Me, I'm not sure.
On the one hand, solve the problem in one swoop, then wait for technology to superceed fosil fuels.
On the other hand theres always a side effect.
It might be the only way but its helluva risky
Worse than the alleged capabilities of carbon capture.
I'd support research into it.
As long as it doesn't supersede current research into the correct use of the apostrophe.
Pah.
If you need to absorb sunlight, just make a high altitude sunbed airship and offer free b&b for chunky northern birds. They'd soak up more sun for the price of a few bacardi breezers than owt else.
Can't we just stick some glittery bits into air plane exhaust fumes once they are at cruising height?
It could be interesting trying to clean up the extra stuff before we descend into an ice age if they over do it a bit.

Addressing the initial factors that go into climate modelling may be a better place to start.
We f'k with the climate a bit, then a bit more trying to put it right, so f'k with it a bit more and it gets a bit worse... never ending.
Sort the way we use/ treat the environment... not keep trying to control/ manipulate it in some way.
Its a bit like someone who cant plaster, but gives it a go anyway... they cant put the trowel down.
I am all for providing an engineering solution to problems, but this is a step too far.
😐
what happened to the 'paint your roof white' theory, seems a lot simpler

On similar lines, don't we spend a small fortune removing sulphur from fuels so it doesn't end up in the atmosphere? I know sulphates are blue/green, but what's the logic behind putting them up there? And would an additive to jet fuel have a similar effect?
Introducing triple glazing to historic buildings in Scotland seems to be the key, from what I've read.
🙂
Seem to remember there being a chapter on this in "Super Freakenomics".
It "seems" like a good idea. And the quantities of sulphates involved (if deployed at the right height) is tiny compared to the gases we already pump into the atmosphere.
But are our climate models really accurate enough to predict all the outcomes?
Wouldn't any government that did this lay itself wide open to claims against them for any freak weather event that occured?
I think it was shown that the 'white roof' theory would make bugger all difference as the vast, vast majority of the Earth's surface is 'non-roof'.
Reminds me of one of my favourite Onion articles:

"It may seem dangerous to tinker with nature without knowing the long-term effects," he said. "But without the threat of environmental disaster caused by the short-sighted unbalancing of natural forces, how are we to bring about positive change in the world around us?"
Also the white roof fails because lots of the heat has been absorbed by the atmosphere by the time it hits the roof and a load more is absorbed as it bounces back up.
How about planting more trees? we could all hug them too.
Not wiping out the Amazon and other rainforests might also help... 😛
Wasn't this on The Highlander?
More wasted money on crap reaserch projects that are doomed to fail..
I want my portion of the CERN money back please Coxy.
It could be interesting trying to clean up the extra stuff before we descend into an ice age if they over do it a bit.
there's going to be an ice age in about 10,000 years anyway. It's worthe remembering that anything we do climate related is only mitigation for the mean time until then.
Sounds like the plot of some made for TV disaster movie to me. Knowing our luck if they did try it it would coincide with one of the giant Icelandic, Russian or US volcanoes going off naturally then we'd be royally screwed
It didn't work when they tried it in the Matrix, why do they think it'll work now?
