I still use my ZTE flip phone but can't get updates as it has a very small memory
Is there a workaround?

It's a fifteen year old phone. What updates are you hoping for?
I suspect you already know what the 'workaround' is. You can buy modern non-smart phones if that's your bag, they call them "feature phones" these days.
Random example that looks half-decent.
