I should be there Rich but will be either taking it steady or will be "economical with the route" as I've a big ride later in the month. 😉

On the outward leg it doesn't go over into Longsleddale or round by Rydal and Grasmere and skips Hawkshead to go to Coniston then over Walna Scar, back round by Stephenson Ground, up Parkamoor and through Grizedale. A different exit off Claife Heights and doesn't go over Green Quarter to finish.

Going up Garburn at the beginning missing Longsleddle Valley no Grasmere and you go up and down Walna Scar so yes but left all the other good bits from last year.

Oh Yeah!! I will be there. liking the idea of the 50 miler - its time I faced facts that the 100 mile is too much for me. The 50 will give me time to take in all the [s]pubs[/s] scenery like the real bikers do :-).

2017 was fabulous

Indeed it was, well apart from the torrential downpour on the top of Garburn Pass 😳

@nedrapier - it's most definitely a push going up that way!

Happy I missed that! Dry and nearly sunny by the time we made it there!

@nedrapier - it's most definitely a push going up that way!

Not surprised in the least! 5" tyres, 100 mm rims, 4.5 psi and a tiny gear might get you a bit further, but steep, loose, round rocks are steep, loose, round rocks!

Is it up the garburn pass the same way as 2016? That push up literally shredded my SPD shoes - split right across the sole.

Had to have my shoes gaffer taped up for the rest of the ride - flats and fell running trainers next time for me!

This was the best bike event I did this year. Will definitely be back, along with a few others who are getting a bit bored of me telling them how great it was 🙂

It was very hit and miss this year with the showers - we were dropping in to Ambleside and there was a massive shower on the other side of town, ten minutes quicker and we'd have been soaked!

Looking at the 100 mile route in the link in Rich's post I think I'll definitely be liberal in my interpretation of the route 😀

Hey Polisherman, I was hoping one of you would see this. I quite like this photo, your lad rode it nicely as well. Big tyres were a definite help down there. I had a much better time on 4" JJ's than my riding pals did on 2.3s

Paul, Emma, and I were to-ing and fro-ing with you and your lads on the way up and down.

Another way of putting it would be that your lads billygoated past us on the way up like climbing machines who hadn't already done 90-odd Lakes miles!

bigger version if you want it:

Just signed up- really looking forward to it! Rich, do you need me to state which distance I'm going for? Im probably going to go for the 50 mile but if my fitness drive keeps momentum I might just go for the 100. when would you need me to commit?

There are 3 rides which are on 3 different routes at the start so there should be plenty of room for 200 bods.
Had 200 sign up last year but only 160 started 🙄

To be fair, I think a lot of people will have signed up well in advance, not being 100%, but knowing that it's money straight to a good cause whether they turn up or not. I know I did.

Pretty sure I would have said if I hadn't been able to come, but it might be worth repeating nearer the time that space is scarce and people want your space if you can't make it.

Edit: different set-up this year with donations/ tickets, though.

Unfortunately the Schools project has not got charitable status so the just giving was not an option. Eventbrite saves me a lot of hassle of notifying riders and keeping up to date of numbers.
The Hospice will be getting 25% of ticket sales with 75% going on to the Schools project minus the hire of toilets for the Friday campers.
No one will be making money out of this event! maybe the Hawkshead Brewery 🙂
The

Had 200 sign up last year but only 160 started
quote was not a bitch its just the way events go and always an option to let 250 to sign up with a good chance only 200 will start

We've got a tiny human on the way, due not long after, so I might be one of those singing up and seeing what happens nearer the time.

10% no-show is pretty common. These days with on-line event entry being a couple of clicks it's quite common for 20% not to turn up - look at the Ard Rock threads for an example. A local fell race is limited to 400 but the organiser always takes 450 entries because he knows from experience that the actual number on the day will be around 380 - 400.

^^ I have entered a few events to “set a goal” / get fit enough and then find as date approaches I am no where near ready. Allowed event to resell the ticket if possible

Rich looks very tempting (again), just needs fitness (for the 50!), bikepacking gear and a car suitable to transport a bike 😐 of those the first is the most troublesome

Signed up for this. It'll be my first self supported route ride, not sure about whether to go for the 50 or the 100 at the moment - i guess it'll depend on how well I do at the chub club.

Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery are the proud suppliers of beer for the #jennride 🙂

Would be great to see more youngsters coming this is what it looks like on a summers day these are taken on the 50 mile route(remember you don't have to do it all)

We did a little bit of the route on Sunday, basically the Ambleside to Iron Keld descent sort of loop. The coffin road between Rydal and Grasmere has seen "improvements". There's still the bit of hike-a-bike in the middle though.

What an awesome route! Great to meet you Rich, and thanks very much for organising! Really enjoyed the riding - familiar with bits of it, but far from all of it, A shame it rained overnight when I just had a bivi bag. Did about 70miles yesterday, and finished today just before 11.00. Tired, but far from broken.

Highlights

Walna Scar down to Torver. ****in' ace!

Thrashing the descent down through Grizedale in the gloom, barely able to see where I'm going. Had to have a bit of a word with myself afterwards as I was getting carried away, but man, it was fun.

Bimbling along the side of a deserted and still Windermere first thing this morning. Beautiful.

Lows

Pain in the arse Alpkit tailpack that kept coming loose/falling off, even after Alpkit in Ambleside replaced it for me with a brand new one. Many cable ties needed.

Garmin crashing. Good job I'd brought a map!

Seeing Walna Scar and realising quite how far up I still had to go. Worth it for the descent though!

The aforementioned rain.

Putting on yesterdays sodden socks this morning!

Thanks Rich for an incredible weekend. Much harder than last year I thought. The extra ascent and hike-a-bikes really upped the ante, and the heat on Sunday didn't help. The rain in the night was also a challenge, especially for one of our party who didn't bring a tarp with him. I was cursing the push up Walna Scar first thing Sunday morning but then this made it all worthwile... 🙂
