watch

My old man randomly gave me this watch today. He picked it up cheap many years ago, I think it was either done sort of charity shop find or an auction from a deceased estate at the solicitors my ma used to work for

Anyway, can anyone tell if it's a genuine omega? It's a clockwork mechanism (not automatic/kinetic.) There's nothing on the rear of it at all, no marking/serial number.

I'm not expecting it to be worth anything, just wonder if it's worth having cleaned up and keeping.

Various versions, that linked one anything like? I'd definigtely have it tinkered with and cleaned up. Make a lovely smart wear watch.
Obviously opening the case and someone in the know taking a look at the caliber should tell you all you need to know.

It looks very similar, few differences like no numbers and no pattern on the face. If be amazed if it was actually worth something! But like I say, I just wonder if it's worth sorting and using.

Any recommendations of where to send it, or is it a case of taking it to a local jeweller?

There's a few variants knocking about if you search for 50s omega with cross hair sub seconds. I'd personally take it to a good, recommended, local independent jeweller. Looking at just a few examples it's around the 500 quid mark when shiney but it may be some random limited run or such like which may improve its value. As I say an expert will tell you all there is to know and I'm certainly not that man.
Personally I think it deserves a good home and as your dad handed it over it might be nice to now keep in the family?

Yeah if it can be cleaned up nicely I'd like to keep it

There are people who specifically collect those 50-60’s dress watches, I worked with a bloke who was continually buying watches like that and bringing them in to show me. Quite why, I couldn’t say, ‘cos I’ve never been interested in that style of watch.
Omega are a good brand, certainly worth looking into getting it cleaned up and serviced.
