Looking for a faster rolling summer tyre to replace the 2.3" DHR2 on my newish 29er. Had a 2.3" one on the old 650b and liked it, just wondering if the 2.5" is worth the weight penalty.
Also need to decide if double down or insert is the way to go for a Pyrenees trip.
Ive replaced a 2.3 with a 2.5WT ( both exo) which has loads more grip, doesn't feel any slower.
2.5 WT DD Aggressor is my go to rear tyre until it gets a bit sloppy out.
Personally I'd run a DD all the time but defo in the Pyrenees

Sounding good for the 2.5. It's either a DD or an insert of some description, trying to keep weight down as much as possible as we have 7000 metres of ascent over 6 days!
2.3 for me. Surely if you want loads of grip you dont go for an aggressor . It's meant to give you enough grip but be fast rolling. If it's sandy or loose where you a griffin is also decent.
2.5 at lower pressure on rear doesnt have the support in hard cornering i find, plus it will be draggy as hell
Just back from the pyrenees and pretty sure I was the only one of 11 plus 4 guides not to puncture... I had a 2.5 DD aggressor out back.
That said, I don't think the Aggressor is a particularly good tyre. If I could find a 2.4 WT DHR2 in DD I'd have that instead. Aggressor doesnt roll any faster than a DHR2(Maxxis catalogue actually lists it as slower rolling) and the braking grip is crap.

I’ve always found the aggressor 2.3 quicker rolling than the Dhr2 2.3. Both in exo / 3c.
It’s noticeably a little bit harder towards the end of the drier season when I take off the aggressor and put back on the dhr2 - even on dry trails.
Ive not tried the 2.5 aggressor, but the 2.4wt dhr2 was monumentally draggy that I had on the bike over the winter. Actually going to sell it and get another 2.3 dhr2 as I rate that for wet weather.
Hans Dampf supergravity?
I've just fitted the snakeskin (non supergravity) and it's much faster rolling than the HR2 2.4 that was on the back before.
Supergravity plus lightish insert (Rimpacts are light) would be my choice for mountains
we have 7000 metres of ascent over 6 days!
I think this might clinch it for the 2.3in, for me.
As above the new Hans Dampf Supergravity is my current favourite rear. Fast rolling, very tough and copes OK in the slop too. Been pretty durable too, just showing real wear after six months use.
I can vouch for the 2.5 Aggressor being a slow roller, stick with the DHR!
