The other day I was writing Santa letters with my 3yo and one of his three requests was a box of cereal bars that cost about a quid from the supermarket:
What random stuff have you been asked for for xmas?
I'd be happy with that. Love them, they should just stick them end to end in one wrapper though, because that's how they are getting eaten.
Amongst less memorable items this year Micro Sims requested a light House like we see in Cornwall (Trevose Head) and his own bath.
Cardboard boxes (I.e. moving boxes) were in position no3 on my 8 yr old daughters list. She asked for and got some last year and to be fair they were probably the best present of all - we joined about 10 of them up to make a convoluted cardboard box tunnel / house complex with internal rooms, doors, secret compartments etc. it was a favourite place place for months until it had to be condemned due to lack of structural integrity.
My youngest has put 20 chicken nuggets on his Xmas list 😅
My wee man wants a magnifying glass like Chantelle and Rory (Cbeebies) have so he can find teeny tiny creatures.
We're only a few posts in and this thread is already filling my heart with joy.
Awesome!
My youngest has a tin of beans on his list. I think Santa can stretch to that.j

That.i remember the cardboard boxes as well, there is just something about them
3.5 year old isn't writing letters yet, but he said a couple of weeks ago "I want father Christmas to bring me some puddles."
Forecast's looking good for the lad!
On my 8 yr old daughters list - Pot noodles! (ahead of the iPad and iPhone 13 on the list!)
6 year old son - 20 packets of crisps!
Not Christmas, but for fadda jr's 5th birthday, he couldn't think of anything he wanted. Then his face lit up and he announced
“ I know: a balloon! A red one!"
My daughter has, "Stuffing (cooked)" on her Christmas list.
Last year she had a mango on her list. My wife bought her a papaya as she could find a mango. Daughter was not happy!
My youngest has put 20 chicken nuggets on his Xmas list 😅
The innocence of youth.
It's 20 chicken selects on mine.
Funk Jr (seven) asked for a Pokémon magazine and funkette (just turned four) requested “all the presents”
Our eldest is just shite at Santa at letters, which is odd because the list of wants is never short or cheap for the rest of the year. She's nearly 7 so had a few years of practice.
Last year she wanted some fingerlings, cheap toys that cost £5 each and offer minutes of fun. Her best friend had some and she just fixated on those for months. Her younger siblings still play with them. The bastard things use expensive button cells at a rapid rate.
This year it was Octonauts figures, again costing a few pounds.
No matter how much "Santa" presses there's no advance or expansion of the list. I think the whole Christmas thing is just so exciting for her she can't put much strategic thought into what she actually wants.
Mine are growed up - pros and cons.
What they want is usually bigger ticket and better thought through. On the other hand we have moments of true Christmas (I want Grandma to be well enough to enjoy Boxing Day lunch...etc.)
But I also miss the times when Nickelodeon was the channel of choice on the TV with regular ad breaks providing plenty of opportunity for pointing and 'I want that!' moments......
When my eldest was about six my sister asked what to get him for Christmas. I said he'd asked for a length of plastic chain and some hooks, she thought I was taking the piss but went along with it.
They were immediately attached to the back of his RC monster truck and used for towing all manner of stuff. Still gets used now, four years later.
A drawn list from ours as she's not writing yet but includes a stick, probably to go with the couple of dozen strewn around outside our back door and utility.
Couple of years ago she was blown away by the the discovery of another room as we finished renovations Christmas Eve. Spent hours running circuits shouting we've got 2 fires as the 2 doors allowed her to do circuits.
My 6yo has Cardboard on her list. To make scenes.
Awww
Back to front in terms of the thread title but... My girlfriend would buy her late father a tin of condensed milk for Christmas every year
That's sweet.
Mine are growed up – pros and cons.
Yep, same issue - also their own money from their jobs means that they rarely really want anything at Christmas. This year the eldest asked us to pay for a uni branded puffa jacket (he had ordered, but delivered to home so it can be wrapped and opened on Christmas Day) and I've treated daughter to a headtorch for her DofE expedition next year.
MrsMC has her eye on some pans in the January sales and is getting an IOU. Feel mean as she's had an awful year with her parents but she's adamant she doesn't want pointless stuff.
I bought myself a couple of cycling books for the kids to wrap up and give me.
Made up a food hamper of posh Aldi stuff for my parents, they didn't want anything buying.
Been a cheap Christmas this year.
That’s sweet.
Deserves recognition
My boy (8) wants a few quid worth of virtual money for Roblox.
That’s sweet.
Sickening, IMO.
Other end of scale, couple of years past now our 3yo boys asks Santa for ‘hard water’.
Not a clue and no amount of discussion sheds much light on it.
Wife makes up a play ‘pond’ from a small mirror as the water and toy birds sitting on top of it.
He seems happy for 2mins then ignores. How it compares to what hard water is in his head well never know.
My 6yo has Cardboard on her list. To make scenes.
Don't give her any cardboard, that will make a massive scene?
Not a clue and no amount of discussion sheds much light on it.
Ice? Which brings you onto one of the worst toys of all time...a Mr frosty slushy maker.
On carboard boxes, you're missing a trick here.
Big cardboard box or two, add assorted kitchen role cores and other random bits of card == home-made marble run.
My little girl gave us hers the other day - some sheets of paper to draw on and something nice for her mum. I must have been unwell as i got a bit teary eyed at it.
3yr old went off to see santa for the first time, He very excitedly proclaimed "im going to ask santa for a tractor"
Hoping he means a toy one as im not sure it'll fit under the tree otherwise.
My 7 year old has asked for sprouts... I think I can manage that request.
The 28 year old Sandwich Jr asked if he could bring one of his nursing home clients in for Christmas dinner. I suspect that we may have done a good job there (more by luck).
Oh my word. Emotional times happening right here.

Or he thinks he is about to come into some money...
I just ofcourse, that's a lovely thing Todo.
When my eldest was 3 she asked for broccoli and cheese. She got them!
My 9 year old has kept asking for a coconut. He wants to make a bird feeder he has seen made on Youtube.
Apologies in advance...
Father Christmas says to 10 year old "What do you want for Christmas?"
Kid - A Porsche 911
Santa - Come on, be realistic
Kid - Boris to tell the truth
Santa - So what colour Porsche?
For the cardboard lovers, check out “Dave made a maze” on Amazon prime - probably not with the kids tho. Brilliant film

Might be tough to slice?
Or he thinks he is about to come into some money…
I just ofcourse, that’s a lovely thing Todo.
Or he’s got a big announcement to make.
My near-6 year old is fully convinced he’s a superhero-in-training and has asked Santa this year to bring him his superpowers of SuperSpeed and SuperStrength.
Not quite sure how we’re going to achieve that, but my suggestion of a can of red bull did not go down well with my wife.
We’ve also got a version control issue with the Santa letters, so not entirely sure which iteration is current. Thankfully both kids have got relatively modest desires.
Might be tough to slice?
Oven has a slow cooking setting. Get the gravy right and the meat just falls off the bone!
For those with kids asking for craft materials, I would plead with you to come up with the goods.
As a kid, all I ever wanted for Christmas was some balsa wood to make models. I asked for it for years (my sisters still go on about it). But did I get any? Did I bo***cks! I would have been chuffed to bits if I had.
It still irks me 40+ years later. So this Christmas, I bought my own!
So please, give them the boxes / card / glue, whatever…
🙂
Not as heart warming as most entries here but my eldest (15) has 2 or 3 video games on his list. The kicker is that they are all available on the GamePass that he pays for himself every month. All he’s asking for is parental approval to play them as they are rated 16+.. !!
My 11yo asked for a banana.
A mate's son was asked for a box of fish and chips, so he got him some and wrapped it.
My son is 2.5 and would mostly like unrestricted access to the hoover...
My eldest (15) asked for a tracksuit. Easy peasy i thought and cheap!
I am clearly out of touch with the modern tracksuit. Checking online stores everyday for the best part of a week i managed to get the jacket from one place and trousers from another. £180 for both items. Nike tech fleece is expensive gear!
My youngest (4) is getting a truck load of lego.... whether she likes it or not! 😀
Our youngest asked for a ham sandwich when he was 2 - he got one covered with glitter left alongside the remnants Santa’s mince pie - a minor logistical challenge when you have ham-seeking cats! He now expects one every year. Not to be outdone our youngest now asks for a tuna sandwich. I’d settle for two less competitive children!
Our children’s asks have been very modest this year. I was made redundant in September and they have been so very thoughtful. I have to admit - brought me to quiet and private tears.
I've asked my grown-up kids either to donate to WBR or give a unit of blood
Suspect it'll be chocs again, though
Eldest Fazzini-jnr once asked for colouring pencils and lain white paper for Xmas. The following year it was an Xbox, tv, tablet and mobile phone. He got colouring pens instead!🤣
Mini Oddie Number 2 aged approx. 4 asked for toothpaste.
Funnily enough he got it!
The boy (9) asked for a gaming pc and some Hornby train track. So pretty normal.
The girl (3) has been asked multiple times over the past month what she wants from Santa. Every single time she has never wavered from "a pair of purple socks".
