Hi All,

Has anyone ordered bike stuff from Lordgun Cycles or R2 bikes?

https://www.lordgunbicycles.co.uk
https://r2-bike.com

I'd like to order some Formula Cura SRAM mixmaster clamps and they have in stock at a reasonable price including delivery to the UK.

I can't find any UK shops with them in stock. Just checking if there is any feedback on them and if items really were received in the 2-7 days they claim.

My order total is only ~£40 so under the customs limit etc. so I'm not concerned about taxes etc just whether the shops are legit and shipping times are accurate.

thank you

Tons from R2 in the last couple of months - every one received as expected, with water bottle and haribo chucked in.

Have you tried Paul at Elro Distribution?
He's the new UK Formula Importer.

I’ve ordered from R2. On one occasion some parts were missing from some fancy Oak Technology levers I bought and they sorted it very efficiently so I’m giving them a thumbs up.

r2 are great, I've ordered loads from them

Also never been charged for customs, although I always stay under £136 (inc. postage) or whatever the limit is

R2 have been very good for the stuff I've ordered, not used them for over a year, but were very good when I did.

Thanks @singlespeedstu, didn't realise Formula had someone in the UK now, prices are a bit more than from European sellers but hopefully delivery is quicker.

Thanks to the others, will keep those shops in mind for next time.

How are the Oak levers? The MT7s can be had cheaply these days, makes it all quite tempting

Ordered from Lordgun recently (stuff that wasn't available in UK).

Was under £139 so no unpleasant additional charges, postage took a bit longer though and I got some weird emails from Italian postal service, don't know if there was a strike or something.

Would use again but not for time critical stuff.

Lordgun weird name though innit. Always makes me pause.

Still we probably said the same for 'Wiggle' once upon a time.

I used R2 the other week for the first time and was very impressed with how quickly the items turned up.

Used r2bike during my summer holiday. They took bloody ages ( not really, but much longer than the swift guys) to dispatch my order.

Which meant that by the time it arrived and I unpacked it and realised it was the wrong thing I didn't have time to send it back for a refund.

So yeah pretty good, but nothing like as swift as merlin Crc or any of the other same/ next day dispatchers.

Yes to Lord Gun, bought some drivetrain bits. no issues.

I find it odd that a .co.uk shop is based in Italy. I suppose if you want to return items it will cost a little more in postage

FWIW I had to put a warranty claim in through Lordgun, it was dead easy too (didn’t make me send the item back)

Got an XX1 cassette off Lordgun when I couldn't find a single one in the UK. Although I had to pay the Brexit tax to DHL before delivery, it arrived on time and was actually about £50 cheaper than buying one in the UK - if I could have found any at the time that is!! I doubt the deals will be as sweet now, with GBP hitting rock bottom, but I couldn't fault the service.

@honourablegeorge I very much recommend the Oak levers on MT7 brakes, they're really very good, and much better than the standard levers. I haven't compared them to a Magura upgrade lever.

Not sure I would recommend MT7 over anything else though, if you were buying from scratch.

Good. I like the feel of the standard one finger levers but like the Oak levers even more. Their real plus is the adjustment they allow though.

It is a lot of money to add to a new set of brakes and I’m not sure I could justify it, maybe a set of MT5 would make for a more realistic price?

R2 were amazing... their website is shite though...

I ordered some forks from them when they had an amazing deal of Lyrik Ultimates and due to the crap website (basically lists every option possible in colour/offset/wheel/damper) I ordered the wrong thing and ended up with some selects ordered late on a weekend evening.

I emailed them hoping they might actually do something but not overly hopeful... and 0800 UK (0700 Germany) I got an email saying they had intercepted the forks, exchanged for the ultimates and sent it with the courier and "would I please pay the 22 Euro (or something like that difference)".

@jairaj

+1 for Paul at Elro - formula dealer. Actually just posted this morning about it!

Formula UK

I ordered brakes on Saturday, they arrived sunday. He even lanelled them “Volvo Genuine Parts” to avoid questions from Mrs S. 😁😁😁

And price wise, actually cheaper than from Europe.

Don't think mine did last time. I think I've a delivery from them today, but parcelforce, so we'll see what happens.

first order was about £50, todays is £130.

I've used R2 several times recently, all my stuff under £100, no extra fees at all, apart from currency conversion to pounds might be diddling a few quid but that's not R2 or DHL's fault.
Don't agree with stevextc,
I find their site a pleasure to use, even more so now after CRC's howler of a revamp, and I appreciate the fact they show the weight of items on a digital scale, it's a nice n helpful touch along with some of their prices being amazing lately, ordering a few items takes the sting out of the postage but you can't really complain considering its coming from Germany, currently R2-bike and Biketart are getting most of my custom.

order delivered earlier, no problem. took just under a week to get to me, no additional charges.

I too like their website, ordering stuff by weight, for a mid level weigtweenie like me is so good.

got a 'free' waterbottle and a small pack of haribo too in the delivery too.

140€ to deliver a 'test basket' brake disc here. Must have got Wiggle's IT team in.

R2 appear to have stopped the customs free orders under £135 so you're now getting VAT free prices but having to pay it all here instead, along with customs and handling charges.

Looks like R2 have set a min of 160 euros order value Inc shipping so the shipping cost is whatever it takes to get the basket over 160. And of course 160 euro orders will get clobbered for customers - looks like R2 don't want our business any more.

Saw that a few days ago - not a mistake if you read the shipping page:

The minimum order value for GB is 160 € incl. shipping costs (standard 7,50 €, bulky goods 27,50 €), for NO it is 265 € (shipping costs: standard 12,50 €, bulky goods 32,50 €). For baskets below the minimum order value, the shipping costs will be adjusted accordingly, so that the total is at least 160 € (GB) or 265 € (NO).

Seems to be the same (worse) on bike-discount.de:

For customers from Great Britain there is a minimum order value of 175 GBP incl. shipping costs. Unfortunately, it is currently not possible to ship complete bicycles and bulky goods to the UK.

Brexit just keeps giving..!

That's them aligning to the tightened customs rules that you lot all voted for.

Complete set of bar stewards, back to CRC, Biketart and Merlin, although they've been pretty decent lately, Biketart especially getting a lot of my custom recently, loyalty point schemes are always a bonus.

Yeah - it was a bit of an odd situation - as far as I could tell I wasn't paying VAT on the R2 stuff which is what made it relatively cheap.

I did think that the overseas sellers were supposed to register for VAT and pay it under EUR160-ish? Presumably that has either come into force now, or is being more stringently enforced, and R2 etc can't be arsed to register, so now just sell >EUR160 baskets and leave it to customs to sort out.

I guess the VAT party had to come to an end, but definite pain in the ass that it's resulted in almost all sellers dropping out of the <160 market. R2 etc often had stock or stuff that you just couldn't get here.

...bit of thread resurrection as its been a while since the last post (and from the last few posts looks like R2 are a no-go now)

So anyone more recently ordered from Lord Gun? Some keen prices and I aiming for under £135 but not such a bargain if I get stung on additional charges

Had a couple of items from Lordgun in the past couple of weeks. Both arrived quickly, complete and on time. Postage was a bit dear, but service no different to any UK based suppliers (for items under £135 at any rate).

Would use again.

Used lordgun before Xmas. There was a small delivery upgrade option which I ticked and took only 48 hours from order to arrival. Was very surprised. Order under £120 so no taxes etc

I ordered once from Lordgun and wouldn't use them again. They may be fine for other stuff but in my instance I found they sell dodgy miss-advertised weird spec OE versions of Selle Italia saddles that are not the same materials used in the normal retail versions. Trying to return anything is a convoluted process and their customer service responds like some sort of early gen Ai. I couldn't work out if they were being intentionally obstructive or just generally incompetent to deter anyone from seeking a refund... their trustpilot reviews confirm I'm not the only one. They sell cheap, but cheap comes with reasons.

I actually used r2 bike last week for some products I couldn't source elsewhere, probably luck more than anything, but I didn't get charged any fees.
