As per the title really, not been knocking around long enough to know why/where it started??
Saw this at Sea Otter and thought of you all. Google revealed this origin story thread, and now I have learnt something new.
Surely these legendary threads should be mandatory reading as part of the STW towers onboarding process 😉
Also, seeing a 14 year old thread that I remember has made me feel old!
Wow, look at everyone (including me) talking about owning people with bombers already being an old piece of STW folklore 14 years ago!
The Oneeyed willy didnt just threaten the perp with his bomber lowers iirc he locked him in a room until the police arrived!
Read from the start and thought Jamie was back until I saw the age of the thread. 😔
It's a great list of the fallen. Did they all get a life beyond the Singletrack chat forum?
14 years! Jeez I feel old.
Chickenshit poltroon!
"Badger-San is unsatisfied with the responses to his innocent query about tyre inflation."
14 years! Jeez I feel old.
it's a 14 year old thread about a 10 year old thread, feel even older now?
Never mind all this, how do you get Sudocrem off a cat?
Anyone know a 'Lee Anderson'?
Now you say it, the name rings a bell.
A trip down nostalgia lane reading the contributors of this post.
kaesae or whatever his name was, in the "Whats this joker on about?"
Was it kaesae who started the thread about the postman shining him in the eyes with a laser, which every one thought was some kind of performance "joke". Unfortunately it turned out he was actually "troubled", and he committed suicide not too long after. Personally I don't think anyone did anything wrong on that thread, it realy did look like a deliberately comedy thread, but obviously the eventual outcome was very disturbing.

I am sure he popped up not that long ago. No gifs though
"Never mind all this, how do you get Sudocrem off a cat?"
Involves a dog, some frozen artisan sausages, and a baby robin.

It's not quite that old, I didn't discover the forum until 2002 and I'm pretty sure I remember the thread in question. And the running jokes from the early days often seemed to be more about the weird way anyone could use any name they wanted for a forum post - I think hora is referring to one of those in this thread when he talks about carbon steerers.
I never found picolax thread that funny.
Sudocrem cat and magnetodog though...
Where's Louise when you need her? And the frozen sausages
Louise will be with TrollingZooFighter
All that time ago those people were just strangers on the internet, and now after all this time, I've come to know them as... strangers on the internet. 🙂
The Oneeyed willy didnt just threaten the perp with his bomber lowers iirc he locked him in a room until the police arrived!
And to add to the comedy value of the story iirc he was the spitting image of Screech in Saved By The Bell.
magnetodog
Quality thread.
Indoor and outdoor girlfriend anyone?
Some of the links to the old Mums Net threads were amazingly funny and amazingly eye-opening in equal measure.
Still chuckle about the penis beaker or the Dino deniers, it is very sweary over there mind!
Reminds me of some classic threads, but 14+years!!!
I’ve come to know them as… strangers on the internet. 🙂
Thank you, Arnold.
Quality thread.
Indoor and outdoor girlfriend anyon?
I searched for it and found the goodbye magneto dog thread... And cried all over again. RIP Murphy.
🤣🤣🤣 at @martinhutch post!
And thanks also for the resurrection of this thread - I can remember reading this one first time around, and the original threads mentioned in this one! It really does make me feel old.
Actually, I am old!
I think the penis beaker and dino and probably other ‘classics’ are planted by Mumsnet HQ to create a fuss. Too unlikely to be real.
No way is the plane on the conveyor that old!
Also, seeing a 14 year old thread that I remember has made me feel old!
You’ve obviously never used the forum search function then.
Didn't Sudocreme cat involve an emergency flag-waving child who has now probably of voting age.
