That trailer is heavy on the stunts... and why not! Definitely aimed at getting people into the cinema rather than waiting for streaming.
Apparently, and it's a relatively unknown fact, he does all his own stunts.
Interesting how they cgi'd the giant ramp out on top of that cliff.
A neighbour worked on the film so I'll be watching just for his name in the credits - apparently only just stopped filming it, but he won't give me any gossip or talk about it at the moment as he's locked into a massive non-disclosure agreement.

Well, the time has come, tickets booked for IMAX tomorrow, reviews are excellent, cannot wait 🙂
So, anyone else see it over the weekend? I thought it was excellent, I saw a review that said it was essentially machine-tooled entertainment, and I'd totally agree. I really don't see why Bond bothers anymore, as a franchise it's been blown out of the water by M:I (and Bourne).
Only a couple of things bugged me. They really didn't need to say "The Entity" as often as they did (you can just say "it" folks, we know what you're talking about). And given that uber-badass Ilsa (mmm, Rebecca Ferguson...) had a sword, there's no way she would have been bested by baddie fella who only had a knife.
And a tip for baddies when trying to beat up a goodie, and this stands for most films to be honest - you can all pile on at once if you like, you don't have to take it in turns 🙂

Yeah and, to be honest, I don't know why they bothered - with all the CGI they put around it, it all looked CGI anyway.

Yeah, maybe, there were a LOT of exposition scenes. They could have got nearly there by saying "it" rather than "The Entity", they said it so many times 🙂

I think the "plot" such as it was, was more designed around a series of "Tom Cruise wants to base jump a motorbike, how can we do that?" and "Tom Cruise wants to crash a train, how can we fit that in?" but it didn't stop it being very entertaining. And yes, the Bond films have nothing on the MI franchise.
That said, the sheer over-use of the motorbike jump and train crash in the trailers (plus the countless behind-the-scenes stuff) sort of diluted it - you knew it was coming and it was just oh yeah, that's how they've fitted it into the "plot"...

People who watch Bond aren’t necessarily looking for a fast paced action packed film. They like a bit of intrigue and espionage with a bit of Best of British about it. Will be interesting to see where the reboot takes it.
People who watch MI are looking for fast action , big stunts (which are right on the edge of unbelievable). All that face mask bit is nonsense to me.

I'm not sure about that, I think they're exactly the same audience (with a caveat that you might get a few more older people at Bond films). If you asked people for a film that had fast action, intrigue, big stunts and espionage, they'd say Bond or M:I.

Vice-versa for me. Bonds of late have been too self-reverential and forgotten that they're supposed to be entertaining popcorn films, but they seem to want to also be nuanced character pieces which just makes them a bit po-faced (although, I'll admit, this M:I film was slightly drifting into that too)
I'm sure I watched a how we did it TV programme about that bike>base jump last year! Is this the film it's for? I assumed it came out aaaaages ago. How long have they been filming it?
Was delayed by the pandemic several times. And they're shooting the next one back to back.

Interesting opinions on target audience above. We went as family on Saturday (me , Mrs, son 15, daughter 13) Me and Mrs loved it for a fun roller coaster, Son thought it was too slow paced, Daughter though it was only action, no characters therefore dull.
I watched it last week at home ☺️ we were riding around the railway stations when they were filming it but didn't see a great lot. It was just as we were coming out of lockdown if I remember rightly. It's amazing trickery how they make things look totally different from reality.
I saw them filming in Dentdale and was looking to seeing local places on film but they've CGI'd the Austrian Alps round everything. Makes you wonder why they didn't just CGI the stunts into film of the Alps, probably look the same. Best bit was car chases round Rome - that Fiat 500 is a hoot - I'm pretty sure they didn't drive a Hummer down the Spanish Steps but it certainly looked like they did. Overall I enjoyed it and will watch part 2 which is due next year.
Makes you wonder why they didn’t just CGI the stunts into film of the Alps, probably look the same.

Plus full CGI is very expensive.

In all honesty, I think I've only watched the first Mission Impossible movie and maybe a bit of the second or third.
Always got the impression it was akin to a Bond film.
We went and watched the finished film on Sunday. All I can say is that it if had cost more than the £5 each that it did I would have been hugely disappointed.
Its basically a protracted car chase with some flighty bits. Bloody awful film. That Youtube vid of the shoot of the bike jump is more interesting.
Its a 2 part film that by the looks of it could have easily been condensed in to one short film.
Agree on the train bit, they could have just crashed a Hornby train in a CGI world.
And then the Austrian Alps was filmed in Norway, perhaps some where in the alps and also Buttermere
I can see Part 2 now. Some bond girl is going to get trapped in a sub trying to get to the sub, James Bond (sorry Tom Cruise) is going to have to sky dive in have a mid air fight for half an hour with some evil person before diving in to the water and watching said bond girl slowly die from lack of oxygen through a portal in the sub whilst frantically trying to break in.
James Bond will then have another fight in the sub (Entity one) with evil man, before he kills him to death, and then the sub will turn on him too. But its ok James Bond always wins. The End
