Christmas present from my daughter and her partner. They live in Bristol and are always brining me samples from the city's breweries to try. Some of these I've had before, and some are new. Wiper &True, Left handed giant, Arbor, Good chemistry brewing. It's a tough life!

What beer are you drinking?

Just heading to bar but currently finishing a Hobgoblin. Want to watch the footy but too tired to be arsed driving.

I'm hoping for a nice cold, crisp IPA at the bar

Looks interesting. What brewery is that? I see the Vocation glass but doesn't look like one of their brews. Not wholly convinced about glitter as a brewing ingredient mind...

Punk IPA is my 'cooking beer' a reliable supermarket go to when I've drunk all my 'posh' beer. At 19p a can I'd have hired an artic!

It's from my local, Beermats Brewing Co.

Yeah the glitter thing is obviously a novelty, and I wouldn't drink it all the time, but it's a nice drinkable IPA which added a bit of festive sparkle.

A kind customer gave me a selection of Cromarty brewery finest last week.

Came in hungry this afternoon after a day tramping around and quaffed an AKA IPA. Narcotic goodness 🙂

Helles lager and wheat beer for later.

Their strong wheat beer is tremendous too.

it was so obviously a mis-price (packs of 24 for the price of 4) that I didn't think I'd get any. I just kept hitting + until i reached free shipping amount then went through checkout fast (as I figured they'd run out). Its only when they arrived that I realised quite how many there were

it was actually the gluten free punk, which was a bit of a gable, but turned out to be nicer than the normal stuff

Well that was slightly disappointing.

Doom Bar, morreti, strongbow

I mostly had Strongbow but whilst it was ok, it wasn't exactly my preference

Makes you all sparkly the following morning!

(Not convinced about more micro-plastics being added deliberately to the sewage system though)

Fear not, it's made with Gum Arabic (hardened tree sap) and tylose powder (cellulose based)

Loads of beer and wine left but not sure I can be arsed drinking much/any of it!

A few days absistence now I think, until NY.

I've not even drunk that much - exercised a pretty high degree of self control Xmas eve /Xmas day /boxing day so quite pleased with myself this year.

Worth it too. Had an absolutely awesome, awesome ride yesterday morning.

I probably wouldn't have if I'd spent the past few days hammering drinks down.

Whatever's on the guest pumps in my favourite local pubs. Or, at home, Hawkshead Mosaic or Proper Job in bottles.

Beer in cans is substandard no matter how much you pay for it or how niche it is.

S'funny how individual experiences of the same things can differ so much, and that's OK. I agree that draught beer in a nice pub is always preferable but sometimes that's not an option.

Cans V bottles. Some bottle conditioned bitters can be OK but IPAs, stronger or very hoppy ones in particular always taste better in cans than bottles imo. Totally disagree that all cans are "substandard". There are some superb offerings from small brewers that you can only sample that way if you don't live near the brewery or tap house.

Proper Job in bottles.

Proper Job is a good example of an IPA that doesn't taste great in a bottle IME. It's a very enjoyable beer on draught but I think there are far superior canned IPAs than bottled PJ.

Each to their own though, no rights or wrongs in this, just personal taste 🙂

Foods good though. Eaten there plenty.

McEwan's Champion in bottles is absolutely gorgeous, but in a can it's barely drinkable - desperation stakes only.

We seem to have an overflow of beer at the moment.

Got a good selection from various different brewery's including Tiny Rebel, Tartarus, Tempest, Thornbridge and some interesting colabs from Project X.

Mostly Imperial Stouts, DIPA's and Marshmallow Porters.

I haven’t started on my Tiny Rebel Sleigh Pufts or the selection box - will be some treats in the New Year…

My sister in law is a sales rep for Adnams in Southwold, she put together a bespoke stocking of the various beers and other goodies they are currently looking at marketing, an excellent present that i will enjoy.

Also, bought myself the Brewdog Advent calendar that i have slowly been working my way through over the Christmas period. It wasnt cheap but enjoyed the surprise of a Brewdog treat every day, would probably buy it again!

My stash, a combination of mostly those I bought, plus a few I was given, go thus:

Newcastle Brown

Dartmoor Jail Ale/Legend

Butcombe Adam Henson Rare Breed

Otter Ale

Bath Gem

Wye Valley Butty Bach

Salcombe Shingle Bay

Timothy Taylor Landlord

Robinson Trooper

Theakston Old Peculiar

Corinium Mosaic/Centurion/Bodicca

Stroud Tom Long/Easy Peasy/Big Cat

It might be noted that a significant number of those originate in the South-West of England.

At the moment I’m drinking the Tom Long, and very good it is too.

I thought there was a Christmas beer thread on here, I hadn’t realised it was eleven months ago! High time I resuscitated it for this year. Mainly because my mates nephew has a brewery in Bradford-on-Avon, and they had a little ticketed event this evening where you could sample various of their brews. Ten quid got you four tickets and you could sample various combinations or just have a couple of pints. I tried four halves…

The Skyline Saison, the Caroline Double IPA…

The Alchemy Gruit Ale and the Outline Amber Ale.

And we were given a can of this when we left…

The Saison and the Double IPA are outstanding! Very, very flavourful, the Outline is an excellent session ale, the Alchemy is brewed using whatever herbs the head gardener from the nearby Wooley Grange hotel has available, so changes it’s character every time it’s a new brewing. They have a small shop and outlet store in Corsham, and they do refillable mini-casks, so a bus ride over next week should see me well set up for Christmas. A cask each of the Caroline and the Saison should see me through a day or two, the Belgian Tripel I think I’ll be drinking in shot glasses!

Went over to Kettlesmith’s little bar/outlet shop/cafe earlier to pick up a supply of beer for the actual holiday season, and came home with these…

That’s four litres of the Caroline Double IPA, and these speak for themselves…

We have about 50 bottles of Mantle Brewery’s (from Cardigan) beers to get through. Guess who got carried away at the brewery!

Also have 2 boxes from a Beer 52 subscription to catch up on.

Holy thread resurrection! As the OP from last year I am ashamed to say my beer cellar is looking very spartan at the moment. My daughter and her fella are coming to ours from Brizzle for Christmas, so I might put a Wiper & True order in. Other than that at this stage it will be whatever I can get locally. Ludlow brewery is my most local but I'm not a huge fan. Salopian brewery in Shrewsbury do a few really interesting beers so I'll be grabbing a few of those, then some staples from Hobson's in Cleobury Mortimer. My beer provisioning plans are all to pot this year!

@CountZero

Bloody hell that's a blast from the past "Wooley Grange" I stayed there Christmas 1989, it was the most lavish time I think I have ever had. Not sure if its still the same owners but bloody hell they really pulled out all the stops.

No beer for me AFAIK this Christmas but I did get my Sister in Law & her husband a selection pack from my local brewery

Honestly, you can’t go wrong with W&T, they make an outstanding brew! Kettlesmith have a bunch of other brands in the fridge in the shop, including W&P, they’re not afraid to sell other brands as well as their own.

@MrOvershoot - it’s not a place I’m familiar with, other than the name, but this part of the world has a lot of similar high quality establishments, it’s slightly unusual in that they’re supplying herbs from their garden to a small local brewery. I tried the Alchemy, but I didn’t notice anything special about it, but apparently because it was a pre-Christmas ticketed event and had to be set up earlier in the day, the cooling system was a bit over enthusiastic and chilled it a bit too much, so the subtleties of the herbs were a bit lost. I’ll give it a try in their shop, now I’ve got a loyalty card… 😉
