Bought house last year , nice garage, but the garage is so cold ! !
have had new upvc window and rear door put in and a nice thick sectional insulated electric garage door fitted to the front, use it for usual stuff, working on bikes etc and have tv with trainer and zwift etc , but as its winter it is Baltic in there even with a heater blowing a bit or warm air around, other than that there is no heating in there
Its a concrete floor which I'm about to cover with 3mm rubber mats .. so may help
I'm guessing most if not all the heat is going out the roof, its just rafters, with membrane and then tiles.
The rafters are 70 mm deep , so guess i need 70mm deep PIR insulation boards cut to size ? ….Kingspan/Quinn thermal, any other ways to keep some heat in ?

I'd actually be tempted to board the roof space to form a loft and insulate that as you would a loft in a house, then you'll have an extra space for storage that you dont need insulated. Almost halves the space you need to heat and creates usable space that's otherwise dead?

If you put insulation in between the rafters then you need to leave 50mm air flow gap above, which would only mean 25mm of kingspan-better than nothing but not worth the effort in my opinion.

Probably best to put in a secondary ceiling and insulate that, like a standard loft in a house situation.
You could use 100mm x 47mm timbers and fill with 100mm rock wool, then board over and have some extra storage space if required

cheers for the reply's , i wasn't sure about airspace needed etc , so probably not worth it then ? ….. I have some boards across the roof space giving me some storage, but the ceiling joists are only the same size as the rafters etc , so concerned about the weight it would carry, spose i could get some bigger joists put in if needed ?

Why not leave the space behind the joists. Just face fix 50/60mm onto the joists esp if your not using the space . Infact if your not using the space minimise the volume to heat/area to insulate and just being the roof down to your truss span level.

My garage has a similar loft, Mine is 60% boarded but I am going to board the rest and fit hinges/lift out panels to some sections so that I can access when required.

I have the 10mm thick foam tiles on the floor and a brush guard on the door which really help with the temperature.

My garage is similar, installed plasterboard ceiling and then std loft insulation - remember you will need to add ventilation at eaves once you've sealed up the loft space. Easily done with a hole saw & proprietary vents.

Just put 50mm polystyrene between the rafters on mine, tight against the membrane, not had any issues.
