I wondered how long this would take.

You should be able to switch between the two shortly, according to preference. I'm going to amend your subject title otherwise I'm going be spending the rest of the afternoon closing duplicate threads.

I'm happy!

Quoting names without html spaghetti, the forum is complete!

Well maybe move the replies created to somewhere a bit more accessible, other than that, bravo well done chaps! 🙂

Yeah, as suggested in the classifieds thread, announce the bloody changes! This one would have been met with joy and thanks.....

Ok.

I believe that TinyMCE (the previous editor) is probably going to be set as the default editor (which should give Mike something else to whine about). You can switch between this and the new plaintext one with a Settings option under your Account link in the menu bar at the top of the page. For convenience, that setting is here:

Thanks for the personal response.....

As I'm getting such a personal reply service today, how about a sticky on the top of the page saying something like Hey we have made changes to the text editor here is all about it and how to change things....
Or spend the next 5 days deleting duplicate threads, just a time saving idea there.

That wasn't entirely serious. It just feels sometimes like STW could hand out free bags of gold and some bugger would complain that the bag is a bit crappy.

There's little point documenting until the changes are finalised, it could yet change as it's being worked on. Once the dust has settled I'll stick something in one of the stickies unless someone official beats me to it first.

I know that approach to documentation..... It's easy to never finalise stuff
But I'll leave you 2 to post up the link as to how to swap editors every few hours there, is this the thread for bug reports on the new editor then 😉 (as it's still being tested 😉 )

It took 10 years for the new forum so that’s pretty good going.

and just so I can be accused of whinging some more....

Use Fancy Editor
When posting in the forum you have a choice of using the fancy editor box that automates things like links and images and offers a set of useful formatting options, or to use the simpler, text only editor with shortcode options (a bit more techy). You can change this setting as much as you wish and see which you prefer.

Yes

It reads fine as Use Fancy Editor? - YES? (Tickbox)
But the rest of the text leads to a Fancy or Simple Question not a yes/no - and yes some of my day is spent writing data input stuff and options setting templates, and yes this is exactly the sort of thing I end up doing without realising it until somebody asks me, so suggestion either stick the tick box above it or make the answer more generic

Its all different for me. See if it works, but why change it ?

why is there a “tradition” of riding shitty bikes over the winter period?

Yeah works but again why change.

The new simple text one.

Crikey, works much better even just trying to to in and text from Android/chrome.

I got back and now have the plain text one without doing anything. I.e. NOT TinyMCE. I'll head to my preferences if it dares change back 😜

Seems to have defaulted to plaintext editor for me, though settings page says fancy one is on. I'd prefer plaintext though, but shortcut buttons for the codes has B-QUOTE for blockquote which is different output to a quote. Just trying it out...

Ah, it seems to work now here. Came out monospaced on another post.

Still though, can we not have auto quote when you hit 'reply' instead of it just jumping to the edit box empty?
