You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Off over to Burgundy again this year, 9-19th Aug. A couple of years ago a fair few of us met up at the base of the Super Morzine and had a cracking day out, it would be fantastic to do it again if anyone is about this year ? Will only be for the day and i'll likely take my T-130 this time. But it's better than me and if i can't ride it on the T-130 i can't ride it on something with 30mm more.
I should be there again big guy.
Keep us posted

I should be there again big guy.
Keep us posted
Well that's an excellent start 🙂
There's only really the first and the last day i wouldn't be able to shoot over, but anything in between then, yeah i'm there for the day. We'll see if we get any more takers and see what days suit them etc.
This thread needs more legs.... it's lacking....
I'm hoping to be there from the 4th but struggling to find a nice apartment for sensible money at the moment...
Back up to the top
Keep me posted, you’ll find me in your address book under “Mr No Show” 😐 should have a bike suitable car by the summer ....
BTW weeksy will drop you an email as I have a friend who’s planning an SDW in a day ride and using Zwift as part of programme - some advice for him would be v useful (fellow Liverpudlian and biker, just bought a s/h Solaris), will put you in touch if you don’t mind
Me, my biking buddy and his son will be there that week.....if my van makes it.

Of course I don't mind, but there are far better riders than me to advise him.
.
I'll be out in Morzine around about that time I hope although we haven't firmed up dates yet. It would be good to meet up but I'm NOT going to ride La Bourgoise in the wet again. No sir, not me.
BTTT. Still planning on making it down to Morzine for the day. I may even manage to persuade Mrs Weeksy this time. Last time we made it over it was a cracking day out with STWers 🙂
Between Stoner and Ambrose we should get some decent XC routes... Along with having a bike i know well, it should again be fantastic 🙂
Burgundy is nowhere near Morzine?
Less than 3 hours driving, it's about the same as driving to Afan from home on a weekend 🙂
Morning then 🙂
So i was thinking 15th/16th of August as being the chosen date if that works for anyone ?
Will check, that may well work
Slight hijack - I’m there 4th to 11th of August, it’s a family holiday but I’m allowed a day on my bike.
Id be glad to meet up with a few other riders - if nothing else last time I was off solo I go lost, broke my bike and spent 2 hours hitchhiking back to Morzine to find my wife bleeding in the Burgar Bar near the pleny lift after a crash on the luge, oh how we laughed - eventually.
I think that works with us -allthough we haven't booked any digs yet!
Unfortunately I'll just miss that as we have to be making our way back to blighty on the 14th/15th in time for the greenman festival. Have a good time all.
Would the 10th or 11th work better then lads ? We don't arrive until the 9th... But i could come over earlier if it's better for more people ?
I'll probably be around but maybe not by the 19th.
Will keep an eye on the thread. August is a little far away for my style of organisation just yet.
10th might be OK for me. 11th is Les HAUTES FORTS trail race and Mrs Stoner is competing so I will be on brat minding duties.
How's the 12th then instead Stoner ? I'd have to make sure i don't crash as it's Mrs Weeksys birthday the day after 🙂 But as long as i can manage that, it works OK for me...
If not then i guess we may have to ride without you buddy...
Although, i'm not actually sure who may or may not be about now 😀
Related question. I was thinking about bringing the wife over in the morning, then booking a place in Montriond for the night of the 12th. That way she gets to wake up in the mountains on her birthday. From what i can see it's only 2-3km from Morzine itself which is ideal. I assume there's a lift/transport to easily get from/to Morzine ?
Was Montriond the lake you do on the PPDS route, you go along the Ridge from Morzine then drop down to the lake with ice-cream stall there ?
Weeksy - Montriond is where my place is. The village has 3x bars/restaurants and a v good local shop.
The BALAD'AULPS BUS (LIHSA LIGNE 2) runs the length of the valley d'aulps from Thonon on Lake Geneva up to Les gets. One line of it goes through Montriond and takes you in to town for €1.50 e/w But I cant see a summer timetable yet.
However, it's a only 20min walk along the river (v nice) in to central Morzine.
The Lake itself is a 25min walk up the valley. There's a path in the woods or one that follows the stream.
You get to it from the Lindarets bowl where a lot of the Avoriaz lifts are, take the road descent to Ardent and then cut left over the stream and take the off road route down to the lake side where there are a number of hotel bars and a new ice cream parlour is opening this season.
(Oh, and I should be able to join you on the 12th)
Ace. Booked a place for 12th.
So, if anyone else wants to play, we'll be at the entrance about 25m from the super moraine life, 9.45am on the 12th Aug. How's that for a semi official plan?
jeez, you'll not be at the front heaving them up the hills in August! 😀
Will see you at the bottom of the SM on the 12th Weeksy
Changed tyre plan and went for some WTB Trail Boss tough. They're on the 'throw down the side of a mountain' wheels now.
Still looking forward to this lots... Just working on buying some shorts and tops etc 🙂

At least if i fall off the side of the mountain you should be able to locate me 🙂
weeksy, earlier

Just a quick bump and a question for Stoner.
There's a 'ridge' ride i forget the name of now, epic video with a trail right across the top with massive drops both sides.. I'm sure you know it... How viable is that for our days riding ? Whilst i'm happy with the trails etc, i'm also more than happy to make it a bit more of an epic adventure type ride.
I think currently it's only me, you and Ambrose who are confirmed and i'm sure that sort of thing would suit him as much if not more so than hitting a dedicated red.
Col du cou
I think that's an excellent ride for us.
Will post a route option later
BFITH....note this route.
Apologies for stepping in, we are there in July and wondered about col du cou. Local knowledge would be great.
FFS I wrote a lovely long reply and then got logged out and cant log in again except via incognito mode. Shonky ****ing forum!
Will try and remember what I typed.
This video
Starts at the descent over the Swiss side off the ridge to the south of the Mosettes lift. Before it gets as a far down as Crosets it turns South (Right) and runs along the face of the ridge, climbing up to the Col de Cou where with French/Swiss border is met by l'Arrete de Berroi at 52seconds.
Turning East (Left) along the ridge.
Return can be via Les Creuses (the valley bottom parallel to the ridge to the north) and back to Les Crosets, or descent via track road to Champery for a beer before taking the big Gondola (Croix de Culet) back up the Marcheuson and then descend red singletrack to Crosets (we did that descent last time)
This is roughly the route from and back to the top of Mosettes we'd do

and STrava Heat map of the route

Yup, that's the one 🙂
I'm in for some of that....
Yay!!! Accommodation is finally booked, in Les Gets. We'll be there from 4th - 18th August. Hopefully my legs will work a bit better by then.
Now I'm off to buy a new shirt too. Hawaiian.
Good stuff. Always a place for more hawaiian!
I may buy one just to fit in ! Watched some Col du Cou vids... still looks great
Just a monthly bump in case anyone is looking for a day out with STWers.
We still playing then guys yeah ?
Getting closer.... Any more for a day out in Morzine ?
I'll be 4th to 11th of August, it's a family trip but I do get a day pass!
It would be great to meet up with a group, if nothing else so someone can phone the Mrs when I spanner myself and 'prove' it's not my fault 😉
I am out in Morzine from the 11th August for a week with a mate and his lad (nither on STW) - so happy to meet up.
I'm still up for this. Do you have my mobile number?
I don't believe i do Ambrose. But we'll be at the bottom of Super Morzine early doors on the 12th and you're fairly tricky to miss 🙂
Will send mine over just in case though 🙂
NissanP, would be great to hook up for the day if our plans suit you matey.
Im driving down on the 5th so should be there in a few days or so, i'll be camping somewhere. Would be great to meet up and do some riding, looking forward to it! PM us some mob numbers etc (can you PM on here?)
cheers, Jon
Sorry Jon,
Just seen this. Will chuck my mobile over later in a bit. Anyone else then now we're getting close to ETA ?
In Morzine with wife and a few mates from the 8th to 15th 🙂 I'd be up for a ride!
12th single? Bottom of super morzine lift area 8:45-9
I can do the 12th! Can I send you my number weeksy?
sure mate, go for it 🙂
Wave to me on the A40 guys, I get into Les Gets on the evening of the 18th.
Enjoy yourselves.
Me and the boy are in Samoens from 13-17 and are planning to do a day in Morzine on either the 14/15 or 16 so if anybody is interested in meeting up just shout!
Yayyyy 😃 I've arrived in Les Gets, here for a fortnight. Look out for a bloke in a Hawaian shirt. Tall, handsome and witty too.
I'll be close by.
Keep it safe till I get there lads. Listening to Mrs Weeksy, she may struggle with the 5am start so if we're 15 mins late, she owes you guys a beer/coffee.
Sorted out bike rack yesterday, new rubber on the Whyte, all good to go.
It's only 1 day, but excited.
Ambrose, if you're about in Morzine, check out some 11 years old friendly Blues etc please. He's not doing Col du Cou with us now, so me and him will do a few runs the next morning and possibly 1 late afternoon on day 1. But due to timescales been don't want to be searching, just up and down.
Just out of interest guys, what's the pricing on runs off the SM lift ? If for example we went up SM and Zore twice, 1 adult 1 child, what's the best way to do it ? If we work on us having 90mins in the morning while Mrs Weeksy chills in bed, can we get 2 runs in ? I guess the other question is.. What time does the SM lift open ?
I may have to change my plans. Currently sat in the medical center in Morzine after Mrs A took a spill on the slippy wet clay on the first descent of the day.
X ray shows fractured pelvis. Off to Annemasse for a scan to check for further damage. Les Pompiers were very quick to assist but the wait for the ambulance is seemingly never ending...
Oh damn mate ! I thought I was having a bad day today as my lad went out with his mate and came back with a tubeless flat. Weird thought I, but it was a nightmare to inflate that one anyway even with Airshot.. So i took it off to check what had happened as i couldn't seal the hole with fluid in it (Done 2-3 months ago) and the fluid had turned to snakeskin over the whole surface of the inside of the tyre... No liquid, just a solid goo all over. We've got spare rubber but nothing Tubeless, so he's tubed again on the rear for now. But I've ordered a new Hans Dampf tubeless rear for it from Merlin and paid the extra for next day shipping, so hopefully we'll have it on before we leave. Hopefully !
But your news is a LOT worse than mine and my boys !
Fingers crossed for you.
Woah! Best vibes to Mrs Ambrose!
Weeksy, you will only do SM and Zore once (that gets you up to the trails), then I'd ride up to joux Vert and drop the blue to Brochaux/lindarets, then back up lindarets lift then return on the green and blue/red options to bottom of Zore, and road descent back to town. That's 3x lifts or 4x if you do the lindarets lift twice for shits and giggles. (if you take green Serrausaix be aware it will cost you a lift to get back up again to ride to joux Vert, but it's a good warm up for Jr if you choose to)
€25 for 3x for the pair of you, €30 for 4x. 5hr PDS passes would be €39 for you both in total. For and hour and a half, two hours I'd consider the pds 5hr so you can smash solent green/Serrausaix without counting lift tickets for the price of less than 2 pints.
Pints are 20euro ? lol
Well that certainly got worse before it got better. Tyre arrived, excellent start.
It was an absolute sod to get up... I'm sure these wheels are not fully tubeless.... But after a fair bit of sweating, we got there.... Fitted into the wheel.... TOO BIG ! Rear wheel wouldn't spin... Arrrrrghhhh. Thought i had more clearance than that.
Took a guess as to whether it would fit the front better... Eventually i got them swapped and the Hans Dampf is on the front now and clears perfectly.... It's a big bugger though that's for sure.. Not a lot i can do about that though, it's all good. Both now up and happy
Ready for Morzine.
Janice is now a lot more comfortable and getting pretty confident on the crutches. They have already been pimped with a bottlecage so she can have a cuppa to hand as and when. The trip to the pharmacy filled my daysac with medications and made a huge dent in my bank account- top tip kids, get decent insurance! The ambulance from Morzine to Annemasse was 420 Eu. But now Janice is (relatively) comfortable I have permission to have fun on the bike in the hills...
So anyway, I'm out and about again- yippee!
Insurance, good point. Forgot that.
Snowcard?
I'm using Dogtag. You have to be very clear that you will be using mechanical uplifts. That seems to be the insurers definition of DH, ie graded, MTBing.
Have just sorted snowcard for the weeks Morzine trip - just slightly under £50 as I accepted £150 excess.
Setting off tomoz lunchtime for arrival on Saturday. Keep an eye out for me on a black Cannondale Jekyll, mate on his brown Nomad and his son on a yellow Transition - probably arguing and bickering after the sleepless drive down!
FYI assur sportif is Vg vfm for the initial insurance cover of transport/mountain rescue etc. Not great cover on medical costs though.
See you chaps Sunday - pleased to hear Janice is relatively mobile.
Hope you guys are having fun. I get the impression that the weather is looking miserable for Monday.
What that may mean is a bit of a change for Sunday as I really want my lad to experience Alps trails, which if we can't do together Monday, then we'll have to do on Sunday.
I get the impression that the Col du Cou is beyond him climb wise, he'd probably give it a decent crack but it's supposed to be fun and I'm not sure that will be. Along with the fact that Mrs Weeksy won't be happy with him on the ridge of certain death ha ha.
So if the forecast stays as it's looking I expect wellw meet you guys Sunday as planned and then it's a little in your hands regarding where and what. Something in the 3-4 hour range to then meet the wife for lunch maybe in Morzine town.
Of course if the Monday forecast improves then wellw stick with plan A.
No problem Weeksy. Let's see who turns up and what expectations are. We will be riding in the same direction whether aiming for col du cou or the fun trails for Weeksy Jr so we can all start together and split at Brochaux if necessary
Top stuff. Thanks buddy.
Womble just texted me to bail.
Here we go then. I'm aiming to be at the Super Morzine by 9:00AM which to be frank is taking the blummin' mick because I really don't do mornings. I will need a lot of coffee.
After that my only plans involve needing to be back in Les Gets by lunchtime to help Janice- so no Col de Cou for me. I rode it today anyway and the French side is now so smoothed out I'd suggest that it would be a far more exciting ride if reversed.
Looks like Ambrose will be riding Les Linderets/ Avoriaz/ Zore. I'm planning to return to Morzine by L'Ele, time permitting.
Ambrose Weeksy and I think numbers may well be just we three and Weeksy Jr. So I will prob bring Stoner Jr and we can all go rail the greens on super Morzine and do a few runs into lindarets and the green panoramic into châtel. We won't go far afield as we all need to keep an eye on others. I thought we were aiming for 930ish at SM lift? I'll be there 915 with boy..see you then
Well I've managed stage 1 and got them out of bed. So we're hitting the road in 10. Arriving at car park by just before 9. Then walking up the hill and grabbing croissant for the lift. So as long as the drive goes well, we should be on time.
See you in a bit
Have a great ride guys - looking forward to the reports.
Fantastic day with the boys. Great company, superb trails and plenty of proper proud dad moments. Seeing my boy do jumps and taking on Les Gets DH reds on his little Whyte HT, awesome.
Beers with Stoner and Lacey afterwards with a massive burger, all great.
Now sitting next to the lake in montriond after a chilly swim!
Bought my lad a Les Gets bike park jersey

Sorry our plans went well out of the window once beer was involved Saturday night. We ended up starting with Pleney as SM queue was pretty big and ended up on SM/Zore later on.
Awww no worries mate. The SM lift closed early doors so everyone went over the Pleny side. Which was in hindsight absolutely great as my lad had an awesome day riding.
10 years old and hitting them trails, impressed
