Someone has commented on my new (to me) frame on Pinkbike:
First: something like "you know that's a 456 right?" when I asked what he meant he said: "The top tube on the 456 meets the seat tube in the same place as the seatstays, on the inbred, the TT is slightly lower. For some reason, the early 456's were badged as inbreds (not quite sure why, i think they were known as an "inbred 455" or something)."
I've looked at a few pics and can see what he means - so is he right??
Yep. 456. Top of top tube cable routing and the colour are dead give aways. That's the best 456 colour ever too! 🙂
Good job i got it powder coated the same colour then!:) - (goes of to look for bigger forks)
Thanks btw!
Yeah, there is often confusion with the Inbred, 456, 456 Summer Slacker, due to decals used by On One at various times. Individual decals seemed to get sorted out after Brant left (2009 onwards?). There have been a few classifieds where unknowing people have advertised an Inbred and others have pointed out to the seller what the frame actually is.
This is my 2008 456 Summer Slacker

It was called "that green" I think. There was a blue called "Triggers mums bathroom blue" as well
IIRC there were very few green ones and they were sort of sought after for a time because they were rare.
From memory doesn't the 456 have the same diameter top and down tube?
That's a 456 - you can tell by the pipework being matching sizes.

Yup!
Wasn't "Triggers mums bathroom blue" the original pompino colour?
I had a "that green" 456, it was ace! I bent the rear triangle and bought a "that blue"
One of my fav bikes ever!
Does the 456 have bigger dia tubes, or just thicker ?
summer season not summer slacker
Not bad!
Get the decals off a guy off Ebay and bid him £6 and he will take that! 😉 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ONE-inbred-inbread-bike-frame-sticker-decal-set-ON-1-/230533793149?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item35ace2857d#ht_500wt_719

tk46hal - Geared Scandal?
Thanks TK already ordered them for £11.00 tho 🙁

Yes!
ANDYL! CORRECT.
Aren't we all anoraks! 😀
Lol that's why I double checked on here!

Actually, the new Inbred frames, it seems, since having to be uprated to pass EN testing have the same main tube dimensions (wall and diameter) as the 456's.
According to CRC, it's an Inbred 456. Same colour available even (discontinued now).
Tops, that's a lovely colour!
I've got the EPS file of the stickers if you're interested?
Email me if you want them, in profile 🙂
EDIT
I see you have them already.........! 🙂
This file I have can be manipulated by any graphics company, I had a mate make my C456 stickers from it:

Do you reccomend I helitape over the stickers? Actually I'm thinking not - cheap enough to replace now I've got your details! 🙂
Nice bike BTW!
Nice that
Yeah, top tube and seatstay intersect at same point on seat tube is a 456, Seat stay higher than top tube is Inbred

summer season not summer slacker
Don't know why I called it Summer Slacker, old and confused I guess. 🙂
B.a.nanas bike up there - is that a raw finished steel frame? Looks good, can't see from size of image what the finish is.
jackthedog, yes raw finish, which was all it was available in originally. It was after Brant left that it started to come in multi colours and with ISCG mounts. Despite just a lacquer finish, it hasn't rusted much in 3 years, anymore so than On One frames normally do. Tho it has spent more time on the workstand as various projects being built, than actually ridden.
Barry, yep, that's a normal Inbred. Cable guides UNDER the top tube. 🙂
Ebb 456 sample. 1 of 2?
Chainstay bridge. Is that a CEN thing too?

Older Inbreds had the bridge and IMO much better for it as mine didn't suffer chainsuck.

not sure, could be 2 of 2, this was sold to mark y, english fella in ROI who sold it to me.
it's now like this but mucky:

POSTED 11 HOURS AGO # REPORT-POST
No. Chainstay bridge was an early thing. Abandoned for side gussets as chainstay bridges are a throwback to when people fitted mudguards and can cause cracks to propagate from their weld point around the driveside stay in fatigue.
Same goes for indents on chainstays too.
Working on new chainstay profile for on one. Will probably get Peter Poddy to approve!
B.A.Nana, thanks for the info. Love the raw steel finish, long been one of my favourites since I saw a Gimp with it years back. Surface rust seemed to have started developing under the lacquer, seen the same with a BMX in the same finish, but I guess the same happens with paint - you just don't see it? To be honest I quite liked the rat look once the thing had gone rusty. The antidote to all those preened shiny white immaculate full bouncers out there.
I say out there, I mean on here.

it's my only complaint with my 853 Inbred really, though I applied some dentology to help matters
if you offered the same frame again with a ragley like chainstay I'd be very tempted

The Ragley chain stay solution is ace, but rather weighty. Trying for a bit of ovalisation, bends in the right place, and perhaps a touch less tyre clearance (clearance for Maxxis 2.5's I think is all you really need).

+1, the dentology worked well but taking a hammer to a frame seems wrong.
I would still have the the 853 if that hadn't been an issue. Just picked up a Sanderson Life and looking forward to getting it built.
Always liked "that" green, lovely colour. They were available when I got my (blue) 456 and it's sometimes niggled me that I should have had the other colour. Fantastic bikes, mine had years of (ab)use and is still going strong as my daughters bike since I progressed to an even better (IMO) ti hardtail (one with a more "ace" chainstay design 😉 )

Out of interest is there any way of knowing (frame no?) how "early" a 456 is?

sounds good
