The rear brake hose on my new bike rubs in the back wheel spokes. To remedy it, I feed the hose forwards into the down tune to take up the slack. This stops it rubbing...
Until the next time the suspension compresses, at which point the slack seems to be hauled back out of the down tube and slack builds up at the chainstay again. Which catches in the spokes.
Does anyone else have this same problem on their specialised? How did you fix it?
I guess a cable tie on the chainstay might sort it, but it appears that it's a twist in the hose which is exaccerbating the problem.
Also, there is loads of oil on the rear shock. Is this normal? Is this likely to happen due to setting the sag on the shock?
help
The brake hose is possibly too long? If it's twisted might be simple enough just to unbolt the lever and untwist it.
Bit of oil on the shock is normal, but a lot would have me worried.
Back to the shop u go!
What Kimbers said, new bike not right straight back to the shop for them to sort it out. They didn't do their job in the PDI properly.

Assuming they go out, ride it and get full travel out of the suspension repeatedly.
This is what the first free service/6 week check is for.
Depending on which back end you have there should be two mountings to fix the cable to the stays. One on the inside top which screws into the stay and one on the underside of the bottom stay to fasten to. If they are both holding it and it's still catching then the cable is probably twisted. The carbon back end is different. Also it's worth knowing that they all suffer from brake cable run on the inside bottom stay. The Specialized protective film that's on it will only last a few rides. We just keep reading taping ours with some thick black industrial stuff that we got a roll of years ago. All have ours have had a bit of oil on the shock from new.
The 2017 Enduro has re-routed the brake cable so that it doesn't rub the stay away .
Both the 2017 Enduros we have, a S Works and an Elite, have rubbed the stay where the brake cable crosses it in the same place.
Good upgrade by Spesh then 🙂
New shocks usually have some residue suspension grease/oil on the shaft for the first 6-8weeks, sane when they come bank from a full service.
Tracey, or others with Enduros, how bad is that rub issue? Would it put you off buying another one? Just seen some details on the 'new' 2018 model and I think it looks very good but if there are known issues that's a bit worrying.
No it wouldnt put me off buying another. Its more cosmetic than anything else and has been like it on our previous Specialized bikes. As I said earlier because we were aware of it we just put a piece of thick black tape over the area and replace it when needed. Its a minuite job with the wheel out.If you looked at the tape you would think it had been done in production. Its not Enduro specific. Its how the cable is fixed and how the stays are designed to move. If you press down on the seat to move the shock you can see how the cable moves even though its fixed to both the top and bottom stays
I've got the same prob on my elite, cable pulls through the holder on the chain stay on compression's but doesn't move back when the swing arm unloads, am going to try zip tying to seat stay, maybe put some tape on first to stop the zip tie moving
Ours isnt pulling through the clamps on the stays. It moves between them which causes the rubbing. If its pulling through the bottom stay clamp its usually because there isnt enough free cable underneath the bottom bracket
cheers all, some good info there.

Yup, that's exactly the problem. But of a design (or implementation defect) really.
I tried cable tying to chainstay, but of course that didn't work as there is a pivot between the chainstay and the disk brake mounts. Since the brakes are mounted on the seatstays then the cable should be stationary relative to them. I'll try taping to the seatstay.
Off to Gisburn tomorrow for the first ride. Quite looking forward to it, as long as I cn get the damn thing up the hills. Weighs 15 bloody kilograms!! 😆
Try changing the tyres and going tubeless, I lost 2 lb, inner tubes way over half a pound each, and tyres are very heavy, sidewall is a bit to stiff for my liking.

When I picked up my 2017 Elite (no carbon backend with internal cable routing) the hose was cable tied to the chainstay straight on the paint. I did cut it off and noticed the hose would move into the wheel. I have since tried taking the caliper offand taking the twist out, but to no avail. I have since ended up putting clear tape on the seatstay and then cable tieing the hose to that and have no issues.
this would only be an issue on the comp and elite models, the pro and s works have carbon rear ends with internal routing.Tracey, or others with Enduros, how bad is that rub issue?
There is still some rubbing on the stay on our S Works model.
