On the strength of the northern soul thread I've downloaded the Bbc radio Manchester northern soul show.
They had an advert on there for a show by Clint Boon featuring the Chameleons which I've downloaded for tomorrow's walk to work.
The only local Bbc stations I've listened to are Bbc Devon and Surrey , they are crap. What shows have I missed from around your way?

Grew up in Devon and live in Surrey now and yes both are crap (Surrey is mixed in with Sussex so makes it even less relevant).
I listen to Radio London, primarily for Drivetime with Eddie Nestor. Thing about this station though is it's mainly talk. No easy listening fud for the over 60s. Especially during commute times, unlike most other BBC local radio, especially in "old folk" areas like Devon.
But in the main I listen to LBC. Oh, no music again 😉
There's very little on radio music wise I can cope with. Independent channels are just 80s repeats. Radio 1 is shite, Radio 2 is a weird mix of 80s repeats, 90s repeats that are kind of okay and then mostly easy listening for old folk or stuff from the 1930s!, Radio 3 WTF is this obscure... zzzzzzzz, Radio 4 has a few comedy shows which are good and the rest is a snooze fest. Then I'm limited for anything else with just FM in the car (well AM also but Five Live sports bollox and fuzzy signal. Nope). At home it's random Internet radio stuff or Radio London / LBC, but mostly I'm just playing stuff off my NAS collection.
Radio Scotland - Get it on
My favourite show on there is the Rugby League hour on Thursday evenings. Not much use though if you're not into League!..
Becky Want's Tuesday lunchtime show can be funny when Arthur from Boothstown is on form.

Thought I'd start on the Clint Boon tonight. It's an 80s show so he's played Soft Cell,Talk Talk and The Chameleons. So far so good.
Now he's playing little lies by fleetwood Mac. Please be a blip. If Bonnies Tyler is next I shall demand my licence fee back.
There are local BBC radio stations? 😯
The only local station I ever listened to was Radio West, from Bristol. This was back before local independent radio became stodgy generic easy-listening for those who don't care about music, they just want aural wallpaper.
Johnny Walker was on there for a while after he cam back from the States, and they had a late-night DJ called Tookie, who was their music librarian during the day.
She had the most wonderful warm, seductive voice, and she played stuff that just didn't get played on daytime radio.
Actually loaned fear a couple of my vinyl albums by a songwriter called Colin Scot, after she played a song of his, but didn't have the other two albums of his which I had.
6Music is the only station now that plays new music that isn't on any labels, or has only just been released and wouldn't get played anywhere else anyway.
Sadly, the nature of my job means I rarely get to listen during the day anymore. 🙁
I player is your friend.
I only listen to Radio 3.
Jim Hawkins used to have a 4 hour show on Saturday evenings on local BBC radio. Covered Shorpshire, Hereford & Worcester, Stoke, etc. It was a few years ago now, but the format was "taking music for a walk". He'd play a few tracks and then take a listeners request of something related but different from what he'd already played, then just wing it with random but related songs. Just back to back eclectic music.

Farming, food, rural affairs
Ok - I may be biased, it is hosted by my brother 😀
I very occasionally listen to Radio Lancashire if reception is crap for R4 or 6 music. Sometimes they'll talk nature or something else that interests me but then they keep on insisting on playing rubbish music.

I regularly flit between bbc's radio cumbria , 3 counties & London. All amusing when driving.
I miss hearing about loose lambs on radio Cumbria. 🙂
Ian Lee's breakfast show on 3 counties was hilarious at times -sadly, he was sacked for arguing with a homophobe . JVS's consumer show and treasure hunt are so bad they are great. (for different reasons)
Robert Elms' show on London is great, as well as Eddie Nestor's.
Any Milton Jones fans?

Scotland Outdoors is the only local BBC show I listen to now, magazine programme about all kinds of outdoorsy stuff. Even MTB sometimes...
