Is there any way to configure Zwift to automatically update (on Windows 10 PC), when a new update becomes available and the PC and/or Zwift is otherwise idle?

Offically supported methods would be better but there's quite a few unofficial hacks out there so I'll consider anything!

Three times in my last four rides I've had to wait what seems like forever for the updates to download then install.

At least for v1.19, their support team pushed out a warning email because the update was so big and I did that update when I wasn't intending to Zwift (I think it took about 45 minutes to download and install).

Anyway, apart from that one update on Nov 18, there's been a couple of unannounced updates which have to be installed and it's bloody annoying when you've only got a short time slot or need to get riding for a race

(And why you can't be taken directly to the event route on login rather than being bounced into the default world is beyond me!)

Anyway, not what I expect for $19 CDN per month so I'm also looking for Zwift alternatives in case this update issue can't be resolved...

(Note: I'd sorta be happy with some advanced notification because I'm working from home so I can also trigger the update process during a quiet period of the day...)

No hacks for the updates, but yeh it's a pain. As a result I always turn it in well in advance of any rides for updates (usually seem to be a Monday) and then leave it on the pairing page until I ride and turn on the turbo and HRM

RGT is worth a try, not as busy as Zwift which I like TBH and it doesn't make me feel sick descending either as it slows you down for corners.

Updating can still be a pain in the arse though.

I've not waited more than 2 mins for the last dozen updates, mostly somewhere in the 20-30s.

However there is a new world, which could be the reason for a longer update.

Yes, the new world was pushed out on Nov 18 and that took a very long time to download and install but there's been two un-annouced updates since. Ive got a 300Mbps internet so if you're downloading stuff in 20-30 seconds, your pipe must be huge (oooeeer vicar!)

30mbps here and I'd agree that most updates are pretty quick. Perhaps a minute at most.
The recent Neokyo update took longer (and then failed on my laptop 😂) but it's normally not too much of a pain.

My Android tablet wanted to update before yesterday's race, but that gives you the option to do it later for a certain number of days which I didn't realise and was welcome to see.

Nope, pretty slow here in honesty... but i've not noticed any issues at all.

I think tablets/android download stuff differently, my android seems longer if i ever use it... my laptop flies through the updates though.

The big update took less than 10 minutes on my 6 year old laptop, 35 Mbps download speed. Doing the same for my Surface Go (v1, so only just runs Zwift) was double that.

Was your machine trying to do something else at the same time, e.g. a scan or another update? Processing power seems to be a factor in update installation speed.

But yes - it's very annoying.

Same experience as weeksy - updates take 2-3 mins max on my laptop and I’m on 100mb. I’ve been using Zwift since 2019 so have seen few updates and new worlds.

That would be Netflix then.

Can't say I have any real issues with the updates on a reasonably modern machine, they did take ages on the old one though. But as above no auto update feature.

If needs be, just set it to auto launch at boot and it should pick up the updates for you.

If this is genuinely a huge issue, schedule a task so Zwift launches every day at 2am (as it should automatically apply an update if there is one?) and then quits say an hour later.
Or get an AppleTV 😀

Mine never updates automatically. Don't get a message to tell me there is an update, or any emails about it. Have to go into play store and check if updates are available. Then delete the app and reinstall it because clicking update just results in a message that it's coming soon.

well mine does lol 😆 Including this latest one. Sure you’ve got “Automatically Update Apps” set to On? (It’s a separate option to “Automatic Updates” which refers to the ATV operating system).

There's something wrong if the updates are taking that long and you've a 300 mbps connection (Nov 18 aside). My Zwifting laptop is connected via WiFi and I only get about 50 Mbps over that. If I start Zwift, the updates are done by the time I've found a towel, put on my shoes and filled a water bottle. Seriously, It's barely noticeable.

Same as above, 30Mbps and nothing takes longer than a couple of minutes - other than new world updates - all I do is if I'm intending to Zwift an I know there's an update on the way (Zwift insider on FB or web for this) is just turn the laptop on in the morning prior.

Lets be honest 2 -3 minutes isn't really an issue is it.

Try Systm then (stupid name, but I really like the content). I fired it up yesterday, it popped up saying there was an update and did I want to restart? I said no, and carried on with my workout. Presumably it'll be installed/finish installing correctly tomorrow when I use it next.

Hmmm, I wonder if there's something wrong with my laptop then, if it's taking me a lot longer than average to install. I'll take a closer look later but it's only a couple of years old and isn't used for anything else except Zwift and occasionally streaming music.

Or get an AppleTV 😀

I did have an Apple TV but found the remote infuriating so took it back to the shop about two days after I bought it. 😠

you get used to it but it's absolutely atrocious for Zwift regardless... mainly down to Zwift tho I guess as it's a straight port of the PC/Mac app rather than optimised for the ATV interface. The newer remotes that come with ATVs now are supposed to be a lot better but last I heard the Zwift app doesn't support them properly 🙄

Last Thursday's update messed me up, coming in the short break between the two Oh Crit races, took ages for my mobile to unzip and verify and missed the second race start... Now need to complete every remaining race in the series (I think) to get ten placings, when best ten are used to calculate final placings.
