Yes this is now the 3rd GT Fury in the garage of despair...

This one is another 2019 Fury, 27.5 both ends but this time in a Large. Logic being it'll be either the 'bike for the lad to grow into' and/or a carbon copy to be used as emergency spares/spare race bike.

So for Dyfi I think i'll be riding this one as it's a bit bigger than the blue bike.... but then for race season for the lad, it'll go to meetings as 'i've broken my bike' spares and longer term i'll have the sky blue one as my 'daft uplift day' bike. I've got spare springs to keep it the same as his current setup, but in honesty i think in a few months he'll be moving up a spring anyway to a 400 from his current 350.

It'll be getting the brakes swapped as a first job for some Guides, the boy likes Guides as we know and i've got a spare set and it'll be nice to keep the cockpit (i know i hate that phrase too)

This does also mean the Trek Fuel stays and will be next years Enduro Race bike for me..

One of those urban downhill specialists?

Will be interesting to see, in the photos it looks great condition, but will give it a check over of course. There's not much that can possibly be wrong with these, it's a fairly simple MTB just with big bouncy bits.

Sadly it looks like i won't get it till Sat morning...

Happily, i'm at Rogate on Sunday.

The correct decision. Well done.

I was weighing it up and for example the Slayer would cost me £1200 to buy and collect, it then depreciates by 25%-40% after just 1 ride... this Fury cost me £1600, so once you factor in things like having the spare shock, forks etc that could be swapped on race day, or just swapping straight to the other bike, it's worth more to me/us.
We could also prep one bike as a wet bike for example, slightly different rubber and suspension settings for wet tracks or locations where it rains mid-way through the day.. (Yes i know it's completely excessive, no-one needs to tell me having 3 DH bikes is ridiculous hahahahaa)

I just need to make some decisions on Sat after the lad jumps on and tests is as to which of the GTs will be sprung for me... i suspect it'll be the older blue one... Partly because he's so much a better rider than me and will justify the better bike more. But if i can get away with swapping just the spring on Sat afternoon, then i'll deffo be giving it a test at Rogate on Sunday at the Halloween thing. I just need to work out the spring compatibility stuff and how much it actually matters. We've got a huge selection of springs but not all are compatible with eachother due to diameters/spacers.

The purple one which is the same model is running a 350 Fox SLS spring, the BLue one can't run the SLS spring as it's a Rockshox and the wrong fitting... but the purple one CAN run the RS or the SLS lol... it's a bit of a minefield.
The blue is currently still sprung to my weight from the MIJ race, so may just be easier to leave that one as 'mine' and use it.. leaving the green as the backup bike.

You're going to rival the pro pits soon.

Do you have an EzyUp and bike stands?

Rockawning and stands of multiple types...

However it's a Kuga not a motorhome so i think the Pro pits are safe yet 🙂

What the actual?

Are you planning on riding this thing 'on the normal trails just when I need some extra help because I haven't ridden or practiced much'?

I mean I guess you'll get fit.

Or are you actually gonna start hucking road gaps like I suggested in your last thread?

Wait you already have this bike twice over? Why couldn't you have just ridden that one? If you are a different size to your kid, why not just put an air shock on it?
If you haven't actually picked this up yet or paid for it (and so you could still change your mind) how is it a new bike day?

So many questions...

Correct we have another, 2 actually. As above, it'll be spare race bike for DH.

Because it's bought and paid for.. I just haven't got to collect it yet.

why not just swap the shock over? The two newer ones must be the same size. Not sure about the older I-drive one.

Indeed, it's certainly an option, it depends on what and when etc... The 2 newer bikes are essentially identical. Swapping the shock is 5 mins work. So i could in theory leave 1 shock at my weight and 1 at his... but the forks are unlikely to suit us both well... but if it's an emergency swap at a race i can easily just throw the shock from one bike to the other yeah 🙂
As he's getting bigger though we may experiment with incremental springs, so trying a 400 for a harsh/jumpy track rather than his usual 350.

I thought you made a point 3-4 times in the last thread that you didn't have enough spare cash to splash on buying a new bike without selling one - but you've just bought another bike you already have? (but nicer? Are you going to sell one of the others?)

Are you both going to be racing dh at the same time? If not why do you need 2 bikes let alone 3? It isn't cyclocross - if you have an issue you can swap wheels / shocks etc.

Why not just buy a secondhand air shock / fork for the dh bike that fits you both best and sell all the rest? Plenty of top riders are on air?

Unless the buying / selling is the activity and you're making money on it in which case all power to you!

I don't believe that was how i said things. I may not have wanted to spend £1500-2000 on a new frame for example, that doesn't mean it was impossible for me, just not my preference.

Are you both going to be racing dh at the same time? If not why do you need 2 bikes let alone 3? It isn’t cyclocross – if you have an issue you can swap wheels / shocks etc.

Sometimes yes... but not often. But at times we'll deffo be at DH/TC locations together.

Why not just buy a secondhand air shock / fork for the dh bike that fits you both best and sell all the rest? Plenty of top riders are on air?

Neither bike fits us both really, we're different sizes and weights... I could buy an air shock yes, but the forks would still be wrong. I could buy air forks too, but that's all getting bonkers IMO.

At the end of the day i've got 3 DH bikes that are worth less that most peoples Ebikes... I don't really see how it's an issue. Or indeed why i need to justify it to a random bloke on the internet who seems like whatever i say he's going to disagree with. 🙂

Unless the buying / selling is the activity and you’re making money on it in which case all power to you!

No, not making money on any of this stuff. If i find i don't really need or use a DH bike, then the blue older model will get moved on next year. I'm not exactly sure what i'm doing 'wrong' here... i'm buying bikes, riding them and having fun... Is that not enough ?

I love Weeksy's NBD threads; there's always an element of WTF/Facepalm in them which brightens my day.

I’m buying bikes, riding them and having fun… Is that not enough?

Hell yeah it is!

I have to admit I'm a little envious; I'd like to have a crack at some of the FoD DH stuff on a proper DHer.

Just say the word matey... We're there tomorrow. But we're also there a reasonable amount. I usually take the Fuel and likely will take it tomorrow, but i'm always open for some riding. Heck i'll even book an uplift day and bring all the bikes and the lad 🙂

@ads678 - if that happened I think 2 things would happen.
1 - Weeksy would probably crash STW with all the threads about bikes.
And
2 - His poor mind would probably exploded under the stress of having to replace 3 DH bikes, the Trek, the Liv and whatever his son’s trail bike is (I can’t keep up).

Imagine all the swaps, trades, classifieds trawling it would require!
It takes me long enough to pick 1 bike.

At least your son is happy with the GTs and you’ve got spares. Lol

If you buy him a Status I think my head will explode 😂.

As long as you’re all having fun and not bankrupting yourself then carry on. Amusing the rest of us with your crazy shenanigans is just an added bonus.

You’re getting more riding than I am at present. I’m living vicariously through your adventures 😜.

So this one isn't actually being bought after all. The deal has fallen through. But arguably it's potentially a good thing.

Why not just buy a secondhand air shock / fork for the dh bike that fits you both best and sell all the rest? Plenty of top riders are on air?

Whilst i don't see this quite as the plan, it's along the lines and we had the boy sitting on both his current GTs and i think they've got a bucket load of room for growing yet for him. So the plan will potentially be to sell on the smaller of the 2 sometime next summer and get a DH bike that has both air front and rear so it can easily be tuned for both riders then. That may even change a little more than that when i actually find out that i can't even ride down these mythical tracks on a DH bike and i don't even need one in the slightest and we'd end up not worrying about whether i can or cannot ride it.

Given that you've revealed your son has a sponsor there's still a need to buy a bike of whatever brand you like?

May I suggest a new rule - weeksy only buys a bike when a major member of the government changes ( say, PM/CoE/FS/HS) ?

That'll bring you down to one a fortnight and we'll get to sleep at (some) nights 😎

GEs don't count - we're all allowed a new bike for one of those
