This was reported and a thread on here a couple of weeks ago when it happened, sorry... went viral - he's now been sacked, poor bloke.

Far as I know this is the only story that has come out of someone accidentally exposing themselves having a **** thinking they had finished the call?

The incident happened on 15 October during an election simulation involving the New Yorker and WNYC radio.

Terrifyingly we had a video conference yesterday (not Zoom) that glitched and meant the presenter could be seen, but not heard nor contacted. He was effectively out of the chatroom except we could still see his webcam / presentation. The chat web page (which he hadn't seen) told him 'Oops something went wrong. You have left the meeting'.

Before lockdown made zoom an everyday thing for the general public, there used to be a whole sub-culture of special interest zoom rooms, get the room number via dark web forums. I recall colleagues telling me they’d stumble into some of them and get out ASAP as they were quite gross (but legal). I know a few yanks have live streamed rapes on zoom.

Iirc anyone who made a comment of encouragement was going to get a more serious charge but I can’t recall if that came to pass as it was a while back now.

It's funny, a few years ago people started taping over their webcams etc. It seemed like paranoia at the time, but given the sophistication of some cyber attacks now, it's probably not. Lots of 3rd party web cams have LEDs now to show when they're on... but would you trust that if someone was monitoring your webcam, they wouldn't work out how to disable to LED?

Here's a final happy thought for you all, when we had to suddenly move thousands of people to WFH in March, a lot of middle management types had a shit fit, how could they trust their staff to keep working without them marching around behind them, or more honestly, how can you justify middle management in age of online remote working. More than one of them asked to have anonymous access to their staff's PC, including cam and mic to monitor them. I said no immediately, it would raise all sorts of legal and moral questions and we wanted no part... but without looking I'm sure it's possible on devices they own and have remote admin right to.

Hold on a mo - if here were to crank one out in the office / office toilets that's one thing. Cranking one out in his own home when he thought he was alone is entirely different.

Agreed, and also to suggest it's only a man thing is somewhat sexist.

What people get up to on their own, in their own home is not the business of anyone else. It would be a bit different if their work stipulated that they must do nothing but work between 9am and 5pm then that would be a bit different. In the real world of working from home that is not how things work.

For clarification, agree, having a sherman during a meeting and knowingly on web cam is not on.
