian cool and the only out non-straight punk band leader (I know not really punk) I can think of off the top of my head. Throbbing Gristle don't count.

Mebbe to you, I was strictly analogue in them days...

That’s a cracking photo binners, early too (how long did Garve last on bass?). Took me a minute to spot the fiction romance...
