In typical social media way the current trend of posting 10yr apart profile pics has moved to bikes, let's see yours....

So here's mine

Bike Old

Bike current

The Enduro was 3 years old, 10 years ago, great bike for the time.

Intense is 3 years old now, I'll be going in a few months (probably). It's a great all-rounder, I haven't kept more than 1 bike at a time for years.

10 years ago I was really into my XC racing and big Scottish mountains but didn't really have a full suspension trail/enduro bike. The Anthem was great, it took me to a lot of podiums but was also great on normal trails. It was fast, light and fun.

The Evil was just the best at the time - it was one bike that did everything, from normal XC rides to the DH trails at Innerleithen. Nowadays I think I'd be amazed at just how tiny it was.

Now I have a Transition Patrol Carbon which I use for my big mountain adventures. It's massive, long and stable and fast. I also have a Trek Stache that's build up with some light kit so I can take it XC racing this summer with normal 29" wheels on it, but I also take it to Inners in the winter and ride normal trails on it. It's a ridiculously good bike, far better than it looks. I've had both for just over 2 years, which is a long time by my standards, and I don't think I'll get rid of them any time soon.

Intense Socom. It was actually straight too. And only a couple of pounds heavier than the RAAW. It was a large, and was actually tiny, as were all DH bikes back then.

Socom

SC Blur 4X. My first non DH bike. Despite it being far too small for me, I loved it. Look at that saddle, a work of art.

Blur

Newest, although I still have my Fuel 9.9, no pictures of it though.

Raaw

10 years ago I was riding my beloved Kinesis XC120 and it was already 3 years old at this point! Oh the days of only having one bike!

Nowadays I split my riding between these two and a gravel/road bike

2019:
Riding a steel hardtail with Pikes

2*9 -> 1*10
QR -> Dropper
26 -> 29
680 bars -> 780

But aside from that not a great deal has changed.
In the meantime I have had 3 other steel hardtails with a variety of wheel sizes, tyre widths and fork travel (or lack thereof).

No pics,sorry.
2009. Evil sovereign. At the time it was awesome! I took it all over the country and rode it loads locally ( peak district ). However I built it back up last year in a fit of nostalgia and it was terrifyingly small and twitchy compared to modern stuff, which leads to...
2019. Nordest Bardino modern geo hardtail. Just better in every way!

Same bike basically apart from new shock, saddle, brakes and rebuilding wheel and forks (and consumable replacement). On the other hand I was much fitter and more tanned 🙁 Just sold this frame after picking it up in Marin (county) all those years ago- feeling quite nostalgic.

2008 (after descending Monarch's Crest and then doing the road climb back up). Saddle needs adjustment

Just realised, it's had the same BB all that time. One of those Shimano splined ones.

My On-one 29er commuting hardtail will be 12 years old this spring; does that count..?
At 3-4 thousand miles of road and hill commute each year, there's not much in the way of original components left on it, although the front wheel is still original and the headset is now 15 years..

Interesting thread, like the experimentation of epicylo. Think I must be getting too old for this, as I have my same bikes from 10 years ago,On One SS, Cotic Solaris (I am the only one alarmed by modern Solaris head angle / front fork hanging out there?). And still have my 88 Stumpy (a road bike now) and 99 Merlin (most wall art) but I still have my Brian Rouke from 79... so clearly troubled with letting go...

From this:

Boardman HT Pro

to this:

The Boardman HT Pro was well over budget as a returning MTBer and I thought I’d ride it for ages. Then a frame swap to a Cotic Soul happened two years later, then the usual upgrades. Then a Banshee Spitfire joined in as my first full-sus.

Then the Soul was replaced by a Bird Zero AM. Then the Spitfire frame swapped to a bigger newer one. And the eMonster Truck just joined the party.

The Boardman has just been donated for sale to a local bike charity after a good few years as a toddler transporter.

Never had such a chunky frame, but somehow I snapped this one.

Never had such a garish thing as this

Loads of other bikes inbetween and around those, but now I have a slightly simpler approach
