When the Kings of Leon were good.

Anything before or since, absolute tripe. A zeitgeist for them, revisiting this evening.👌

1st and 2nd album were awesome, bring back some of the best times of my life

3rd album was still a belter

Anything after sadly turned into mainstream wedding plop

One of the best bands I’ve ever seen live in the early days, just got on stage belting out tune after tune

It’s a ****ing amazing album. I can truly say I was there before they were big. I really don’t get to say that often, other than with JLS.

The worst band I have ever seen live and the only gig I’ve ever walked out of as they were absolutely shite! They looked like surly teenagers who’d been forced to tidy their room and they’d rather have been anywhere else in the world than on stage. Barely going through the motions.

But never mind all that… tell us more about your link to the early days of JLS, Bravissimo

@binners too late to the party….

That was the first date of a tour for their second album at Manchester Apollo. 4 of us went and after a bit I turned round and said ‘is it just me, or are this bunch of strokers absolutely taking the piss?’

The consensus was that they were indeed and we weren’t going to listen to any more of their self-indulgent, half-arsed crap so we went to the pub instead where we wouldn’t have to drink overpriced plastic glasses of warm Carling

@binners

Haha I was there that night at Apollo and had the polar opposite night, they were brilliant I’d seen them twice before that and just as good

Agree on the shite carling mind

I 100% echo oscillatewildly’s 1st post up there. Was going to right the exact same.
Saw them once but it was around the time of sex on fire. One of the best/“least worst” gigs I’ve attended at Sheffield arena. But clearly that’s a low bar.

Few bands have me reaching for the off button quicker than KoL. On paper I should love them but I absolutely detest them. His voice sends me into a rage

The Bucket is a brilliant tune.

Apart from that, they're awful.

Average guitar pop, was ok at the time, but then so were Razorlight 😂
1000s of more interesting bands, before and since.

Totally agree. Brilliant record, everything since has not just been not-as good but actually gash.

Sell outs...

Four kicks what a tune. Early albums are mint

Try dirty honey and leave the KoL with the chubb fire extinguishers dowsing someone's minge

2 x types of fans.. kol fans or sex on fire fans!

Glad to hear others who share this opinion - Youth and Young manhood was awesome (impossible to choose a favorite), and Aha Shake Heartbreak was great too (velvet Snow ftw) - albeit with a couple of filler tracks, but the only song that really hit-the-spot on Because of the Times was "Fans". I guess that's it, their albums just became far too dilute

Saw them live a couple of times too - can't really think of another act that I found more disappointing.

Brings back great teenage memories. Skating all weekend then coming home an watching the episode of The OC I'd VHSed, much to my dad's dismay. Sneaking into bars in town to see one of any number of terrible bands my mates were in. Buying my gf tickets to see KoL at Donny Dome then breaking up, demanding a ticket back and seeing her there with another guy.

Ahhhh, halcyon days. Really loved those first 2 albums, not listened to them, or thought about the finer details of that particular summer, in ages. Music is ace, isn't it.

I was at that Donny Done gig! Back when KoL had big beards, long hair, and wore vests.

@benman - wahey, not with my ex gf I hope?!

I recall it being incredibly hot and it effectively raining inside from the condensation on the roof.

First two albums great, third, half decent but mostly meh, after that garbage.

Saw them live first in Folkestone just before their second album released. Brilliant! A year or two later saw them at V in Stafford with Kasabian on the same night. Both bands in their pomp then, awesome night.

Saw them again a few months ago at the 02 cos the missus loves them. Absolutely turgid! Even the older stuff they played sounded off.
