You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Apologies if there's a thread already, but teh search bar has completely dissapeared for me now!
I'm multiple hours into this, and it may well be the best game i've ever played!
I love the Zelda series - i think Twighlight proncess was the last game i played..so having picked up a Switch for [cough] the kids [/cough] I find this game so hard to put down!
I love the open plan map, teh gameplay, the ultrahand etc..sooo clever..
I've found myself watching YouTube 'hints and tips' and getting building ideas too.
Anyone else playing this..how far have you got? (though I appreciate it's not a linear gameplay strategy..). I'm on my 3rd 'regional phenomena'..
DrP
I'm just about to start.
Sweet!
I'm not really far enough in to give any spoilers or non-obvious tips, but it's sooo fun!
DrP
Have burnt too many hours playing this, I have done most of the main quest line but don't want to finish so am just doing whatever I feel like and picking fights with lynels. It is an amazing game
And you can make some properly mad machines, that is my next area to play with.
Automatic monster killers coming up
I parked it up just recently with all shrines / lightroots / adventures done - didn't do all side quests.
I'd give it a more mixed review after playing it a lot - I liked it at first for the reasons you say, it's technically brilliant at the level of Link's character, and I love the cel-shading graphics style. But there are some problems with the big picture game design that become more of an issue as you play.
Open world is a hard concept, though - I don't think anyone has perfected it yet.
RE the machines - I've made a simple but SOOO effective (for getting around) 3 wheeler dirtbike thing!!!
I'ma bit obsessed with watching YT videos of crazy builds too!
Laser cannons, death craft..someone made a jet fighter!
DrP
The best I have seen is the attack helicopter. Nuts build
I've been playing since mid August, feel like I'm nearing the end of the main plotline and have done a lot of the side quests. After playing Breath of the Wild before, I went after shrines to build up hearts/stamina and stumbled across a lot of main plot stuff just by exploring (eg getting the master sword early by accident). If you're just getting into it, I'd say to not leave the main missions too late, as I feel like I robbed myself of some of the fun of exploring as part of the quests.
I think it's a real step up from BOTW, especially the combat, being able to fuse weapons makes it so much more enjoyable, whereas I got really frustrated before and basically just avoided fighting wherever possible!
Theres a YT channel called WTF gaming which I like, lots of tips on there without spoiling the game too much.
Enjoy!
Damn, I'm playing through BOTW just now, sounds like I'll be picking this up after.
I'm thinking about getting a Switch "for the kids". I'll put this on the list. For the kids obvz.
I mean, i've become a total geek about this all now! But the above video was REALLY interesting!
DrP
ah see i got it on release day, got stuck very early on (in the snow) and haven't touched it since. Maybe I need to get back into it some more
did you get too cold??
One thing that i've discovered you can do is kinda 'abandon' the current fight/quest, and travel somewhere to pick up better armour/weapons etc, then go back and fight in a more prepared manner!
DrP
I've got to say Tears of the Kingdom hasn't captured me the same way that BOTW did.
I think because you are retreading a lot of the same ground its not got the same sense of exploration, maybe I just need to spend more time with it. I bought it when it came out but I've only put a few hours into it since.
I almost got BOTW to play first, but I got the impression that nothing would be lost going straight into TOTK...
DrP
I'd agree, I played BOTW right before TOTK and I don't think you've lost out by skipping over it, if anything you get all the joy of exploring the map without feeling like you're retreading the same ground. Plus all the sky and underground sections!
Been playing this for ages and I'm still finding more and more creative and devious ways to get the "I'm tired and need to reach my friend" Koroks to their destination...
While attaching them to the top of a very, very tall buggy and driving through a forest/low bridges, fixing them to the underside of boat/log and heading over a waterfall or, possibly to a the wheels of fire breathing bot (think Mad Max: Fury Road comes to Hyrule) all are entertaining, I find that the simplest solution is still the best so its glue 'em to a rocket and fire it in the general direction of the far off smoke signal. That fact that they still thank you afterwards and give you two korok seeds for your trouble makes this doubly rewarding.
Oh, and the rest of the game is awesome too.
Have you seen the tshirts with "hyrule korok space programme" on them?
I’m thinking about getting a Switch “for the kids”. I’ll put this on the list. For the kids obvz.
Honestly, I have no particular love for Nintendo or previous Zeldas, and I don't normally go for this kind of game so I'm in no way a fan, but having watched a lot of BOTW being played it really is outstanding. The game balance and content is perfectly weighted and very well crafted. The right amount of humour, whimsy genuine story and actual gameplay, engaging without being stressful.
I haven't seen TOTK because my family are trying to complete BOTW first.
" I’m still finding more and more creative and devious ways to get the “I’m tired and need to reach my friend” Koroks to their destination…"
There's a whole movement online (tongue in cheek) promoting kindness to koroks....!!!!
