So I’m going down the Zwift route to help me keep my fitness levels during the winter months as the older I get the more difficult it is to get back to where I want to be.
I have an iPad but would prefer to watch it on a tv on the wall so how can I do that? I dont have a laptop or pc but think I read somewhere you can use Apple TV to do that, if that’s the case do I have to pay for Apple TV? Also can someone recommend a nice quiet fan that doesn’t cost the earth?
Tia.

An apple TV will run zwift on its own. You'd not need the iPad in that case (though it might be able to run the companion app). Don't know if you would need a apple TV subscription though.

Apple TV is the device and, confusingly, Apple TV+ is the subscription TV service - you don’t need that to use other apps (including Zwift) on the device

Lightning-HDMI adapter is what I use. £49 well spent.

I'd highly recommend this fan,

https://www.cleva-uk.com/products/vacmaster-cardio54-fan

Quiet enough on setting 1 and 2 and setting 3 will really push air when you need it. Has a handlebar mounted remote control which is great. I've tried various fans but this one really ticks all the boxes. There are cheaper options but this is really worth the extra money (unlike the Kickr headwind 🙂 )

As ballsofcottonwool says, that cable will get you up and running. You’ll need to keep the iPad handy as you’ll need to press it for power ups etc, but other than that a relatively cheap and effective approach.

It would, but £50 for a cable 😳
BT Shop are doing b-grade Apple TV 4K for £130 at the moment (although they have been less than that in the past, think I paid £109 for one before)

That fan @feed linked looks like cleva's vacmaster air mover with a remote. The power and air volume move is identical. I need a new fan so tempted to give one a whirl. Now is the remote worth it.....

From this post it is the same fan with a remote (post from the manufacturer) https://www.trainerroad.com/forum/t/uk-users-looking-for-a-lasko-fan-check-this-out-thanks-to-hugo1/9554/485

But I noticed the normal version has 5 years warranty Vs 2 of the remote version. Decision made. I do not need a remote 😆.

I've got the normal version of the air mover and I'm happy enough to just get off and adjust the speed as needed (or ask the wife to do it). I can definitely see the benefit of the remote version if you're racing though.

Racing I'd just have it on full. Once I'm up to temp need all the airflow I can get.

@nixie

just get the normal one an a £10 smart plug...
then you can leave it on power 3, and turn it on/off with phone/alexa...

Like you..once i'm warmed up i leave it on full..

I have the basic cleva vacmaster and the one with the remote. I used the standard one on setting 2 with an Alexa voice control plug which was fine for 50% of the time. Having the remote control on the handlebar is sooooo much better though. Definitely worth the extra cash imho.

Appears the N+1 also applies to fans as well!

For Sure, and I've more than 2 🙂

You have to have the right fan for the Zwift course\session, DH fan, XC fan, gravel fan, race fan, workout fan.......

That vacmaster fan looks good. I've currently got one of these:

https://www.argos.co.uk/product/4585325

which has done OK for the last year or so. Remote control is a broom handle to turn it on at the plug once I've warmed up.

my fan setup is..

2 'honeywell' fans on max, connected to a smart plug.
We'll call that 'stage 1'.. used for warming up, and for low intensity parts...
Constant medium flow of air from L+R, either side of the monitor..

1 vacmaster, on full, connected to a smart plug.
Stage 2...
Set on the floow at 45degrees.. a few feet in front of the bike.
Full air flow for the remainder of the rides..

NICE!! I still get hot at times...

Arrived today. Quieter than I was expecting. Not significantly quieter than the old fan but the lap of blade tip noise makes a difference in the tone of the noise. Not as big as I was expecting but seems to have plenty of air flow. Need to work out the best position now (on floor in front of bike at the moment). Feels like it will be less affected by air movement in the room than the old one. ZRL TTT tonight for a proper test.

Anyone got a link for the cable please? Don’t mind paying 50 quid if it does the job.

Here you go: https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MD826ZM/A/lightning-digital-av-adapter

As noted above, it's expensive for what it is but it provides a solution that works out cheaper than others, assuming you've already got a monitor/TV with a HDMI connector.

I've used different cables and adaptors in the past, all of them a bit flakey...some will charge sometimes, some even just stop working.

Eventually stumped up for the Apple one and not had an issue since.
