Unfortunately I cracked the screen on my Z3 yesterday, however at the same time it's become completely unresponsive. There's no damage whatsoever to the lcd panel and only a couple of small cracks. It has been playing up of late tjough, too much of a coincidence or is it borked?

If you've cracked the touchscreen how are you expecting it to respond? Does the power button work? What happens if you plug the charger in or plug it into a pc?

Have you tried the restart with power and volume up held down (should vibrate three times)?

Separately since this is a z3c thread, I've broken two backs on mine in the space of a week - my fault but has anyone seen a replacement that isn't glass?

Best thing is to stick a tempered glass protector on it. My z1c is still good as new (had it since Feb '14).

I've seen countless other phones with completely smashed screens but the actual touchscreen still works. This only has 3/4 cracks with as above no damage to the lcd, no bleeding etc.
Regards the off and volume it switches off but doesn't vibrate?

That does sound like the touchscreen is broken then. Should be replaceable or maybe check insurance options.

I have a Z1C and I have dropped it twice. The touchscreen and the LCD are all one unit as far as I know and any cracks to the glass completely kill it.
If you can find the correct connector, you can plug a mouse into the USB port to confirm it still works, but you need a new screen.
As monkeychild says, put a tempered glass protector on it, that seems to have stopped me breaking my screens. The protector has a load of cracks but the screen is fine.

I've tried the glass protector - that was before breaking it the second time...

I used the Sony repair centre (although mine was under warranty) with excellent results. Sent via my networks high street store so I didn't even need to worry about safe postage.

I would normally try and repair myself, but as its a waterproof phone I didn't think it was worth the risk and then subsequently knackering it with water damage.

Re: covers, on ebay there are some bumper cases that come with a clear back cover. Impressed with mine for £3 or so, the only downside is its a fairly tough bumper and it can make the volume/dedicated camera buttons a bit heavy. (some on ebay now seem to be a silicone bumper with clear back which may help)
Its pretty tough though, I tried to shave a bit off the bumper around the headphone jack as bulky jacks don't insert fully, failed miserably with a stanley knife! Don't get the cheap metal bumper with the clasp in one corner, looks good on screen but in the hand its bulky and angular.

I didnt actually drop it! I've got the winter pounds (weight wise) on, that added with newly tumble dried work trousers and thermal leggings took its toll twist wise in the pocket I reckon. 😳

This might be a different issue but the Z1 Compact has a known issue with the screen cracking of it's own accord. When mine broke I assumed I'd done it but couldn't think when. Googled the cost of a replacement screen and these links came up. Contacted Sony and they replaced it without any issue.
