It's amazing isn't it.
Such a subtle change they made yet it manages to make the bar look total ass.
Looks like a Jones and a Confucius made love.
I'm still curious why JJ and biff took exception to alpkit doing similar bars when humpert have been doing them from years -unless of course the extra width was the part they applied for a patent on.
This is the confucious effort!!! https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/HBOOMKB/on-one-mickey-handlebar
That should be called the "are you taking the" bar.
"Wolves did it" Hahaha. "You won't get a drop on you Brian"
Great, I can finally try some. The UK prices for the Jones bars are taking the piss.
I thought Humpert stopped doing Jones copies
Great, I can finally try some
Why finally ? Plenty of options for backswept bars.
These are no more trying Jones than buying any of the other back swept bars ...
While technically you are correct ampthill they just moved the space bugle and boomerang to their ergotec brand.
I wouldn't mind giving one of them a go at that price.👍
There does seem to be a lot more stealth On One ads on this forum once more.
Or a few threads linking to products might want to know about ...
All I’m seeing is links to products that point PX out to be utter douchebags. Some things will never change.
Pre-ordered, thanks. Could be the bar to replace the various Marys I've been using for the last 12 years.
Longish thread on BB about it - http://bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=13945 - seems like it's straight from a Taiwanese catalogue.
For the record, I've two sets of Jones Loop bars. Agree with the comment that the UK prices are exorbitant especially the carbon bars.
I wonder if they've licensed all the League of Gentlemen stuff on their product lines and website? Their attitude to Jones suggests not...
Swept bars of various designs have been around for yonks. These aren’t exact H-bar copies but they are very obviously inspired heavily by them.
I admire Mr Jones’ innovation and I understand that he’s developed a business model that hangs on the perception that he produces ‘premium’ products but I also instinctively dislike the idea of the benefits of innovation being restricted to those few who can afford them.
IANAL but I doubt JJ has a legal case for preventing ‘copies’ of loop bars like this. Given the absurd pricing of the originals (especially in the UK), I’m not sure he has much of a moral case, either. I’m conflicted.
I’ve had a Jones bend bar (no loop, same sweep) and now have an Alpkit FMC (same sweep plus loop), which I actually prefer. Not entirely sure why but it’s slightly narrower, which may be it. The On-One bar is from the same catalogue, I believe, but is labelled as 710 rather than the 660 or 680 (forget which) states for the Alpkit bar.
This could actually drive Jones sales. Try the PX one, like the shape, buy the blingier one.

By that logic everyone that bought Alpkit bike bags would now be using Revelate Kit.
They don't.
They just stick with the cheap stuff.
Fair one really, if it ain't broke, why fix it?
I believe, but is labelled as 710 rather than the 660 or 680 (forget which) states for the Alpkit bar.
Because I don’t pick something straight out of a catalogue if we can make it better.
Be quick if you want some. First preorder will be sold out by end of weekend I reckon.
... and he’s back, ruby slippers a’ rubbin’...
As far as I can tell, the patent application never made it through to grant, though patent searching is not much of a skill of mine. Of course, Jones may have been asserting other types of rights in the design.
about time someone brought a good copy out that are cheap. Jones have been having our pants down for years. and I have had a few sets, so should know.
Well it got me to look at the PX site for the first time in a while. Good to see even updated models have "142 through axles for strength" Must have got a total bargain on a job lot of wheels and recon forks.
Well done Planet X. Sensible price instead of 'hahaha! niche mtbers are ****s!' price charged by Jones.
More power to em.
Duckman - I thought you were the guy who likes standards not moving forward?
Was very tempted to try some as I wonder if I didn’t give the loops I had long enough before deciding they weren’t for me.
Think I am going to hold out for the bull moose revival though. About 20 deg sweep, 700mm wide and 70-80 mm stem and 20 mm rise please 🙂
Nope, you must be mistaking me for somebody else. I don't like change for changes sake, but also like to be able to replace wheels etc. It's why I will buy the Ribble 872 disc instead of the RT80 in March....Well; that and having the misfortune to expect PX to get the correct rear mech hanger out to me for my Dirty Disco in less than 3 attempts, which meant I couldn't take it on holiday with me. But you weren't there at that point so it would be churlish to lay that at your door.
At the risk of appearing thicker than I usually do, isn't the loop just extra weight? Isn't where the stem goes, the stiffness and where your hands are the only thing that you need? Surely the most efficient way of doing this is a basic swept bar with the geo, diameters and butting of your choice?
The loop thing is pointless no?
I think it is for holding with the hands. And partly for attaching the brake levers to.
@5plusn8 - The loop gives you a couple more hand positions. You've also got more room to mount lights, GPSs, etc. without getting in the way of hand positions.
@greyspoke - the brakes (on Jones at least) go on the backsweep just behind the join.
Never actually seen the patent application before - the manual that comes with the bars has them just behind the join with the comment "Position your levers up to but not touching the crossbar joint"
@brant – any reason you didn’t go for a different sweep angle?
Factory tooling dictated that angle on this batch.
I've got some new tooling going through and we're looking at some new versions. This was (as much of what you're seeing) first raft of products landing for our new push with the brand.
Our Nitto made bullmoose will come in three different specs as Nitto, me and my dad disagree in what's right. I guess that's why most bars are adjustable 😂
first raft of products landing for our new push with the brand.
This is good. I used to buy a lot from OnOne - decent products, good price and all that.
I stopped buying when items arrived incomplete or just plain wrong - and then the multiple issues of QC and refusal to deal with things seemed to arrive after you had left.
Is there an upgrade of the customer services as well, or will come back to you Brant having to step in online again?
Any hints on the bull moose specs ?
I used to have laverda jota bars on a moto morini back in the 99s why can’t someone make a bicycle version so we can adjust away
first raft of products
Going after Alpacka too?
Going after Alpacka too?
Just outdoor swim for now, but packrafts are on the list.
https://www.planetx.co.uk/c/q/outdoor/swimming
Any hints on the bull moose specs ?
700 wide (as wide as Nitto will make)
25deg backsweep, 60mm rise, hand position about like, oh, 60mm reach stem with a riser bar? it's hard to explain.
Then three angles of rotation - 0deg (nitto), 9deg (my dad), 18deg (me).
Like how you know I like Mary/OG bars pointing at the rear axle and some people like them flatter? Like that.
Then there's some shorter and higher bull moose too on our instagram.
Someone was taking the piss out of the joints, but they're nitto's joints, and I figure they know better than some bikepacking keyboard warrior.
Makes sense, sounds good
Brant, can you do a carbon Fleegle please?
Brant, can you do a carbon Fleegle please?
We could, but we wouldn't because tooling would be $8000.

What others said, plus more ways of attaching luggage securely, and being able to easily mount lights that shine over the top of it.
I've always liked my Mary bars, but sometimes wish for a better, more stretched out position on long climbs. This bar could help me attain that. I'm happy to pay over the odds for UK made kit, but not for stuff made by litigious Yanks.
We could, but we wouldn’t because tooling would be $8000.
Shame... Like my Fleegle very much but wouldn't mind it to be 30-50mm wider and made of black stuff...
Cheers!
I.
We could, but we wouldn’t because tooling would be $8000.
I don't fancy paying that much - but maybe more people than just me would buy one? 🙂
The Fleegle is perfect for my bike but I've not been able to find anything more bling in that sweep.
EDIT SQlab is the only one I think.
As I wrote earlier I've two sets of Jones bars, one is carbon fibre that I bought second hand (completely unused, didn't even have any marks at the stem mount) for a lot less than new - there's no way I'd pay £350 for them. The other set are the SG riser bars which are on my fat bike. I originally had the carbon bars on this but the bike was second hand and the previous owner is a little shorter than me and had cut the steerer tube so the bars sat a bit low - the riser bars counteract that.
My Solaris currently has a set of Velo Orange Crazy bars attached, they make no bones about the backsweep being "influenced" by the Jones bars.
I've a set of Mary bars but for me they feel a little weird, not sure if it's the lack of width or the combination of the rise and sweep but I couldn't get "right" on them.
without sounding a muppet, curretnly running a 760mm bar with50mm stem on the puffin, if fitting a loop bar what stem to correct?
molgrips - Syntace also do a swept bar.
chalky765 - I have two bikes with Jones Loops. The stem length is the same as it always was. You would only want longer if you plan on setting your controls quite far back from the join.
Just noticed that SQLabs have some much cheaper Fleegle-like bars in the Trekking section instead of MTB.
@chalky765 - From the Jones installation manual: "The Jones H-bar works best when the main grip area is approximately the same height as the saddle and far enough back toward the saddle to allow you to sit very upright when holding the rearmost portion of the grip area. ... To achieve this you may need a significantly shorter and/or higher rise stem."
I just use the same stem length. I've a Puffin and just did a straight swap and it works for me.

many thanks been jones curious for a while but dont think Mrs C would be happy with the price! might be worth a punt on the these planet X then.
TBH, one of the things with Jones bars is that they do hold their price quite well so if you don't get on with them, and not everyone does, then there isn't too much of a hit.
me and my dad
He will end up being right, you know it. Stop messing around.
In for a penny and all that Brant, cheeky spaceframe for under a grand? 😜
In for a penny and all that Brant, cheeky spaceframe for under a grand?
Nah, even Geoff - urgh cough, Jeff prefers his longer rear bike now
But, nontheless, yes 🙂
This thread has some comments about Planet X, and some about On-one. Without being rude, what is the difference between on-one, Planet-X and to a lesser degree Ragley - the first two seem to almost be the same website with different skins last time I looked?
Ragley are owned by hotlines (chain reaction) and brant used to work there many years ago
^ So, Wiggle then
Thanks, I'm going to assume that Was a tongue in cheek link?
About On One.
Founded in Sheffield, England over quarter of a century ago, Planet X is still run by riders,
So that's cleared that up.
Essentially planet X is road and on one is MTB, although the websites do seem to share a lot of stuff.
Planet X is the parent company and a brand itself.
On-one is a brand owned by Planet X.
What's happened to the Geoff Loop Bar page in the OP?
It's disappeared
First batch just sold out. Second batch order just being confirmed and web issues meaning we can't control over-sells without things being stupid... oh man...
It'll be live again tomorrow (I hope).
Oh OK
Hopefully have delivery estimate - my mate would like one
Brant, is there an eta on the second batch?
Cheers.
Brant, is there an eta on the second batch?
I was told early June this morning! But we're trying to get that down a bit. Not easy as the Far East have knocked off for New Year now, but we're seeing what's possible.
Hi Brant
I ordered some bars at lunchtime when it was showing pre order for march delivery - how will I know if the bars are in the first batch or whether you'd sold them all before the order went through?
Cheers
David

We pulled the page when we'd sold all but 4 of the ordered stock due to land early March. So fingers crossed, should be all good. If it's not the case customer services will be mailing you tomorrow and we'll be looking at airfreight options.
Mickey Bars still available.

Make sure you keep one for the OP..best stealth ad ever.
🙂 fortunately for me or unfortunately according to you guys I own the real McCoys 🙂
Prefer to prop up Biffs Coke and hookers problem

Brant
so ( in a somewhat cheeky manner) any chance of a set in Titanium ?
I quite like the look of the Mickey's, plenty of room for lights 😎
Brant, any chance of a carbon set in chewy like the knuckleball?
(patent) what would be good is a set of drop bars with a similar appendage in the middle or all the way across to prevent barbags and ting rotation (\patent)
I've ordered the new dropbars. Look handy.
