You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So my current Contract phone has packed up, looks like it can't connect to the mobile network, but finds WiFi just fine.
In need of a functioning phone so I retrieved my old Xperia X Compact from the bottom of a drawer, factory reset and a charge later and I'm loving having a smaller phone again.
Contract is up in September and the battery is not going to be great on this ancient Sony, so something newer will be sourced (new or refurb perhaps) but what's the options by way of a more compact phone these days? Certainly doesn't need to be bleeding edge or really new. But dinky phones are appealing to me again.
Not sure how dinky you mean but I went for an iPhone 12 mini for that reason. Definitely fits in pockets and the like more easily than the big XR model I had from work.
Downside is lighter, smaller phone = smaller battery = lower battery life.
edit - good deal as well from MusicMagpie

If it's failed within contract then you're into the realms of "satisfactory quality" under CRA and I'd be asking the provider to replace it.

A cursory examination would make it clear that the issue was the user not the materials or workmanship.

This thing has a 4.6" screen and is genuinely small, like slightly more than wallet sized, I certainly think I want something sub 6" next, which I don't think is very common any more unless you go for a proper potato...

How did you break it in a manner that prevents it connecting to the mobile network? Did it pack in after an acute deceleration trauma?
Several knocks really, something is loose inside, screen periodically decides not to work until firmly thumped on the left/top. Plus there's a chip out of the screen.
I could go to a dodgy phone shop and get it fixed, but no time for that now and I've become temporarily smitten with this mini phone... So I want something new and dinky, which doesn't really exist anymore does it.
I got an iPhone as it was the smallest smartphone I could find
Fair enough.
And, no, not really. There was a thread asking this same question like last week or so. It's been a gap in the market for ages.

Yes there was and I posted the same link I already did in this thread.
Yeah that Cubot website does look a bit dodgy but their products are knocking about online both the 4" pocket phone and some slightly larger ones... Might give them a whirl actually what's the worst that could happen?
When I wanted the same, I managed to get a startlingly good trade in deal for my own phone against a Samsung Z fold which is performing great. Downside of the small footprint is that it's a bit thick when folded. Wouldn't have gone for it full price mind, way too spendy! Worth considering if you can get it at a price you're willing to pay.
Pretty hard to get a smaller phone at the moment, but I get around it by holding it further away.
I also wanted a smaller phone. Sony xperia XZ1 Compact is about the perfect size but the one I was using was just getting a bit flaky on battery and (especially) GPS. Given that I also wanted a decent camera, the only "name" phones I could find about that size were:
Google Pixel 4a (had just been withdrawn from sale when I was looking, though there is a brand new one on clssifieds right now. Also, android support life is only about 3 years after end of sale)
Samsung Galaxy S22
iPhone 13 mini (12 also available but 13 has a better camera and a much longer support life - apple will suport for 7 years following end of sale)
I ended up with iPhone 13 mini, after years of being on Android. It's nice and the camera is noticeably beter but there are little niggles like the keyboard is HORRIBLE. Oh, and it's blooy expensive to buy, but then it was cheaper than then Samsung S22 and as long as i keep it for a while it will work out.
