On the back of the 80s music thread, what are your most numerous albums by artists or groups.
I've sorted mine out* overnight and found the below stat interesting as it does match my favourites by and large, although a couple are somewhat surprising as I'd never considered them a favourite but clearly like the music.
Shows what era I like the best, although the number of mixed and compilation albums I have far outweighs individual artists.
Can't do it by genre as I'm only using a file transfer program to generate this list as a by product of moving stuff around, but without doubt 90s upwards dance music is by far my favourite, with trance and drum and bass being the most popular.
* digitally, long gone are the days of organising squillions of CDs in order.
1- Erasure - 30 albums
2- Yello - 12 albums
3- U2 - 11 albums
4- INXS - 11 albums
5- Pet Shop Boys - 10 albums
6- The Prodigy - 8 albums
7- Armin Van Buuren - 8 albums
8- Meat Loaf - 8 albums (a shock)
9- Def Leopard - 5 albums
10- Depeche Mode - 5 albums
Aphex Twin + Orb + Verve. Probably.
They're not the best band in the world, they're not even the best band in my top five. But they mean the most to me, they were the soundtrack for the best years of my life, they've been ever present since. Apart from a hiatus in the late 90's-early 00's I've seen them at least once every year, and frequently more than once.
I have vinyl, CD's, downloads, Cinerama albums (the hiatus project), DVD's bootlegs from the back of the NME, books, I've Kickstartered projects by them and bandmates, and that reminds me; I need to find the link to crowdfund into the next project

1- Erasure – 30 albums
I have no clue who these people are but to release 30 albums thats mental!
As for most albums I own from a single artist it has to be Jay-z I have them all and hes at the 15 mark these days. Hip hop is pretty much the only genre I listen apart from when my partner puts something on the Sonos.
Probably Nick Cave including The Birthday Party, Bad Seeds and Grinderman
The Pogues or New Order are probably my most listened to over the years.
1: Lee Perry, god knows how many. I have albums by other artists, such as Junior Murvyn and Max Romeo, but they are filed under Lee Perry - I got them for his production more than anything else.
2: James Brown. Lots and lots of compilations that I bought to get a single track back in the days before downloading.
3: Beethoven. Loads, and I've barely even started.
The Damned and the Hoodoo Gurus, constant companions
Toss up between King Crimson and Soft Machine for me.
The top 3 in numbers of albums and EP's per artist in my collection are
1. Cocteau Twins 34
2. Nick Cave 25
3. Unkle 23
Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rolling Stones are my top 2 without actually going through my collection
Clutch - Entire catalogue
Jason Isbell/Jason Isbell and the 400 unit - Entire catalogue
Modest Mouse - Entire catalogue
I have no clue who these people are but to release 30 albums thats mental!
you should look up Lee scratch Perry’s discography and see how many albums he’s released and he’s not slowing down - even just the number he’s put out since he turned 70 is astounding.
im listing just now to what I thought was is new album ... but he’s released 3 more since I bought it
2- Yello – 12 albums
I believe Boris recently it put out around 100 albums worth of material recorded during the time of their first few releases
for me its new model army and fields of the nephilim, particularly when adding all the bootleg vinyl and ltd editon sfuff in
Thanks to the most shitey forum software for logging me out IN THE MIDDLE OF TYPING!
Vinyl is easy, just leaned over and counted :
Bowie - 12 albums. (also 2 cds and 2 digital that aren’t repeats)
CDs, probably:
!!! (chk chk chk) - 8 (+ 1 digital)
or Underworld - 9 albums, shitloads of digital singles eps etc.
No idea how to work out most digital releases by any artist...
The Smiths is probably my top of the pops regarding material. I'd say REM and Pixes would be up there too. And for listening I'd say REM have been a constant since 88 or so, though I'm less familiar with stuff post Automatic.
Bob Marley
Daft punk
over the years probably Six By Seven. was blown away first time i saw them in a small pub in sheffield and then bought everything by them ever since, including all the bootlegs. in more recent times they split, got back together and went in a different more electronic/dreamy direction. wasnt for me but i kept buying the records out of loyalty and to chuck a bit of wedge into their coffers, and only recently have i had to have a bit of a word with myself and let them go.
JS Bach
Rolling Stones
Turns out in digital (not all LPs though, that would take forever to work out), my most popular is Alex Smoke with 35 releases
Followed by $uicideboy$ with 26 (they gave most of their stuff away free)
Aesop Rock 25 (incl collaborations/remixes); Radiohead 20; Doseone 19, Bjork 17
Nice variety 🙂
I think I have every REM CD album from Murmur to Up, '83 to '98, exclusing any compilations. Gradually grabbed the back catologue after buying Out Of Time, but then lost touch with album realeases around 2000.
Without looking at my collection, I've no idea what comes next, not sure I've got more than two albums by any group/soloist eg. Eurythmics Greatist Hits and Annie Lennox Diva.
Based on number of albums....
Joe Bonamassa
Leonard Cohen
AC/DC
Neil Young
Talking Heads
Walter Trout
Not in any order but bands I have the most albums of
Slipknot
Deftones
Depeche Mode
Placebo
Bloc Party
Bush
Bring me the Horizon
Enter Shikari
In CDs almost certainly Metallica but even that's probably only about 10.
I've found with streaming services you kind of lose track of what you have, what you're listening to specifically and what bands actually produced unless you make a special effort.
I searched for Paradise Lost the other day a band I only remember briefly for Shades of God and Draconian Times. Shed loads of stuff they've done.
New Model Army
The Damned
Foo Fighters
I’d like to say Fields Of The Nephilim but tbh they haven’t actually done that many
I have no clue who these people are but to release 30 albums thats mental!
I have 31 Frank Zappa albums and that's not the full output.
JS Bach
Me too but only because someone donated to me the Teldec Complete Bach Edition.
Aimee Mann - 12 albums, plus 3 with ‘Til Tuesday
Arcade Fire -6
Joni Mitchell - 14
Judi Tzuke -12
Kate Bush - 14 (that includes a double and a multi-disc remastered collection of b-sides and rarities)
King Crimson - 10, plus a 3-disc live collection so 13.
Kris Delmhorst - 12
Laura Marling - 8
Led Zeppelin - 8
Leonard Cohen - 5
Elbow - 8
Shawn Colvin - 7
Talk Talk 5, plus a double of b-sides and remixes, so 7 total
Thea Gilmore - 8
Tom Waits - 7
Neil Young - 8
XTC - 5
REM - 10
I’ve found with streaming services you kind of lose track of what you have
You don't ‘have’ anything, you’re just renting digital copies; stop paying your subscription and it just evaporates.
Everything I’ve listed is what I own, plus there are probably hundreds of other artists who I only have two or three albums by, and many others only one. Some, like XTC, I’m building up a back catalogue of, because that’s been woefully neglected over the years.
1. The Fall
2. Radiohead
3. The Smiths
other than that haven't got many multiple CDs from same group
Without actually looking I imagine I have more JR Cash than anything else, maybe The Wonderstuff/Miles Hunt stuff too. Have a lot of Townes Van Zandt as well.
