I have an Instinct Solar and was thinking of upgrading it to a Fenix 6 pro solar, mainly for smarter look at work meetings etc. I had a try of one but felt it too heavy and bulky. Think I may get the new Apple 7, it seems to do all the health stats and more compared to the Instinct, just no nav, which I don’t use much. When riding I use a garmin HR strap paired to a Garmin 530 as I need to keep an eye on the numbers.

Seems Apple only downside is need for daily charging…

Would probs keep the Instinct for bigger days/weekends away.

Apple half the price of the Fenix too, any reason why not to ?

They’re different though. I’m an apple watch fan, had one since they first came out. I use the non sporty functions as much as other stuff - calendar, reminders, timers. And all via voice control

Not sure if fenix can do that. Use Apple Pay a lot too but that’s nothing special these days

I get about a day and half from my aw4, even now at about 2 1/2 years old.  maybe two days when it was new. Takes about an hour to charge up.

it’s a far better smar****ch than any Garmin but if you want to log ultra long runs/rides then Garmin is probably better.

i think I say it on every thread, but the AW doesn’t use its own GPS if it’s within range of your phone.

i thought about updating to a 7 but think I’ll wait another model.

Whichever Apple Watch you own make sure you purchase the Workoutdoors app. It’s all you’ll ever need for fitness tracking.

Good points, think I’m just about convinced! Will go have a look in store next Friday to check whether 41mm or 45mm fits best.

Do people really care what watch you have ? No I didn’t think so…

I’m glad I don’t worry about what people think about my watch ! It’s a pimple past the hair.

^^^ not, but I care, same reason I don’t go to a board meeting in trainers. Horses for courses.

not, but I care
clearly not if you currently wear that Instinct Solar thing - looks like the watch I had in primary school 😂

I was planning on getting an AW7, but I haven’t yet and the wait (ordering online) appears to be a month now! Truth is there’s nowt wrong with my AW3, although the 7 obviously has a few extra features & a much better screen.

Daily charging (2 days if you don’t use any apps) has never been a problem, if I forget to do in overnight even half hour in the morning will give it enough to see it through the day. Even camping etc is fine - I always take a powerbank anyway and it takes very little juice to charge the Watch.

I had an AW4 for a few days about 2 years ago. Really wanted to like it, but found it totally superfluous to pretty much everything I did. Kept trying o find ways to incorporate it into my routines but found it easier/quicker/better just to use my phone.

I have been thinking about getting an SE recently though, but haven't done so because I think that, once again, it'll just sit on my wrist and be under-appreciated.

you made me google what "that Instinct Solar thing" is and ....
thank you very much.
UK needs more sharp people like you rather than board meeting fixtures "not in trainers"

It’s a pimple past the hair.

You should maybe get a watch to cover that unsightly hairy pustule in meetings

you were doing it wrong! 😀 I rarely use it actively (running an app etc) like you say it’s easier to use a phone than poke around on a tiny screen (unless you are using it cellular sans phone, which is an awesome benefit.)

I mainly use it passively - quickly seeing who’s calling/messaging or notifications, check on timers I’ve started from my phone, etc. There are a lot of contextual things that will just pop up as well when relevant - Directions, or tickets to be scanned etc. It’s also used for authentication these days, eg unlock your iPhone whilst masked, Apple Pay on Mac, my work accounting package uses it for 2FA now.

I see it as an extension to an iPhone. Yeah, it’s not essential (although I’d miss it if not wearing it!) but makes a lot of things a little bit better 😀

Yep been waiting for its release to replace my old Apple Nike watch. Probably get it from John Lewis as I've got a £250 gift voucher to use up.
