Anyone found the best pressures?   I'm using tubes at the moment and found 50psi a little draggy on the road.  I'm trying 60psi tomorrow - anyone else find the ideal?

Which ones and tubes or tubeless?

40mm bites here and had them up about 60-80 for pure road with tubes, closer to 50/55 now. Less for off road mixed up stuff.

35mm ones seemed ok yesterday at 60psi

I use ~40/45PSI for 2.35" for ~90%+ tarmac with tubes on 20mm internal rim width wheels, if I'm spending more time off-road then I'll drop the pressures to ~30/40PSI.

60-65psi on road for me, 35-40 off road. Using 38mm tubeless.

36psi off road rear. 34 front.

Max is actually 40psi on my grail rims.

Tubeless.

G-One Allround Evo 35c: 50psi f/r for road and 30psi f/r for gravel. Mixed terrain will likely get something in between.

Running tubeless and these are remarkably un-draggy tyres on/off road. Did a 1hr road loop with a friend on his road bike pushing 20mph avg and they still felt good! Amazing rubber.

Cheers all.   I was due a 6am ride this morning but frankly couldn’t be arsed.   They at sitting at 60psi, I’ll be giving them a go on Thursday.

In an effort to work out the speed differential I weighed the bike yesterday.  My “good” bike is 8.3kg and Carbon, this was advertised at 9.3kg and is Alu, and with cages and the LH crank missing 9.3KG it was.  It feels much heavier than the 1kg difference suggests to pick up, weird.

That may well give you that draggy feel, on my grail which is about 8.6 they feel quicker than they should. Few times a mate has popped out from behind me to realise its a head wind not me being sluggish. On a rolling test another day they were close to some cheap slicks so it could well be perception going on.

there are a lot of factors, rim width & your weight being the biggest two. hard to give advice other than experience but unless your numbers match the rider giving the advice the advice is pretty useless

700x38 here & 40psi everywhere... absolute beasts of tyres, just no good in thick mud or wet grass IME

You mean where's the G-Spot?

Psi figures are useless without knowing the weight of the rider.

Given there are multiple versions of the same tyre about its all a bit vague, not sure which one kryton is riding either

That's a good comment, and I intended to add it and forgot: 85kg, assuming I've not spent the weekend eating all of the pies. I'm quite a "light" rider (i.e. I don't crash into every obstacle, but try to avoid / lift / jump where I can) so tend to get away with lower pressures.

35mm Performance RG and I'm 76.5KG.

35mm Performance RG

As you may be aware, that's the most basic G-One variant, "Evo" are better (officially tubeless ready) and lower rolling resistance IIRC.

So with an estimated ~90Kg for everything going on a bike ride including some water on these tyres/bike and presuming they measure 35mm wide in the real world, the FastFitnessTips pressure guide spreadsheet reckons ~41/63PSI for mixed quality road , ~43/66 for smooth road and ~37/56 for rough gravel.

That narrows it down, thanks.

The tyres were OEM, I may as well wear them out this winter before getting new ones.

The tyres/bike is definately slower.  Today I did this ride:   https://www.strava.com/activities/1883691530 which despite me being fitter and stronger than 2013 when several PB's were set on my normal road bike, I'm about 10% slower on some targeted segments.

I'm going too do this exact same circuit on my road bike at the same time next week so the comparison will be interesting.

However this Gravel bike feels much more like a "tank" to ride - solid and weighty compared to my more flighty road bike.  I need to remember why I bought it, and thats to have some mixed terrain ability which I got through the brook at the end of that ride, and its stability which actually is quite amazing - I took some blind bends on the bottom of hills today that have me using the brakes on the road bike, totally committed no brakes.   Horses for course and all that...

Is your "form" (fitness-fatigue) comparable between the 2013 ride and today?

Does www.mywindsock.com give comparable wind direction and strength for the two rides?

You have a power meter on today's ride, did you have a power meter on the 21013 ride? That would at least counter wind variation and any aero reduction from group riding.

Terrain in similar dry/damp state?

etc.

I’m about 10% slower on some targeted segments.

You will probably be more than 10% faster on the rough stuff.

Question really is what is acceptable for a bigger rubber, more versatile bike.

I take your point nobodyofthegoat.  But a 25kmph Average on the road for that distance is unusual for me.  I’d have considered 27/28kmph to have been average and with others posting on there that the are keeping up with roadies it surprises me.   I’ll be needing to Average 30kmph on Saturday to keep up with the club ride

Mikewsmith you are correct - if you look at my ride there are some second fastest segments near the end - that’s when I was riding on a gravel/dirt brook and was navigating walkers too.

Im not unhappy with the bike just intrigued.
