Any stwers in the Yukon?  I find myself in Dawson city in the frozen north.  A real bucket list thing for me to walk on the frozen yukon river.  I hoping to get a ride on a fat bike next week and am also getting a shot on a dog sled.

I am not going to do daily updates as i am not biking but i thought a few pics might be of interest .  Internet issliw here which makes loading pics tricky

See if you can learn every verse of The cremation of Sam magee while you are there! Drove me mad 20 years ago but even now I can still remember it.

Great place to visit

I used to live in Whitehorse. There is good fat biking there with a lot of groomed trails and rental bikes in either icycle sport or cadence cycles.

And if you like modern craft beer winterlong is possibly the best I’ve ever tasted.

I like the share the trail signs that have snowmobiles on them.

I used to spend ~6 months of the year working in Kluane, if you get the chance to get out that way it is throughly recommended.

they're not trainers! They are bunny boots. They look very odd in person.

TJ, did the Mountie  put on his dress uniform for your benefit?

Epic! Very envious - I've been to Dawson a couple of times but in summer.
Obviously the drive up to Inuvik is a long one - locals do it in a single day, but you may want to break it in 2, stopping at Eagle Plains. Benefit of that is, if the skies are clear, it's a great spot to see the northern lights. Check your tyre pressures, and it's not unheard of to get 2 flat tyres and have to wait for a passing truck/ driver to hail - so be prepared!
Tombstone may be worth a stop, although I'm guessing you won't be hiking far(?) given the weather. And I'm guessing the ferries up the road aren't required as it'll all be frozen over?

Inuvik is fine, very functional; apparently has the cheapest champagne in the region. We didn't make it up to Tuk because the cloud was too low to fly, but keep us posted how you get on!
Of that whole trip from Whitehorse to Inuvik and back, Dawson was my favourite place; but I've heard it's a bit of a ghost town in winter?

There’s a land where the mountains are nameless,
   And the rivers all run God knows where;
There are lives that are erring and aimless,
   And deaths that just hang by a hair;
There are hardships that nobody reckons;
   There are valleys unpeopled and still;
There’s a landoh, it beckons and beckons,
   And I want to go backand I will.

Sister-in-law used to live in Mayo-  a mere 400km north of Whitehorse !

SIL worked in the local store and her husband taught in the local school - it was an all-day drive every 2 weeks to get the shopping.

Sounded spectacular but -30C in winter does take the appeal off that.

Enjoy!

Looks great for X-C sking but I can't see any tracks.

If you do the dog sled ask to do it as a musher rather than sitting in the sled. And if sitting in the sled is the only option you'll need goggles and buffs to protect your face as the dogs kick up a surprising amount of snow when it's powdery.

Canada in Winter is one of the few places I'd be prepared to sit in a plane to get to, though I'd probably go East.

Make the most of it, TJ.

Is that the bar with the sour toe?

Have you been to the bar with the dirt floor?

That view from the Dime is a great one. Is the moosehide slide visible this time of year. It’s a landslide that looks like a moose hide. I’d imagined it was about 40 years old, then saw it in pictures from the gold rush days. It stuck in my mind.

Are the tailings visible by the road on the way into town. Basically a post industrial eyesore, but interesting.

Dring at 50 to 60 mph on snow covered roads makes me twitch.  At these temperatures the packed snow is astonishingly grippy even without studded tyres.

Been helping my pal with a fair bit of snow clearing as well in preparation for the melt which is coming soon as daytime temps are reaching zero now

Hoping to go to a trappers camp this week and camp there.  Brrrrrrrrrr

Next week to drive up north
