There is only one good thing about winter for me - I can use my turbo without sweating excessively.

Winter's a bad thing, it kills people and costs them money; if it was invented now it would be banned. Like alcohol would be.

The temperature is generally a bit more bearable in winter.

Long rides without sweating, hard fast ground or huge amounts of mud, wrapping up warm and then getting covered.
Hot tea that really means something.

Winter comfort food

Salad, couscous, pasta and stuff is shite,
Cottage Pie, Hot pot and pies aren't. So there!

Oh and you can't beat proper effing cold, moonlit winter night-rides, where you hear the frost crackling under your tyres, as you get back to a pub with an open fire just as you're losing the feeling in your hands and toes 😀

I like winter even more now- it's NOT politically correct and a health and safety nightmare! 😆

Long rides without sweating,

You've not met me......

Rock hard ground, sometimes when it's a crisp morning, clear blue skies temps barely above freezing, i like it better than summer.

Snow. Proper snow, that's dry and light and fluffy and almost warm, not soggy heavy wet cold snow.

Clear blue skies, and that not-quite-too-cold cold you get when wrapped up. Fires, bobble hats and scotch.

I love Sundays in the winter.

Sunday ride getting thoroughly caked in mud, freezing cold and soaking wet and then coming back to a nice warm shower, then roast dinner and a bottle of red in front of the fire.

And snow too. When it gets proper chilly and theres snow on the ground, going for a snow ride or just generally out in the snow is brilliant. I thought I would have stopped being entertained by it by now but nope!

Snowy cold clear days with crisp air, blue skies and sunshine.

Feeling like a munchkin snuggly wrapped in a down jacket, scarf and fleecy hat.

Hot crumpets dripping with melted butter, roast dinners, apple crumbles, and hot mulled wine or cider after a chilly ride 🙂

Ah yes, the inner glow!

Can i add fog? The calmness of it all, the tranquil beauty and the not being able to see more than an arms length in front of your face fun of it all.

I like when it's over, nothing like spring when the trails start bursting into life, before the nettles and brambles crud them up.

Winter? Nothing it's cold dark miserable and lasts too long I hate it, get SAD syndrome and will in all probability kill myself this year I'm so fed up.

Then again maybe I'll buy myself another light.

On my commute i go over a hill which often pops out of the fog in winter. Overlooking the buildings below peeping out of the fog is a lovely sight. Could watch it for hours, but my nuts get cold.

Not that I'm dissing 4x4s, or your driving skills. 😉

Riding in snow- crashing your brains out and not even getting a bruise
Not being too hot all the time on climbs
Sledging
When the ground freezes and all of a sudden you're 10% faster than normal
The sound of snow
Riding through the sunset
Night riding without having to stay up past bedtime
Standing under streetlights and watching snowflakes
Getting in from a cold one and having a hot Frijj. MMMMMMM

And that amazing childlike joy of waking up after it snows and seeing the whole world made new.

I like:

The fact that we have distinct seasons, all with their own characteristics (good and bad)
Crisp, cold morning rides
No flying things
No nettles/ferns etc
Amazing views not available in summer when trees are full of leaves.
Trails are quieter
The feeling you're "earning" your dry/dusty summer rides
Frozen trails rock

Errr, and some other stuff.

The inner laughter I have driving past people in RWD cars in my 4x4.

Some 20+ years ago during a particularly white winter, my Mk11 Escort was the only car to get out of the valley we lived in, on the list of failed attempts were Saabs and 4X4s, was yours one of them?

I can barely afford the pointless debt-fest that is Christmas without my Energy bill doubling.

Leaving for work in the dark, spending all day away from a window and coming home in the dark is depressing

The dogs get covered in crap all the time

That said, I love sliding my bike around in mud so its all good

edit. Riding across some-beacon-or-other at midnight when it is clear and -5 deg is awesome

Nothing. All your snowy pics have of course reminded me that the white stuff is pretty cool but you're all forgetting that it tends (for most of us) to be 2 or 3 days at most, preceded and followed by months of grim awful weather. The variety of weather in this country is amazing just a pity it's not clearly defined and goes with the appropriate seasons.

Looking forward to dry cold days on the road and very cold frozen hardpacked trails

anticipating 6months of wind, rain and darkness.

And that amazing childlike joy of waking up after it snows and seeing the whole world made new.

Hit the nail on the head there.

Leaving for work in the dark, spending all day away from a window and coming home in the dark is depressing

True- i worked in the bikehut at my local Halfords (in the roof), no windows and i missed basically a few months of daylight. Except days off, but then you just tend to stay in bed because youre absolutely Cream Crackered.

Of course winters crap when it's hosing it down with rain, but think of glorious mud:

After moving north I'm quite dissapointed that the summer evening rides don't become night rides in the Winter.

WTF is wrong with you people!

Thankfully the area's busy enough that you can turn up and bump into someone/a group to tag allong with for a blast accross the moor.

A winters calling..

O winter O winter white
The song of snowfall free
A chilling coldness will not abide
deep in frosty liberty

These ridin’ wander days ahead
On trial or road dependant on tread,
When autumn succumbs to winters bled
A yellow brownish hue falls dead.

Cold frames tingle upon your knees,
And saddle creaks between your cheeks,
Squealing discs caked in frozen mud,
Fall fiercely upon ground with thud.

Winters night rides, a starry affair
Takes the rider into it’s dark damp lair
In timeless tunnels of wooded light
Where branches snap out of sight.

Breathing deeply exhaling sudden breath,
Clouds trial behind the riders path,
With ears a cold as burning snow,
And streaming eyes too cold to know.

For what lays ahead on crunchy trail,
Is winters secret yet defiled,
Sudden stops with fingers tight,
Ends within a winters night.

What more have I to say?
For your snow is not yet falling
Though distance winds and forming frosts
Keep winter riders glowing.

Nice- I can imagine that going along with a Guiness advert and some muddy mountain bike suffering in black and white!
