Reviewers' album of the year lists always seem, to me anyways, a little coloured by hyperbole and group-think infatuation with what-ever-happens-to-be the zeitgeist artist for any particular year (I'm looking at you Cvrches, Drake and Beyonce)...

As a result, the stuff I actually end up listening to most tends to be slightly more off the radar than AOTY lists, but not always.

What new stuff have you listened to and most loved in the last year?

I give you:

[img] [/img]
Jamie XX, In colour

Etherwood, Blue leaves

[img] [/img]
Rüfüs, Bloom

Pretty much middle-of-the road EDM 😆 What would you recommended I seek out on the basis of these three faves?

Moderat III ... ahhh yes 8)

album of the year lists always seem, [s]to me anyways[/s] on STW anyways TO ALWAYS FEATURE OLD STUFf

....and/or really wilfully obscure stuff that you wonder whether people really do actually, truly, enjoy listening to.

I'm hoping this thread deal with this... 😉

Tim Presley's 'The Wink', Oren Ambarchi's 'Hubris' and 'Quixotism', Carl Stone's reissue of 'Electronic Music from the Seventies and Eighties' the track Shing Kee in particular, all fried my brain. Robert Beatty's 'Soundtracks for Takeshi Murata' also featured heavily. My poor wife!

2016 has been and totally astounding year for new 'and new to my ears' music!

Second Love by Emmy the Great. Her worst album by miles but still great in places, it took me a bit of effort to get into it though.

Also, it's from 2008 but I never heard it til this year so it still counts, I've had The Airing of Grievances by Titus Andronicus on pretty much constant play. It's the best Crocketts album in ages.

And Megalomatic's mini-album/massive EP Hunt For The Midnight Sasquatch, which is ridiculously good. Like And So I Watch You From Afar crashing into 3rd album Biffy, sung by Robb Flynn.

You should 🙂

First one is Katie Gately - "Color"
Last is James K - "Pet"

Check em dude! 😀

Ahem, excuse me, but jimw's?! That's obscurity!
"Blowzabella is an English band who play bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy and an array of acoustic ...." oh.

Radiohead's Moon Shaped Pool took me a while to get into, but now really enjoying it.

Slaves (both albums) - Can't wait to see these guys later this month

Sturgill Simpson - A Sailors Guide to Earth - includes a fantastic cover of Nirvana's In Bloom

Rival Sons - Hollow Bones

Another Tom waits here, rain dogs followed closely by closing time

I rather like the new madness album despite never liking them previously and the new Kings of leon is very good as my recent released favourites

Of very late, I have been enjoying:
Bad Bad Not Good IV
Common Black America Again
Late Night Tales Sacha Scene Delete

Also liking and listening to frequently in the car :
Moderat III
Moon Shaped Pool
Metronomy Summer 08 for its unashamedly 6music dad-pop appeal

Not impressed by this year's offerings from DJ Shadow and the Avalanches

Checking what was released in the last two years that I've ripped:

Meg Baird - Dont weigh down the light
Bonnie Prince Billy - Pond Scum (worth it for Death to Everyone alone)
Chastity Belt - Time to go home.
LoneLady - Hinterland
Bob Dylan - that 65-66 thing (awesome, maaaan)
Velvet Underground - Live at the Matrix (like, even more awesomz!)

Although the most played cd of late is Leaves From off the Tree by Meg Baird, Helena Espvall & Sharron Kraus, folking amazing....

Very rarely listen to the radio anymore so don't hear new stuff, tend just to recycle stuff I've not listened to in a while. So recently I've been listen to The Clash London Calling a lot. Also the Sigur Ros album with gobblegook on.
