I have come across the yumove young and active supplements online and was wondering if anyone had any experience of them. I have a 2-year-old Cocker spaniel who I have started jogging with (2 - 3 miles a few times a week) and occasionally taking on a bike ride with me. I am concerned about overdoing it with him and damaging his joints in later life. Is this a product that would be beneficial
We use it, well generic copies of it, for our older dog, and did for our previous older dog, it was recommended by a very nurse friend to alleviate niggly age-based arthritis-y aches and pains. Really seemed to make a difference as well
For a young dog, I'm not sure I'd bother though to be honest.
We've had working cockers before, and have a 6 month old now. The exercise you've described is NOTHING for a fit and healthy cocker.
Our last boy (died of a nasal tumour) was running 10K a couple of times a week at 13 years old, up to the week before the cancer took him and had been for 8 years before that.
He actually was on yumove from the age of 9 - good stuff, but no need for young dog.
it was like flicking a switch for my old spaniel - night and day improvement in her movement and general mood. she's passed on but the sub is still going. going to move my lab on to it when i get around to changing for the less 'old age' version. he's 3 ish. i take the 'can't hurt' view but also take fish oil and a few other supplements myself. others views on such things may vary.
Dave started when he was 5, he had started licking his "ankle" hasn't really since trying yumove.
Our 12 year old lab has been on Yumove & Green lipped mussel supplements since being a bit gimpy with arthritis aged 9.
Effect was like night and day. He’s still an absolute loon now with no signs of the bother he previously had.
Thanks for the responses. I've read the reviews and it seems beneficial for older dogs. Maybe not so much for a younger one
The jogging sound pretty innocuous, how long are the bike rides ? We have a 15 month old cockapoo, he gets walked about 8K a day, over 3 walks, plus has some off lead play time on grass with his pals, so I guess he’ll be up at 10k a lot of days. He did a lot less up till he was adult.
My issue is I get all these crappy pseudo-miracle dog suppliments advertised to me on Facecock. ALL THE TIME.
But they never say what the magical ingredient is, so presumably it's snake oil.
The exercise amount you've stated for a cocker is literally nothing, good to be concerned about them but at the age of 2 you're in the magical period, worry more once he gets to possibly 7 onwards but enjoy how he is now as it'll fly by. Also a cocker being a smaller breed doesnt have some of the concern of the larger breeds with regards to pain and doesnt have the prevalence for issues as badly as say the labs.
I used yumove previously with my Rhodesian Ridgeback once she got to about 9 as I started noticing as she walked down a gradient she would swing her hips. After a while and the cost associated with it plus she was then on metacam as well to relieve any pain I started to look into it more. I read some websites about how it was generally a placebo effect from owners and that there was no scientific evidence that it made any difference so I stopped giving it and didn't notice any different. The metacam had the desired relief and although it isn't good long term it's better to relieve any joint pain than worry about old oldddddd age issues.
I used yumove
Good for you, but 'yumove' is not a meat or vegetable or mineral I've ever heard of. Care to enlighten us?
Metcalm, to my knowledge is an anti-inflamatory/pain killer, akin to ibruprofen, it's not food, it's a medication. And can be hard on the digestion/liver/kidneys with long term use.
EDIT - not singling anyone out here, I'm just thinking out loud.
@IHN what was the generic supplement you used?
Canimed Hip and Joint Care Formula
300 tablets for about the same price as 60 Yumove ones, and seen to work just as well.
I wouldn't consider yumove for a young dog.
I do make sure my dogs get oily fish a couple of times a week for joint health. They also get a dollop of golden/turmeric paste with their meals every couple of days.

All, thanks for the links. We have a Springer who is almost 14yrs here. After a tough working life id like to make the most of her.
Thanks again

I suspect IHN has the correct approach - it's like Tescos own brand Multivitamin drink v Berocca. There's no difference. (Except the price)
we use Yumove plus for our 8 year old GSD who was becoming increasingly stiff. Have made a difference, so we intend to carry on with them.
