Got a ZTE MU5001 portable router after reading many many reviews. Not mega bucks, but not cheap at 300€ either.
Stick the data only sim card into it and the phones and laptop connect to the router, but there's no internet.
Display on the device says it is connected to the 4G network.
Sim card works fine in my dual sim phone. Other devices can connect to my hotspot and they're connected to the internet without any problems.
A little annoying as we can't send the bloody thing back.... 3 days over the 30, days.
This may be a bit obvious but with my ZTE router, I need to do a restart with the sim inserted for everything to work properly.
seems a bit excessive!! could get something well under £100 surely?300€
regardless, I seem to recall when I last set up a 4G modem I had to connect to it via a browser & enter some settings (APN profile?) which are specific to the cell network you're trying to connect to. This isn't something you ever have to do when just putting a SIM into a phone!
Not the same device, but I had to change some of the settings on the router to get mine to work. Worth a google/check of the support pages of the SIM provider.

I'll have a root around online and see if I can find anything.
However, I have tried it with my normal phone sim and it works fine. Guessing it's an issue with the data sim.
A little bit loath to take it to a shop.... the PAYG data sim I picked up in September hasn't cost me anything. Still has the initial 50€ credit and I've not needed to top it up since then.
May take the router to a shop and get them to set it up with a compatible sim card rather than lose the 300gb a month that currently costs me nothing.

I'm not an expert but I can see exactly why the network this SIM connects to is unhappy with a portable router connected to it.
